Does not work with the 9.7 inch ipad!!

I purchased this Smart Keyboard to have a keyboard to work with my 9.7inch iPad. I bought this based on the recommendation from the website AND the salesperson in the Apple Store. When I received this, I found out this keyboard only works with the 9.7in iPad PRO, which Apple DOES NOT sell. Apple only sells the 9.7 inch iPad which is not the same thing. The only way for this keyboard work is if you already own the 9.7in iPad Pro or have purchased it from a Target or Walmart. I used the chat feature for tech support and the online support and it took long conversations with both to have them realize that these two were not compatible. Very disappointed and both will be returned back to Apple.

    Don’t waste money dangerous

I have been getting “accessories not supported” popping out for the pass few months before it have the pop out i having issues with the keyboard.
I can’t type there's nothing come out . I try to remove and put it back it don’t works also.
So i was thinking ok let’s just use it as a cover for my iPad pro.
But few days back i have notice i left my iPad with the keyboard close not charging over night in aircon room it turns very warm in the morning and my battery drop from full 100% to 45% .
Ok maybe is i never cover rightly or so, so the next day i cover it up and press the power button to make sure is in sleep mode and is still the same in the morning.
I worry it will get on fire i take out the keyboard and not using it anymore.
I buy it when it 1st came out in Singapore works well at that time but not now .

    1 year 1 month - Dead

Worked wonderfully for a year. Had used many different products, however now I get a "Accessory not Supported" and non connection unless I hold it at just the right angle. Very frustrated on this one!

    It’s great when it works

This keyboard is great for your iPad Pro when it works. You can not leave the keyboard idle while the keyboard is folded out because if you do it will stop working and you will have to restart your iPad. After a year of use it just completely died it no longer works.

    Apple is falling apart!

Awwwwe mourning the loss of Mr. Jobs, unfortunately since he has been gone so has Apple’s innovation, quality, and customer service!!

This smart keyboard is just another example, $150 paperweights that stop working saying accessory not supported! Apple will say, “Oh it’s a hardware issue, are you under warranty?” Nope, well then pay another $150. Too bad the internet is filled with comments from users experiencing the same problem! “Hello?!?!” Software? Genius Bar?

You are on the verge of losing a lifetime household customer, and from the looks of recent iphone sales I am not the only one!

    It simply doesn't work

Generally I really like the keyboard in terms of the overall design - the key layout is good, getting it setup and put away works well. Unfortunately, the reality is that I simply cannot trust the keyboard to work. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to it. I've experienced this with all of the keybaords - the 12.9", the 10.5" and the 9.7" keyboards. One of the worst products Apple has ever produced.

    Very unhappy with cover quality

Do not waste so much money on this cover. In just about 2 months of normal wear it started coming apart around the edges. In less than a year it looks horrible. Strings are visibly unraveling and my keyboard has large patches where the plastic coating has completely peeled away from the cover. It looks horrible. Just 5 days after having the keyboard a year and the warranty expiring, it now is dysfunctional and causes “this accessory is not supported” to constantly pop up on my screen. I can longer use it. I paid $150 for this keyboard and bought it directly from Apple. This keyboard is not a $150 quality keyboard made to last as long as my iPad Pro, I would not pay over $30 for this keyboard. I take very good care of my iPad Pro and keep it in a protective zipper pouch when it is not in use and when I travel with it. It did not stand up to even light use. Save your money and do not think just because Apple has their name on it means it is the best quality keyboard. It is NOT. I have read many reviews very similar to my own here. I am shopping for a new keyboard now, hating I wasted $150 on such garbage.

I have been wanting a keyboard for two years for my iPad. When I upgraded from the air to the pro, I started shopping around. I am very glad I got this keyboard. It doesn’t feel small or cramped at all. It started working right away. Exactly what I needed to be able to take my school work with me easily. The only thing that I wish this had is a holder for the Apple Pen. Logitech has a space for the pen, but not the brand name keyboard. This is disappointing, Apple.

Don't let the iPad flop onto the keyboard

I was watching youtube on the iPad pro - bumped the iPad and it fell forward onto the keyboard and shattered the screen.
Good functioning keyboard, but absolutely unsafe and not a good design for the thickness of the iPad pro screen glass.

    Not impressed!

I was very disappointed in this keyboard! I love the lightweight design but after 1 year and 3 months I started noting problems like keys not typing letters occasionally and then began not typing out sentences. Very frustrating to be typing and hoping the letters will catch up to the typing. After that, I began to get error messages: "This accessory is not supported by this device" More often than not I get this message when trying to type. It's gotten to the point where I'm always surprised if the keyboard works. If you look on the Official Apple Inc. Site, you'll read many negative reviews about this issue. Apple should be embarrassed to have so many negative comments about one of Apple's products. I think this is likely a software issue as the problems began after an update, but maybe that was simply a coincidence. Anyway, Apple is not standing behind their product, so when the 1 year warranty is up and you're experiencing problems with your smart keyboard, you'll have no luck contacting Apple in hopes of a remedy.

