There are two SIM options for connecting your WiFi + Cellular iPad model to a data plan: a physical SIM card or eSIM technology.* (Note: Wi-Fi iPad models cannot connect to cellular networks.)
Physical SIM card: All Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad models have a physical nano-SIM tray that will hold a carrier nano-SIM card (also called 4FF SIM card). Your iPad may have a carrier SIM card already installed if you purchased it from a carrier. If not, you can contact your carrier to obtain an appropriate card for your iPad. Some iPad models also support an Apple SIM card. For more information, go to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203089.
eSIM technology: Newer Wifi + Cellular iPad models include built-in eSIM technology that essentially acts as a digital SIM card. There are a few ways to activate an eSIM on your iPad, including downloading it right on the iPad itself, scanning a QR code, or using an app from a carrier. With eSIM, you can choose cellular data plans from select carriers in the U.S. and in more than 180 countries and regions around the world. For more information on setting up eSIM, go to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203089.

Apple Card Monthly Installments let you pay monthly and interest-free for a new iPhone, iPad, Mac, and eligible accessories with Apple Card.2 You can also add a trade-in to make your payments even lower.* And you’ll get 3% Daily Cash back on your purchase, all up front.
It’s our trade-in and recycling program that’s good for you and the planet. If your current iPad is eligible for trade-in credit, you can offset the purchase price of a new one.* If it’s not eligible for credit, you can recycle it for free.
Just answer a few questions online or in an Apple Store regarding the condition of your iPad. We’ll provide either an estimated trade-in value or a simple way to recycle it.
If you’re trading in online, we’ll calculate your estimated trade-in value during the purchase of your new iPad. Then we’ll send you a trade-in kit (at no cost to you) so you can send us your device. Once we receive your trade-in device, a team will inspect it and verify its condition. If the condition matches what you described, we’ll credit the trade-in value to your purchase. If it doesn’t match, we’ll notify you of the revised value and confirm if you still want to move forward with the trade-in.
If you accept the trade-in estimate in the store, we’ll give you instant credit toward a purchase.
And if you choose to recycle your device, we’ll either handle it in the store or provide a prepaid shipping label so you can send your device to our accredited recycling partner.
That depends on how you pay for your new iPad.
If you use Apple Card Monthly Installments and include a trade-in, your estimated trade-in credit is instantly applied to the purchase price of your new iPad.* Once we receive your trade-in device and confirm that the condition matches what you described, there’s nothing more you need to do.
If you pay in full, your trade-in value is applied as a credit to your original payment method after we receive your old device and confirm that the condition matches what you described.
In either case, if we provide a revised trade-in value based on the condition of your old device, we’ll work with you to confirm that you still want to move forward with the trade-in.
Once we receive your trade-in device, a team inspects it and verifies its condition. If the condition matches what you described, you will receive the estimated value. If it doesn’t match, we’ll notify you of the revised value and confirm if you still want to move forward with the trade-in.
If you’re trading in online, it generally takes 2–3 weeks. But the sooner you send us your device, the sooner we can verify its condition and apply the trade-in credit to your order. If you’re trading in at an Apple Store, you’ll receive either instant credit toward your next purchase or an Apple Gift Card you can use anytime.
