Buy the US version, Not UK or International!

The shift button and enter button are TINY on the UK and International versions! I assumed the key layouts would be similar, but it's actually a different design to the US version.. I live in Aus but I'm returning my UK version for a US version so I can reach these critical keys.. WEIRD. Check the photos of the different versions carefully before buying!!

Too shallow / hurts my fingers

Bought this as a replacement for my near 7-year old aluminium keyboard that came with my ye olde 2010 MacPro. It still works, just figured i could do with a fresh one.

Old keyboard had two usb sockets - great for a wired keyboard / printer - this hasnt got those, so you loose an extra usb socket or two.
Old keyboard for me is just the right height and key travel - feels nice to type on, this does not feel nice, after a week using it, i keep thinking 'oh god, i have to use that keyboard again' versus not thinking about using the old keyboard.

I think this uses the much publicised 'butterfly' mechanism - it has less key travel to the old keyboard which basically means your fingers can feel like they are typing on concrete.

Its also very low down versus the old keyboard which had more of an angle, accommodating two usb sockets.

I started off wanting a backlit keyboard to replace my old 7 year old apple keyboard. I started with editorseys backlit keyboard which suffered from random ddouble kkey ppresses which i would class as a 'fault' editors keys charged me £5 for postage out to me and didnt refund my return postage of £4, so I was £9 out of pocket with these clowns.

2nd. Logickeyboard astra backlit keyboard - when coming back from sleep for the 2-3 time, the keys did not work - usb hub and backliting worked, so again, had to post back to them in Denmark.

3rd - this 'magic' keyboard which I will return and revert back to my old apple keyboard - i might try and find a new-ish one of ebay maybe as apple doesnt make a keyboard i want anymore.

4th - last hope, arriving today is a £55 Logitech windows backlit keyboard k740 which I hope and pray will work as its a more regular keyboard versus this form over function / anorexia over a cheeseburger mess.

If this is an indication of apples macbook keyboards I wont be buying their laptops again either, such a shame though, apple were never known for their excellent peripherals.

No Backlit on Space Gray Keyboard

That could be a great feature for the future wireless keyboards.

Brilliant Thank you for the Space Grey!!

Since 2013 when I got the black trash can Mac Pro, i have wanted an apple branded black or space grey keyboard for a long time, the last one i had was the original one silver usb version of the Apple keyboard because they didn't have a wireless with the number pad and it still works!! But I am very happy to have finally switched back to apple branded keyboards and especially the space grey wireless apple keyboard love it, it is much improved in typing since the original version. The real reason though I went back was because they have now black and space grey keyboards and mouse's

Very smooth to use with my space grey MacBook pro 15 inch with touchbar and it just works, also very good quality.

Better than I expected. This keyboard is worth the wait!

I purchased my last Apple keyboard 7 years ago. I was debating on waiting for when and if Apple would release the Mac Pro mouse/keyboard/trackpad in space gray. I am very glad I waited for the Apple brand to match my Macbook Pro in space gray. The keyboard looks pretty clean and beautiful on the desk. Combined with the trackpad I have really cleaned up my desk with this setup. I have noticed that some of the F13-F19 keys were giving me trouble setting up shortcuts. I see others complain about it being too expensive... you can see the price right there. There are other cheaper keyboards on the market. I have also seen negative reviews due to the low profile and angle. I have to say that coming from the older 1st gen BT keyboard the angle is different but I honestly prefer it. The keys are perfect. Much better than the built in keyboard on the Macbook Pro. What can I say other than I love this thing. It goes perfect with the 5k LG display and other black accessories. This thing is a must have for anyone that uses their laptop on a stand with or without an external display. Oh yeah, and it came with black Apple lightening cable.

    Too expensive without back-lighting!

Looks nice, but Apple should really consider having consistency with user's experiences. I own a MacBook Pro that includes a back-lit keyboard in Space Gray...then I go to use my iMac with this Space Gray keyboard and wish it was back-lit!!! Big disappointment for me, since I use it in a low light room while editing pictures. I agree with many who have also referred to the angle of the keyboard, although that's more easily solved by just proving up the back edge with some stick-on rubber feet.

Inflated Price for The Apple Brand

I have had this keyboard for 2 weeks. I bring the space gray keyboard home opened the package connected to my Macbook Pro 2017 without any issues. My complaints about this keyboard is not backlit and none of the great innovative features from my Macbook Pro keyboard are on this keyboard. The keyboard works great no adjustment takes getting use to.

My take on this keyboard is if you do not need a new keyboard right now I would wait or seek out cheaper alternatives.

If you are a Apple lover and want everything in our office Apple then this keyboard is for you.

