    Ruined twi iphone7's

    • Written by Quentin R from Rozet

I bought the smart battery case and am now on my 2nd iPhone 7 that is having the same issues as the first. My phones have both acted up by always trying to shut down while opening apps, the battery goes from 50% to dead in 3 seconds. After the second iPhone I have taken the smart case off and my battery is shot. Phone gets super hot and tries to shut down constantly and just won't hold a charge. The common denominator is the case. Not sure which direction to go bc apple makes you pay the full price for a new phone until you send broken phone back.. This is their product and I'm curious to know if anyone else is having issues. I was always a morphie user and had there been one for the 7 I would own one now. The morphie's battery doesn't kick in until you choose to. I have it think the constant charge from the smart case is what has caused the problems with both phones. :(

This Battery case disrupts the compass

    • Written by Martin F from Corbridge

Don't buy this if you use your phone for navigation. The field set up by the battery affects the compass. It can read up to 180 degrees out.

    Poor product

    • Written by Christine B from Bury

I bought this red case for my son when it was first introduced in HK as I was told by the sales that it was in support of against aids. The case has now lost its flexibility and started breaking round the corners. It is no longer good enough to protect his iPhone 7. It is really the only poor product I have bought from Apple. I was trying to contact Apple to make a complaint but could not get through. If Apple customer service read this review, please get in touch with me.

    Smart battery case rips

    • Written by Katherine B from Fairport

I don’t recommend spending the money on this charging case. The top half of the case is soft rubber and the bottom is a hard shell. When removing your phone it is very easy to tear the case. Apple refuses to cover a rip under the warranty. Very poor design. I won’t purchase this again.

Be Warned Product and Warranty Shocking

    • Written by Derek R from Edinburgh

So I have purchased 5 of these cases now. Two for myself two for my wife and one for my mum.

The case is great its slim, its apple and if gives you extra juice so you charge your phone less.

    HOWEVER!
They do not last long at all. They fall apart and don't stand up well to wear and tear you need to really look after them. My wife and I's first cases lasted 2 years but they had little rubber left on them It all pealed and the cases were full of holes.

In June I bought her a new red case. She looked after it knowing it doesn't wear well. By xmas the corner had split where the rubber joins the internal plastic of the case. Its now hanging off and ripping more. I contacted apple both by online chat and a call and was told "This comes with a limited warranty (the apple accessory 1 year warranty doesn't apply to us) the reason is they feel this is normal wear and tear of the item. It happened when it was 5/6 months old and was well cared for with photos provided. Incredible apple feel a product can fail so quick and not be a manufacturing fault defect.

I also bought myself a nice new black one in October to replace my old one. It has now started showing signs of rubber coming away and the rubber is splitting very slightly half way down the case. It is THREE MONTHS OLD!

So BE WARNED apple do not warrant this unless the battery fails. They DO NOT LAST LONG

I am going to follow this up with my credit card company who I paid for the item with see if I can claim through them. As much as I love the cases and bought one for my mum (did not last a year as well) giving them lots of praise they are not worth the money and apple should really hang their heads in shame with the attitude towards the warranty.

I appreciate there are reviews raving about this case and I can agree with them but I bet if you asked the owners now about the cases they would tell you the same things as above.

I will unfortunately not buy another it is not worth the £99 for how poorly designed and flawed it is.

    DO NOT BUY

    • Written by Pierce H from Caloundra

The rubber started to split and fall apart after 1 month. I'm an officer worker so the case was never exposed to harsh conditions.
Took it to an apple store and had it replaced. Was told that 'this is wear and tear on your behalf but we will replace it this time'.

    Tldr; they fall apart FAST

Ultimately not functional as an every day case.

    • Written by Jordan C from Milpitas

This is a great case. It has a great look and feel, not everyone is a fan of "the hump" but it feels comfortable in the hand. However, with only 2365 mAh battery capacity and no button or functionality to turn this case off it is always constantly charging your iPhone until it runs out of battery, giving you battery when you don't need it and effectively wasting battery as charging it between 0-20% and 80-100% takes more to charge per percent than charging it between 20-80%. This was obviously a product Apple rushed to market which makes no sense considering how long battery cases have been around. Maybe they'll get the third version right for the iPhone 7 successor, but for now I'll have to stick with Mophie or any of the other tens of battery cases that do have an on/off switch.

    Designed by Jonny Ive's intern

    • Written by Matthew B from Arlington

Here's what is nice about this case. It extends the battery life for more than one day. It has built in software that shows the battery level of the case along with the phone on your lock screen and Notification Center.

Now the bad parts. The hole for the headphone jack is so small that it only fits the iPhone headphones. I have tried many others, even extensions and nothing fits in the cramped space. The second design flaw is that the lightning port has an angled metal edge on the receptical. This causes most third party accessories to not make contact with the charging contacts. The cord feels like it's connected but actually isn't.

This has to be one of Apple's worst designs.

    Not Worth Your Money

    • Written by Charlotte W from Sneads Ferry

Although a great product when in working order, the charger on this case completely snapped off within 9 months of purchase. This apparently is not covered under the 1 year limited warranty.

    Eh...

    • Written by Crystal B from Springfield

I thought this was going to be an amazing case when I bought it, but I quickly learned that it's not worth it.
There's no way to turn the case off, so it's constantly charging, unless you lift the case off the charging port.
And this case makes call quality super bad!!! On FaceTime and regular phone calls, I have to lift the phone out of the case in order for anyone to hear me. Otherwise, when the phone is in the case, I have to scream right into the speaker port for anyone on the other line to hear me, which is incredibly frustrating.
The only reason I got the case was because no other charging case has a lightning plug on the case, so it's the only way I can charge my phone and listen to music at the same time since I have the iPhone 7, and having a charging case is basically necessary since a full charge barely lasts 8 hours.

