Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)

  • Overview

The 60 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

S Apple needs to rethink the design of the Magsafe power adaptors. I have bought replacement Magsafe Power adaptors in the past because they don't always last. Sometimes 1-2 years but this recent one only lasted 3 months. At $80 per adaptor this is ridiculous. Read online, many consumers have had the same issues.

      Dear Apple

I really, really do. You're making it difficult though. I couldn't blame you when my old, T-style power adapter broke after a couple years. I was even excited when I saw the sleek, new, redesigned L-style. However, that one broke too- but this time, it was after only about two months. I tried not to take it out on you, and figured that maybe I got the one bad one in the batch, or that maybe I had been too rough with it. But here I am, typing away, pausing occasionally to wiggle the cord in order to get it to work again- for a few seconds at least. Yes, thats right, my SECOND L-style magsafe has broken, also after only a couple months. Finally, I'm realizing that it's not me, it's YOU. And you just don't seem to realize that. I called Apple support only to be told that there are "no known issues" with the L-style magsafe adapter. Oh really? Dearest apple, do you ever read the reviews your products receive? Obviously there is a known issue, and its that this product simply doesn't work if you use it for more than a month! I've enjoyed your sleek design and better usability, but honestly, I think I'm leaving you. For a PC.

New and Better than the Old MagSafe

As for the MagSafe itself, it feels differently built (for the better), it doesn't nearly get as hot as the old MagSafe did (incredibly this one stays very cool, even on extended periods of time, although that could be because it's new.) Lastly, the actual connector is pretty innovative, feels much sturdier and less prone to fire/breaking/separation issues. It also wraps around a better/more effective contour. All in all, for $79 compared to $99, and the benefits i've named, it's a much better buy than the previous MagSafe (still overpriced, apple)

I attributed it to normal wear & tear and went to Apple for a replacement. I was mortified that a replacement adapter cost $80! However, I wanted an authentic Apple product for peace of mind. Needless to say, like many others I was disappointed when the new cable frayed at the exact same point after just 4 months. My MacBook was used exclusively at home and I believe the fraying came from the fact that the L connection can cause a slight bend in the cable. Although the wires were exposed I covered them with electrical tape because it had cost so much. Eventually it died and I went for a sketchy third party adapter. My third party adapter just failed after 15 months, so I came here with the intention of buying an Apple product that would 'last'. But after reading all these reviews again, I can't in good conscience pay $80 for an inferior product that is known to be low-quality and dangerous. I'm just going to retire the MacBook and switch to PC. What an underhanded way to treat customers who've paid a premium for a 'well-designed' product. Never again...

Why do your adapters lack quality?

I get that you need to make money on accessories but if you make me keep buying adapters once a year its going to affect the rating you get! Without a rhyme or I get that you need to make money on accessories but if you make me keep buying adapters once a year its going to affect the rating you get! Without a rhyme or reason your adapter gave up on me. I plugged it in, checked to see if the wire was damaged or if the dog chewed it - nope nothing. It just wont charge my laptop. 2k ratings of a 1 star should make you focus on making better accessories.
