    Ultrafast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Extreme gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.1 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-design

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Extreme now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-setup

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Extreme and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-share

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Extreme can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos, and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Extreme. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Extreme features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

I thought I was having internet connection issues with my cable provider but turns out it is the airPort Extreme. Too bad, I like apple compatibility and simplicity but the reliability for this product is not there. I do not recommend this.

Apple will not replace even though the device is four months out of warranty. I am very disappointed especially considering the high price of these units. My advice to owners of Airport Extremes that are still in warranty: return the Airport Extreme as soon as you hear a fan noise -- I waited too long.

We've had full coverage (upstairs, downstairs, and basement) without a speed issue since.Only time they haven't worked flawlessly is because I didn't notice that they needed a firmware update. And even then they were working fine, just not great. Easy to set up, configure, and control ... REALLY easy. Wouldn't get anything else.

      Lucky Maybe

I’ve had my router since they came out, maybe 4 or 5 years ago? Either way, mine’s been rock solid since then. Not sure if mine is a fluke, and all the other pe I’ve had my router since they came out, maybe 4 or 5 years ago? Either way, mine’s been rock solid since then. Not sure if mine is a fluke, and all the other people with bad experiences are the norm, or if they’re mistakenly believing the router is the problem. I don’t know. I will say I have always gotten my full internet speed from my provider on 5ghz, on 2.4ghz I hit the maximum. 2.4 is congested around me, so I actually have better luck with 5, and so use that for all computers, phones, and tablets. Only older devices that do not support 5ghz are on my 2.4 band. The airport app on the iPhone makes router setup and maintenance absolutely cake. It’s honestly my preferred method of router setup I’ve ever used. It’s not overly technical or complex at all, it’s simple and to the point. Get in, make your changes, close it out. Boom. If you like to tweak your router to death, why are you even looking at an Apple product. This is plug and play at its finest.

Only router that has ever failed me

I've owned a lot of wireless routers, upgrading with technology. The airport extreme is the only wireless router I've ever owned that failed in service. Coinc I've owned a lot of wireless routers, upgrading with technology. The airport extreme is the only wireless router I've ever owned that failed in service. Coincidentally, it is the most expensive wireless router I ever purchased. It failed in steps, first losing connection intermittently, eventually the amber/green light failed to come on.