Sheds its outer skin like a snake

    • Written by PAUL H from Seal Beach

Like many other customers, I have experienced the shedding of the outer layer on my red iPhone 7 battery case. The battery charger is great, but if quality is not consistent across the entire product, then the product itself is no better than its flaws. Anything displaying an Apple logo should represent the quality expectations associated with the brand. This case will make you wonder if perhaps, secretly, it is a 3rd party product wearing the logo of a brand it doesn't deserve to wear... while your trust for Apple products also begins to shed. 5 stars for the charging hardware and capabilities... reduced to 2 stars for the overall product quality and durability.

    Nice case but poor quality

    • Written by Ronan M from Kiltimagh

Battery is good, silicone case feels good but is very poor quality. Started peeling and chipping even though it's never been dropped or damaged. Got a replacement from Apple it happened again. Not worth the price.

Does it's purpose, needs more improvement, coatings need fast improvement.

    • Written by James B from broadview heights

I've been using this for a little over a month and overall it's soso. I'm disappointed in the color red, it's not as deep of a red as I thought it would be, already after a month the coating is starting to wear from sliding into and out of my pocket. The case charges extremely fast, and I like that if the case is charging and fully charges the light turns from red to green. With this case I can go a full day using my iPhone, if not the phone never will last the whole day with moderate use.

Really want to like this case

    • Written by Lisa B from Washington

I really wanted to like this case. Yes, it does extend the battery life of my phone. I only use it on days I know I'm not going to be near a charger. I love that this is compatible with all Apple cords, chargers and earbuds.

But I would love it better with an on/off switch. I think the battery depletes itself faster because it doesn't. I use this when traveling on the metro and walking around all day. I listen to music, read books and use the navigation app... the total battery life of the case depletes so much faster than if I just used my phone in low battery mode. (BTW, I tried turning my phone to low battery mode to see if the case battery would last longer....nope).

On the next model, please add a way to turn the battery case on/off. Thank you.

    Meh

    • Written by Emily G from Ottawa

When I first got this case I loved it, since I’ve owned other charging cases, as well as the external ones. I always forget to charge them so when I found out this one used the lightning cable I was sold. It lasted me about 3 months and then made my phone lock button stop working and then the reading on the battery case was clearly off. After taking my phone out of the case to reset my phone, my phone still displayed charging. The battery case would then not charge. I left it a day and plugged just the case in and it suddenly charged. I was happy so put the phone back in the case, only this time it didn’t read that the case was on. I brought the case to Apple to have the Genius Bar look at it and the guy basically told me that they had to order me a replacement one. I went and picked it up and it was quite clearly a refurbished one that smelt strongly of some disinfectant. I’m slightly disappointed in the quality of the case and even more so on the actions of Apple. It would have been nice to be told it would be a refurbished case up front.

Great case, best I’ve had, with only one complaint.

    • Written by Justin W from Prescott Valley

I’ll start by saying I’ve had this case for a little over a year and I will NEVER choose another case. This case is everything you could ever want in an iPhone case, it looks great, offers great protection, and essentially doubles the battery life.
It is made from a very grippy rubber so It doesn’t easily slip in your hand or off the surface that it’s resting on.
The additional battery life is unbelievable, and I haven’t noticed a decay in the phones battery as a result of using the case, as some other brands of “smart cases” are want to do.
The phone protection is deceivingly good, I’ve dropped my phone face down, back down, and on all corners multiple times and the phone has come out without so much as a scratch.
However, the only issue I’ve had is that this case has begun to deteriorate; no doubt after all the falls it has taken. The top corners have begun to fall apart and peel back so every time I put it in or take it out of my pocket the corners get caught on my jeans and peel off more and more. This has also happened on the middle left side of the case as well.

So, all things considered, for $100 I’ve been more than satisfied with the case, it could just stand to last a little longer.

    Best battery case I've had!

    • Written by Benjamin U from Stillwater

This is by far the best battery case I've used yet! I really don't like how there's some battery cases that add a full pound or more, and also add a big bulge to the back. I love the feel of the silicon and felt and the hump on the back - which I thought would be kind of weird - is surprisingly comfortable to hold, I don't find it as awkward as others say! The functionality of the case is amazing for me, I used to get about 7-8 hours on a full charge with my iPhone 7 and now I get about 15-17 hours! The single lightning port at the bottom also makes it feel surprisingly smooth. This is one of the best cases I've gotten yet, worth the money! Although If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to change the battery status symbol to show whether the battery is actually charging or the case is being used.

    Great product, but...

    • Written by Kelly H from Byfield

I have used this case for over a year now and I love almost everything about it. The feel is wonderful and very comfortable. It is still compact enough and I can't say enough about the ability to have a longer runtime with my phone. My only issue is that is does kill the battery over time. My husband was using a Mophie and never turned it off, he recently had to replace his battery because his phone would die within minutes after the case battery was depleted. He brought it to apple and was told this was because he never turned off the Mophie case, and therefor ran down the max number of charges his iPhone was capable of. My phone has started to die shortly after the case is depleted, and I am using the apple case. I believe it lasted much longer than my husbands, but I wish they had worked this out before releasing the product. I am upgrading to the iPhone 7, but I am not sure I am willing to purchase another battery case at this time since they have not fixed this issue.
