Apple 60W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (MacBook Pro with 13-inch Retina display)

  • Overview

The 60W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with 13-inch Retina display.

rubber on the cord rips open

I've had this macbook charger for almost 2.5 years and the rubber on the cord started ripping open in just one year. It's truly disappointing as my old magsafe I've had this macbook charger for almost 2.5 years and the rubber on the cord started ripping open in just one year. It's truly disappointing as my old magsafe charger from 2010 is still functional and hasn't ripped open. The quality of the charger declined so far where your older models are outliving the newer ones by almost 5 years is completely outrageous. I've taped up the opening with electrical tape since it's expensive to replace. Obviously these things are made to fall apart so people will have to keep buying it over and over. It's these little petty things that keeps me from wanting to support apple products other than the macbook pro.

My MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display (Late 2013) came with this Magsafe 2 power adaptor. Not long after use, it started yellowing, which was no big deal. Then it started fraying at the end that connects to my MacBook, as well as throughout the cable. It is extremely unreliable, and I have to keep checking to see if it is still charging! If a replacement power adaptor cost around $30-$50, it would not be as big of a deal. But, $80! What the heck, Apple! I spend $2000 on a laptop, and then $80 for each power adaptor??

Very obviously deliberate low build quality to keep you buying this trash. In the first few months of use, grommet near where the Mac power cable leaves the charger body started splitting open, then within the year it completely severed, so onto my second charger. This time, the same cable broke down mid-length, so had to snap it, repair and insulate. I'd have used crimp connectors, but it would make the cable impossible to wind, so the repair kept severing. Finally, it gave up the ghost completely, and went up with a bang and smoke from inside the charger (literally) - I have it in pieces on my test bench to do forensics on and trumpet the undoubtedly nasty results and root cause analysis. I have to now go and purchase yet another one, so cost of ownership in chargers alone over two years is the best part of £200. Bah Humbug Apple!! what a con and fraud!!. Too bad there's no ZERO stars rating.

We own 4 macbooks... 15" 2015 MacBook Pro Retina, 13" 2015 MacBook Pro Retina, 13" 2013 MacBook Air and my old 2011 15" MacBook Pro. All still use the original magsafe chargers that came with them at purchase... All work perfectly with zero issues.I have never experienced fraying, dry-rotting, or any mechanical or electrical issues. Clearly the majority of users are ABusers.

I mean - completely torn where there are large sections of the wires exposed. I have it wrapped in electrical tape but it looks terrible and god only knows when it will completely go out. I'm not paying $80 for a replacement of the same thing - so until Apple changes to a better quality charger, I will buy third party replacements.
