Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)

  • Overview

The 60 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

      Power adaptors do not last

S Apple needs to rethink the design of the Magsafe power adaptors. I have bought replacement Magsafe Power adaptors in the past because they don't always last. Sometimes 1-2 years but this recent one only lasted 3 months. At $80 per adaptor this is ridiculous. Read online, many consumers have had the same issues.

      Dear Apple

I really, really do. You're making it difficult though. I couldn't blame you when my old, T-style power adapter broke after a couple years. I was even excited when I saw the sleek, new, redesigned L-style. However, that one broke too- but this time, it was after only about two months. I tried not to take it out on you, and figured that maybe I got the one bad one in the batch, or that maybe I had been too rough with it. But here I am, typing away, pausing occasionally to wiggle the cord in order to get it to work again- for a few seconds at least. Yes, thats right, my SECOND L-style magsafe has broken, also after only a couple months. Finally, I'm realizing that it's not me, it's YOU. And you just don't seem to realize that. I called Apple support only to be told that there are "no known issues" with the L-style magsafe adapter. Oh really? Dearest apple, do you ever read the reviews your products receive? Obviously there is a known issue, and its that this product simply doesn't work if you use it for more than a month! I've enjoyed your sleek design and better usability, but honestly, I think I'm leaving you. For a PC.

New and Better than the Old MagSafe

As for the MagSafe itself, it feels differently built (for the better), it doesn't nearly get as hot as the old MagSafe did (incredibly this one stays very cool, even on extended periods of time, although that could be because it's new.) Lastly, the actual connector is pretty innovative, feels much sturdier and less prone to fire/breaking/separation issues. It also wraps around a better/more effective contour. All in all, for $79 compared to $99, and the benefits i've named, it's a much better buy than the previous MagSafe (still overpriced, apple)

      Connection bad from factory

I had this adapter with my first 13". It never worked right. I was always having to jiggle it to get it to turn on, or it would wait for several seconds before I had this adapter with my first 13". It never worked right. I was always having to jiggle it to get it to turn on, or it would wait for several seconds before turning on. Support told me there was no known problems. Really? Then, why with my next computer did they change the head?

Safety hazard - poor strain relief

I don't often write reviews, but in this case I just had to say something. My wife's cable frayed at the connector, shorted out, and actually smoked. This is su I don't often write reviews, but in this case I just had to say something. My wife's cable frayed at the connector, shorted out, and actually smoked. This is such a poorly designed cable it's ridiculous. I make cables for industrial electronics, so I know a little bit about them. Apple has clearly designed this charger to just look pretty. The little bit of tubing at the connector that they apparently think is strain relief hardly does a thing. This is a problem on all my iPhone cables too. Apple, please ditch the strain relief tubing and provide real molded strain reliefs. And replace my defective chargers and cables while you're at it.

The rest of the construction is terrible, the cords don't last and they apparently make the cords not replaceable so we have to throw out the whole thing and buy a new one for $80 each time. Big cost, big waste of time as well as ecological waste, and basically is against everything Apple design ever stood for in the good sense of things. Unfortunately after market versions are worse. Ugh.
