  • Overview

The USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter lets you connect your USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) enabled Mac to an HDMI display, while also connecting a standard USB device and a USB-C charging cable.

This adapter allows you to mirror your Mac display to your HDMI-enabled TV or display in up to 1080p at 60Hz or UHD (3840 by 2160) at 30Hz. It also outputs video content like movies and captured video. Simply connect the adapter to a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on your Mac and then to your TV or projector via an HDMI cable (sold separately).

Use the standard USB port to connect devices such as your flash drive or camera or a USB cable for syncing and charging your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. You can also connect a charging cable to the USB-C port to charge your Mac.

Note: The Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter is not compatible with the G-Tech G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Hard Drive (Apple part number HF4F2VC/A).

      Expensive Piece of Junk

This is the access If you'd like to spend 80 bucks on an accessory that will cause your external monitor to blink on and off all day long... look no further!!! This is the accessory you've been dreaming of. I've tried different monitors. I've tried different HDMI cables. Nothing seems to help. This thing is incredibly frustrating to use. If you do decide to call support, expect to be on the phone for an hour only to be told "try plugging it into another port" on your single port usb-c macbook...

      WARNING - Bad Hardware

Apple even lists a few drives (including their own SuperDrive, pre 2011) than don't work with this adaptor, but there are more that don't work - both for storage OR Time Machine (!). This is really bizarre since the other USB-C to USB-A adaptor WILL work, but since this adaptor doesn't supply power to your MacBook, it's not a long term solution. In the instances where the Multiport adaptor DOES work with an external hard drive, it can experience drastically reduced speeds and randomly unmount the drive. The straight USB adaptor, with the same drive, does not show these issues. I can't believe Apple put this on the market without 1) more rigorous testing and 2) with this serious an issue. Having an external hard drive work with your laptop is a pretty important requirement. Terrible, terrible piece of equipment. I was an Apple employee and have worked with Macs for decades. This issue was diagnosed with a genius at an Apple Store after we went through several Multiport and regular USB adaptors, and then followed up with additional testing at home. Apple should be ashamed.

Unfortunately the only resolution that i can get 60Hz refresh rate at is the very low 1280x720 and it has some disturbing noisy lines here and there. With the previous macbook pro i could get better hdmi connectivity out of the box and when using the mini display port i could go up to 4k @ 60Hz. that's 70$ wasted

      +1 on the HDMI issues

I own almost every device in the Apple ecosystem from the shuffle to a 12-core Mac Pro (and this new "magical" POS 15" MBP) and Apple if there's one suggestion I'd make is get your **** together... I'm sure it's fine for Chinese fashionistas and Kardashians that want to show how much they can waste on gadgets, but some of us want solid gear that "Just works" (is anyone left at Apple that remembers those days?). Oh and as the richest company on Earth when you finally sort this out you should have the decency to replace these POS units you inflicted on us at a outrageous price

DON'T BUY THIS OR THE MACBOOK PRO IF YOU NEED TO USE AN EXTERNAL MONITOR

I'm extremely disappointed in and angry with Apple -- they advertise their new MacBook Pros as being about to connect with an external monitor with this Adapter I'm extremely disappointed in and angry with Apple -- they advertise their new MacBook Pros as being about to connect with an external monitor with this Adapter, yet this adapter only worked for me for three months before I could no longer use it. Now, I get this message: "USB Accesssories Disabled. Unplug the accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices." I get this message even when nothing is else plugged in -- and since there's only room for one other device (seriously, Apple? You couldn't have made a third port?) -- it's clear that the issue is with this USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. After less than a minute, the body of this accessory is hot to the touch.
