    Initial review

    • Written by Evan W from Santa Monica

I just picked up my keyboard. My first impression is it's a less than perfect keyboard. But then again I tried the Microsoft Suface and found that keyboard also lacking.

I've read that a few owners of this found that their keyboard don not not sit 100% flush against the table. Others don't have that problem. Mine does not sit perfectly. I found that it flattens out a bit just after an hour or two of using. So not a big problem.

Typing accurately is less than perfect, but still better than using the onscreen keyboard. I find I make more typos with his keyboard than my laptop. Apple calls it is a "full-sized keyboard" but to me this still is a cramped typing experience compared to my MacBook Prop and my magic Keyboard.

I am not fond of the plastic nylon feeling fabric on the keyboard. I imagine I will change my mind when I eventually spill my $5 latte on the keyboard and realize it is easy to clean. But still, tactile feeling doesn't jive with my fingertips. But perhaps this too I will learn to like.

All in all it is a good but not great. I am guessing it's still better than many iPad keyboards out there. So you should be disappointed.

    Very nice keyboard

I like the physical keyboard but wish that it had a better feeel because this hard denim like material makes me think that within time it may dry rot and ill have to go out and get another. Another thing I wish apple had a rear cover like they have for the iPad Pro 9 in. But I was able to find a back case compatible with the Smart Keyboard at amazon for about $16. Sorry I cant post the link but it’s called a companion cover.

Useful but there are better options out there

The fact that it was designed by Apple means it'll work pretty well and fit is great, BUT the feel of the keys leaves much to be desired. There are other brands out there that will feel a lot better and more like a real keyboard if you're going to type a lot. If you're only typing an email here or there then I'm sure it'll work great for you. Honestly, it is way over priced for what you get.

    Smart Keyboard 10.5 inch Pro

    • Written by Gail S from Tampa

Overall, it is a good product, however, they need to make the companion BACK COVER like they did for the larger iPad Pro! I spent a ton of money on this little baby, and the last thing I want is to see the back get all scratched up and the iPad get damaged if that unfortunate fall should occur. For that reason, I spent another $150 on the leather sleeve. These are the types of things that need to be planned out in advance and available at the time of the sale release. I would also like the keyboard to be more reflective or backlit. I would also like to see external case attachment for the Apple Pencil.

Very surprised but also highly disappointed.

I was unsure if this keyboard would be for me, since I tried the previous Smart Keyboard for the 9.7 iPad Pro and I didn't like it. It felt awkward and I was making way to many mistakes while typing. It really slowed me down. Thankfully, Logitech came out with their Smart Keyboard for 9.7 iPad Pro and saved me. I loved it. Even though it was little on the heavy and bulky side, it worked great, the keys felt amazing and typing on it was a dream. Biggest plus it was backlighting and row of shortcut/function keys. When Apple came out with the new 10.5 iPad Pro, I decided to purchase it and give the Apple Smart Keyboard another try. I was extremely surprised. The keyboard is great, feels fantastic and I can type really fast on it. It blew me away by its performance. However, the two biggest complains that I have are: NO BACKLIGHT & NO SHORTCUT KEYS!!!! These are major drawbacks when it comes to this keyboard. Extremely disappointing. Even though I have been using this new keyboard for only couple of days, I am noticing that I miss these TWO features that are available on the Logitech keyboard. It's a hard transition from Logitech keyboard to Apple Smart Keyboard. I was considering purchasing and trying out the new Logitech keyboard, but after reading some of the reviews I am considering keeping the Apple Smart Keyboard for now, but I will be looking for another keyboard. Hopefully more will be available in few months!!!

    Breaks easily

The return key failed to function within 4 months of my using this product -- it's too expensive to break so easily

    Protection concern

    • Written by Linda G from Cartersville

I guess I was so excited to order my new iPad that I did not look at this close enough. There is no back protection for the iPad.
I hope they plan to add a back that is compatible with the Smart Keyboard case. I have seen others question this on the site.
Cant tell you how it works because my iPad won't arrive until next week.
Its just the protection of the iPad that concerns me. It is quite an investment.
    Thank you
