    Awful and NOT Durable

    • Written by Sherry G from Pembroke

We purchased an apple pencil on Sept 6, 2019. The first one sent was lost by UPS apparently. A new one was sent on Sept 23 and finally arrived on Sept. 27. We had it for less than two weeks and one bump and it broke. We took it to the Apple store and were told to buy a new one - no warranty or compensation by Apple. Not worth the money and does not hold up to regular use.

    Scratched my iPad Pro

    • Written by Sandra A from Hesperia

Loved the pencil until I saw the damage it caused my iPad Pro (side where it charges/attaches). Apple refused to exchange the damaged pencil stating it was “cosmetic”. If you buy the pencil I would recommend buying a silicone cover for it to prevent it from scratching the side of your iPad where it attaches (magnetically). I’m extremely disappointed as they refused to replace the pencil, ive ordered the silicone case so it doesn’t continue to wreck my new iPad Pro. I have many Apple products and the first issue I have they weren’t willing to help, extremely disappointed.

Great Tool! Not as bad as people say!

    • Written by Eddie A from Las Vegas

Okay, I’ve had the Apple Pencil for about a month now. I almost didn’t buy it because I read negative reviews about its durability and the magnet. People are clearly careless. You need to learn how to attach the pencil to the iPad. It is easy to use. I love taking notes on it and using it to learn Japanese writing. Don’t lose it. If you attach it right it will not fall. People are too careless and irresponsible, imho.

    Fragmenting the portfolio

    • Written by Peter C from Heath and Reach

This pencil is great! I love the new features and everything. But it's only compatible with the 2018 iPad Pro model and cant be used for the others... while these tablets also not compatible with your previous pencil. Great? (PS the new apple pencil flat surface makes a better grip, hold and overall use feeling. Add another surface at the end of the pencil eraser as default. It would skyrocket UX. Make it compatible with all of your tablets capable to use a pencil. Even if some function only available on the Pro I don't have that stupid feeling pro only good with the 2nd pen)

    Not compelled

    • Written by Jeremy Q from Brixton

There is physical friction between pen and paper that a plastic nib against glass does not currently replicate.
Like the difference you may see with your handwriting between using a nib and a ballpoint, my sketches and writing look better with a pencil on paper.
I don’t use this product as much as I thought I would do. So far I have not found any software so compelling that it overcomes the deficiencies of the device.

    Constantly causes accidental double tap

    • Written by Dat N from Mesa

The main differentiator with this pencil is supposed to be the double tap function, but it is not delivering. It actually causes more frustration when I turn the double tap function on, because it constantly register false double tapping which causes me to accidentally erase or undo my work. Please fix this. Very inconvenient to use and disappointing user experience.

    Love it but scratched glass

    • Written by Victoria B from Weston

I would be leaving a similar review in the iPad Pro 11 page if I could (I can’t find the review page for it). However, either the pencil scratched the ipad’s glass or my fingernail scratched the glass.......regardless of which actually caused the scratch, the glass is THIN AND POOR QUALITY if it can be that easily scratched!!!! I’m so mad. My iPad is always kept in its safe case that closes so no outside forces touch the glass. Ridiculous that each year th products become weaker and weaker.
If it wasn’t for the flimsy glass that I would be giving the pencil a 4 star review. But, as is, you cannot even touch the iPad screen without fearing it will scratch.

Too easy to lose and no way to track

    • Written by Jill H from Toronto

I’m about to buy my 3rd pencil this year because they keep falling off of the iPad magnet. I’m an artist and i love the pencil itself but am so mad that there’s no way to track the thing. At a bare minimum, let me see when it was last connected to my iPad. This would be so helpfull and I’m sure it shouldn’t be hard to implement?

The 1st Pencil was great, the 2nd is even better!

    • Written by Luca Lorenzo B from milano

I upgraded my old 1st gen Pencil when I bought the 3rd gen iPad Pro, and I really am a happy customer.
under iPadOS the lag is actually reduced to zero and it feels 90% like a real pencil. just perfect to sketch with.
the only thing I complain about is that you can’t swipe back to the home screen with it, and still have to use ur finger.