Goes great with Mac Pro 6,1 & LG UltraFine 5k

I had the white versions of the keyboard, track pad & mouse and it has always bothered me because my setup was primarily black. The space gray keyboard (and trackpad and mouse) makes it feel like it's straight up dark side, it's awesome. Especially paired with iMac Pro wallpaper and turning on the Mac OS dark theme.

    Why wasn’t this released sooner!!!???

Space grey is such an awesome colour and I’m very excited to see it on a magic keyboard. What can I say? It looks freakin’ badass! This looks way better than the matte black concept magic keyboards. The colour contrast between the black keys and the space grey body is stunning. And of course, it’s got the same typing experience as that of a regular white magic keyboard. In some ways, the typing experience has doubled. If their was one thing I want next, it would be a space grey magic keyboard without the numeric keypad. You may be paying £10.00 extra, but trust me it’s worth it.

Good, but could be better for the price.

I love the look of my Space Grey Keyboard. It matches better with my desk setup then the original white/silver one. And I can type really fast with it.

However, there's no reason why a $199 CAD keyboard should not have backlighting. At the very least, you should be able to use this keyboard in a dark office. But instead, you'll need a light. My second issue with this keyboard is the Lightning port. It's not good for those who own a MacBook Pro with a LG Ultra Fine Monitor (neither have USB A ports). You'll either have to get a "white" lightning to USB C cable to charge it (because there's no Black USB C to Lighting cables), or charge using one of those iPhone power adapters. It wouldn't be bad if the Keyboard came with a USB A to USB C adapter for those with a MacBook Pro setup (which is probably the market for those buying a stand alone keyboard). Sadly they don't. So if you're getting this for your MacBook Pro, hopefully you have a USB A power adapter.

Another feature I wish this had was a device switch. I also use this keyboard with my iPad Pro, and it's annoying to have to make it forget one device, so I can use it with my MacBook Pro. A device switch would be great, so I can switch it between devices without any extra work.

Last, I wish they offered the smaller one in Space Grey. This one is kinda bigger then I need it to be. And I wish you guys would make a Touch Bar version. I don't care if you gotta make it bigger with more batteries to power it. You need more ergonomic options anyways. Might as well make a big ergonomic one, with force touch and touch bar built in.

Great Keyboard at an inflated price and lacking pro features

Apple makes some of the best looking and most comfortable keyboards. I love the quiet keys. The build quality is excellent as expected. The keys are tighter, shallower and have less travel than the older keyboards. If you haven’t used one of the newer models I recommend you try it out before buying. Even though my work computer is a PC, I still use an Apple keyboard. Like almost everyone else I’ve been waiting for a matching keyboard to the black keyed and space gray MacBook Pro. Apple originally stated that this keyboard would be exclusive to only the iMac Pro. Unfortunately this feels like a money grab for Apple. They must have been feeling left out with these showing up on eBay for hundreds of dollars over the retail value. The space gray version has a twenty dollar premium over the white keyed version which is not unusual for Apple to do for a pro version. But I’d be happier to pay the extra for the matching color and pro features like a backlit keyboard but they didn’t include the backlight. I’d be even happier if they donated the money to a good cause like they do with product red. In the past Apple has unfortunately made all the black keys with different connectors so it’s impossible to swap the keys into a white keyboard (black keys are cheaply available online). I’m happy they’ve finally added another color but you can’t help but feel like a sucker for paying for it. Two stars off: one for the price markup for the color and one for the missing backlight.

    Excellent keyboard

Astonishingly beautiful and exceptionally convenient keyboard. Aluminum in space grey looks and feels amazing. I love its low profile, full-sized arrow and functional keys, and finally the keypad on the bluetooth model.

The only letdown is the price difference with the white keyboard. The same models of MacBooks and iPhones in different colors have the same price. I suppose that there can be a difference in the manufacturing process, but I am sure that Apple already charges a good premium on all the products and could avoid passing it onto the customer. I do not mind the price itself, but the difference does not feel nice.

Fantastic keyboard. Annoying that it's not USB-C.

This review would be 5 stars is the keyboard came with USB-C charging. I have a new MacBook Pro that is USB-C powered and it would be nice if I didn't have to have another type of cable at my desk.

Other than that, the keyboard is amazing. The keys are brilliant to type on. It looks spectacular next to my space grey MacBook.

    It's ok, but

They keyboard needs more of an angle. It's too flat and there is no adjustment. For the price, it should be back-lit. There are cheaper alternatives (non Apple) that are back-lit.

Fantastic keyboard made better by releasing in Space Gray! If you're an Apple user (and one has to assume you are if you're reading this) this is a must have if you own a Space Gray laptop!