    Was great at first

I was skeptical at first but learned to adjust and fell in love with this keyboard. The month after the warranty is up, the keyboard started to act up and now I have to replace it. I lIve overseas but can buy anything from the US EXCEPT APPLE???????? My local distributor discontinued the keyboard because the 10.5 is now out. FRUSTRATED doesn’t begin to express my feelings at this point. I now have an iPad that I can’t use because I am not a touch screen typist. FIGURE IT OUT APPLE!!!!! SICK AND TIRED OF LOVING YOUR PRODUCTS ONLY TO HAVE THEM WEAR OUT AND BE REPLACED TOO SOON. SWITCHING TO ANOTHER PLATFORM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

    A very good keyboard!

I use my keyboard on my iPad daily for personal and school use. It works perfectly with no problems at all. I’ve had my keyboard for about a year and I would recommend it to anybody looking for a compact keyboard that folds up into a cover for their iPad.

    DONT BUY IT!!!

I bought this keyboard only half a year ago, and for the past three or four months it has stopped working completely! There is no replacement program, costing me $150 for a “fix”. Don’t waste your time or money before Apple issues a fix to this urgent flaw!

I have had this keyboard for at most a year and a half. Beginning a couple months ago I got an intermittent message that the accessory is not compatible. While the keyboard continued to work, the error became more frequent. Eventually, the keyboard was intermittently nonfunctional. Additionally, the error message popped up randomly. For example, in the middle of a game I would have to acknowledge the error before continuing. Now I just disconnect the keyboard. I went to the Apple Store today and they offered to replace it for $129. They told me that it is a hardware problem out of warranty. Under the Bluetooth settings, the keyboard is no longer listed. I tried a reset of the iPad and still no good. Sounds to me like a software issue.

If you look through the Apple support discussions, you will find this is not a unique experience. People have been reporting this issue since the iOS 10 update. For now, I am sticking with this keyboard and dealing with it intermittent nine function. In the meantime, I am looking for a new one. Unless Apple replaces this one, I will not be using an Apple keyboard again. For $150, I would expect this keyboard to last longer than 18 months.

Expensive and unpleasant to use as keyboard or case

A Smart Cover is expensive but good. A Logitech Keys-to-go Bluetooth keyboard is the same size as a 9.7” iPad Pro and has a great typing experience.

The Smart Case is terrible at both. The keys feel awful and are cramped. It makes the iPad bulky. The case puts the iPad at a single angle that doesn’t work for me. The whole thing feels cheap. I’m surprised that Apple sells this.

    Nice buy very buggy

I have had this for about 18 months. When it works, it is fantastic. But when it doesn’t work, it is worse than having nothing. Apple has an exchange program available if you are having issues, even though it beyond the 12 month warranty. The problem is, Apple doesn’t seem to acknowledge it until you force the issue. My new one has been working great for about a month, and now it is starting to act up. The only thing I don’t get is the “Device Not Supported” error that showed up on my first one. I sure wish this was more consistent, but certainly helps prevent my iPad Pro from becoming a laptop replacement.

As many have said, DID NOT LAST!

The product worked well initially, I used it daily during course lectures to type notes, it was very versatile. However, about 7 months after purchase the keyboard became defective all of a sudden. It appears that there is some sort of a connection issue. I attached/detached the keyboard a few times in an attempt to establish a connection, and it appeared to work a few times, but now the keyboard does not seem to respond at all (despite being attached to the iPad).

Only iPad keyboard I have every used but I’m very happy with it

Like the title says I have never used other iPad keyboards before but never wanted to previously because it bulked up the iPad so much. I like how Apple had achieved a decently slim feel when it’s closed. Even if ithe surface is uneven but that helps it feel slim in the hand when carrying the slim side down. I also thought my fingers would feel cramped typing on what looks like a smaller keyboard but they actually feel like they’re spaced almost naturally (I’m a guy BTW so I wonuldn’t say that I have small hands). I like how the keys feel too.
I love the woven fabric idea to because it saved me once when my three year old spilt my coffee over it and all I had to do was wipe i off and I wo as good to go with no damage (the coffee didn’t go near the Smart Connector luckily). That definitely would not have been the case with other keyboards!
This accessory has actually made my iPad Pro my must used device now in place of my MBP which now is really used only for graphic work, I do everything else on this now.
The only improvement to make to bring it to 5 stars would be being backlit.