    Ugh. So frustrating

    • Written by Elisa M from Fresno

Love the feel. But that’s it. Falls off the magnet with light touch. Tip unrecognizable and now doesn’t works. Sooo not an apple thing to do. Fix it. Might as well come with extra tips if you’re going to compromise on quality.

People do not understand. Amazing product

    • Written by andrew B from Porter Ranch

Ok so i don’t know if people know that the magnet is suppose to go into the iPad Pro. Not the fridge as I have seen some 1 star reviews say. This is an amazing product. Works way better. Goes so perfectly with my iPad Pro. You should get the iPad Pro that had a magnet inside of the iPad. Not stick it onto your wall or fridge (some walls have magnets in them). It is also has a great build and is very strong. 100/100 would recommend this.

    Do Not Recommend

    • Written by Kumiko N from Honolulu

I got this pencil and it connected fine when I first tried it. Now skip to a couple of days later where I’ve been letting it sit on top of the iPad for a while without touching it. It won’t even connect anymore! It no longer showed on Bluetooth, and was just a terrible experience. And while I got it exchanged, it still wasn’t worth the trip to the Apple store. Getting a stylist on amazon for 1/10 the price would be better than this. First generation was a great experience though, and I was forced to upgrade when my school upgraded the iPad as well. Just do not recommend.

    Wow

    • Written by Carly P from Riverside

I was very skeptical at first regarding the new apple pen. I am still not extremely happy with the magnet and as a result I had lost my pen. I was disheartened however, knew it was my fault. Well, I found my pen and I have to give Apple kudos. My pen was in my backyard, in the rain and wet, for two weeks. When i found it, not only does it work perfectly, it still had a 15% charge. I’m no longer skeptical.

One drop and it was done.

    • Written by Curt C from Cincinnati

I liked it at first, but just seemed to be a skinny stylus. I dropped it once and the tip flattened as a result- causing it to no longer work at all. I’ve only had it for about 10 days now. Wasn’t what I expected.

    Don’t do it.

    • Written by Teresa R from Citra

I would give this 0 stars but it’s not an option. I had the first generation and loved it. I gave it to my daughter when I upgraded my iPad and had to get the second generation pencil as it’s the only option. It doesn’t consistently write. Sometimes it doesn’t write at all or it skips while writing. It’s very frustrating and it’s even more frustrating that I’m out of the return window. I would not waste my money on this if I were you.

    Annoying limitations

    • Written by Elizabeth C from Monticello

On the iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd gen), it doesn’t work on the hidden taskbar (dock) at the bottom of the screen, to swipe up to see all open apps, or the control panel that you swipe down from the upper right side of the screen to access. I’m not sure why these features aren’t compatible with the pencil, but it’s annoying. I was hoping to not have to touch the screen, but this makes it impossible to not touch it since you have to touch to close out multiple apps or switch between them. I haven’t had any issues with the magnet or pairing.

    Magnet is terrible

    • Written by Gregory T from Washington

It falls off incredibly easily, lending to it getting broken or lost. Fell off mine to an irretrievable location, and loss isn't covered by apple care. Huge disappointment.

Premium price, but it’s a downgrade

    • Written by Brian N from Palo Alto

The new apple pencil is absolutely cumbersome if you own other iPads that support Apple Pencil because Apple pencil 2 only can works with the latest iPad Pro ! Plus, for such a premium price, I expected Apple to include at least an additional tip, but guess what, no tip is included despite more expensive than previous generation and almost-the-same performance with the trouble tap feature.
Ok, let’s talk about the issues I’m experiencing with this pencil. Within first week after purchasing it, the pressure sensitivity dropped significantly, and of course it wouldn’t be an issue as i can simply file a warranty claim, which i did. But it took Apple more than a week (around 10 days if i’m not mistaken) to just replace the stupid pencil, thus no work can be done for the ENTIRE week. Secondly, the new Apple Pencil is so fragile, I still remembered when I was testing the pressure sensitivity on my Apple Pencil, i heard a “crack” sound from the internal of it, no sure if something broke or what but the build quality is definitely awful for such a premium accessory. Not to mention you can’t even repair it, find it if misplaced. So just be extra careful if you are a new Apple Pencil user.
