      Fun Midi controller

The unit itself is very solid and is reminscient of practice drum pads (although it clearly states that you should not use drum sticks on the device.) My only negative feedback is it takes some getting used to the very minimal delay from touch to sound. Overall a great musical addition, I just hope the developers fine tune the firmware for better Bluetooth stabilization.

Good idea but bad execution and so many bugs...

Good idea very bugged. 1- Very stiff, you have to hit very hard to get it to register a touch and sensitivity is impossible to change. 2- Bluetooth connectiv Good idea very bugged. 1- Very stiff, you have to hit very hard to get it to register a touch and sensitivity is impossible to change. 2- Bluetooth connectivity is unstable. 3- Pitch issues: if your finger doesn't land EXACTLY in the centrer of a 'square', the note played will be out of tune. Unlike the iPad interface where the note is at the right pitch as long as your finger lands somehere inside the square. Ideally, the system should always output the closest correct pitch on first touch, then start changing pitch based on further finger moves. 4- Triggering issues : If you're playing 2 adjacent notes, they start retriggering randomly and interfering with each other. Also some notes will randomly cut out even though you're still pressing the lightpad surface. 5- If you have 2 lightpads, you don't have the flexibility to configure them in the modes you want. One will always be the note trigger and the other will always be the loop selector/controller. You cannot have both of them triggering notes for example (to extand your range) or both of them in loop mode. 5- 1x1 mode is simply absent when you connect your block to NOISE. This modes seem to be available only if you're controlling desktop apps. Too bad, I love the concept, but execution is a fail for now. Most of these problems can be corrected with firmware updates I think. And the iPad NOISE app has so many problems on top of all this that need urgent fixing. It is disappointing to find out that the app these blocks are made for is so flawed and bugged, when you have paid almost 200 dollars for a lightpad (or more if you buy the other blocks).

I thought the rubber surface would make for a good drum pad and effects unit. However it's far from that. Their seems to be some disconnect between the rubber and the touch sensitivity that makes it loose tracking of my finger quite often. What did me in was the limited ability to use it beyond the noise app. The noise app is cool, but I have cooler synths that I would like to control via bluetooth. The seaboard rise accomplishes this goal quite well. But the blocks system seems to loose connection on a frequent basis causing me to break my creativity to have to repair my blocks. This needs more time, more development. This product could've been done better. I am an owner of a Roli Seaboard and love it! I have high hopes for this company, I hope version 2 addresses a lot of the build quality issues.

      Roli Lightpad / Loop Block

One week in and this thing is amazing. Learning curve is medium. Downloaded and installed new sound packs and they are great. I am beginning to play this well a One week in and this thing is amazing. Learning curve is medium. Downloaded and installed new sound packs and they are great. I am beginning to play this well and have several projects underway. Unbelievable technology behind this with potential to do whatever you want. Throw it in to a studio setting and use as a sequencer/drum machine/strings etc... really great sounds and can't wait to add the seaboard block!!! Don't listen to the bad reviews if you know how to play and you are semi technical. Hooking them up for the first time takes some practice. Loop block then Lightpad Bluetooth (connect them first). Have fun!!!

      Avoid these

These really are terrible for the price. No GM support so you can only use them properly with the official app which is very shallow to begin with. The touch surfaces are not responsive enough both in terms of pressure and position. Customer support is non existent.
