Placing the device inside the house twelve feet away from my Apple TV hub worked fine. But placing the device outside the house twelve feet away, basically adding the exterior wall, doesn't work at all. My plan is to re-purpose the device to monitor inside temperature / humidity and hope a better option for outdoor weather sensing arrives on the market soon.

I am an experienced tech user and tried every variable from new batteries to placement of the device and it just does not work well. Or when it does work, it does not work reliably. I would not buy another product from this company.

I’ve been using it for about a month now, and I am very pleased at how nicely this product is working for me. I use it as one of our HomeKit devices, and it is set up outside our house about 60 feet from our Apple TV base station. It has been working flawlessly. Current temperature and humidity readings are displayed in HomeKit, and the accompanying Elagato Eve app displays a daily/weekly/monthly graphic of temps, humidity, and air temperature. I quite satisfied with this product.

At first I put it on the bottom shelf of a planter on my patio, but the sun hit it directly so I moved it to the top of a window under the patio roof. I stuck it to the window with some heavy-duty velcro and it's held tight since. The window is in the center of the back of my house, which is a single story ranch style house. I use the Eve Weather app to check the readings on my iPad. I've never had a problem connecting to the device from anywhere in the house. The app is great too...it collects 144 readings every day and provides graphs for hour, day, month and year intervals. You can also compare similar intervals (today to yesterday, this month to last month, etc.). Love it!

      Range Is It's Drawback

I have a few Eve products in my house. All look great. All function great. But they all share the same drawback: range. This product is probably the prime examp I have a few Eve products in my house. All look great. All function great. But they all share the same drawback: range. This product is probably the prime example of that. You want to place it in a spot that does not get direct sunlight (unless you want to think that it's 119 degrees out in the middle of spring). However, in my case, the only place in my backyard where I could put one of these and not have it get direct sun is outside it's range to connect with my Apple TV. Elgato supposedly announced a range extender but I've yet to see that released. If they can get that out to the masses, their products would be perfect.
