Sure, it just holds the phone upright but now I can use my iPhone as a bedside clock and that's really the only reason I purchased it. If you're looking for something more sexy and perhaps more useful then look at the non-Apple offerings. Either way, the goal may end up being the same and that is to simply hold the phone upright.

      Day 1 five stars...

I am a huge dock fan with Apple but also don't pull punches with Apple. They are failing left and right with many issues. However, I bought two of these since I am a huge dock fan with Apple but also don't pull punches with Apple. They are failing left and right with many issues. However, I bought two of these since I just noticed that they are available, finally! I was skeptical of the design when I first looked at it here but realized after reading that they will fit the iPhone with an APPLE case, I realized the reason for the "suspended in air" attachment. Anyone with a lick of common sense can see that this is where the case will be the weakest, if at all. After reading the reviews here and seeing that the docks failed after one day, I'm weary of my new purchase, at over $100.00 for just two of these. But mine is fine and enjoyable so far. Hooked up one next to my bed. The other is here next to my iMac. I love the weight. They are heavy for their size which is nice. I don't know if you can make them heavier unless you use depleted uranium! So, as long as these don't fail, the color is nice. Weight is better than the previous white ones. Function works for the moment. I have the Apple leather case which "snaps" onto the back and it fits as designed by Apple. I hope this suspended in the air method does not make the lightening connection fail like some reviewers have stated in their posts. For now, I'm very happy with them.

I switch cases often so it won't bother me too much but I wish it was made to work with slightly thicker cases.

Dock works well and looks nice, but it does NOT support Quick Charge

I ordered this dock, along with the 29w charger and USB-C to Lightning cable in order to take advantage of the iPhone 8/8 Plus quick charge feature. The 29w I ordered this dock, along with the 29w charger and USB-C to Lightning cable in order to take advantage of the iPhone 8/8 Plus quick charge feature. The 29w charger and USB-C/Lightning cable did indeed charge the iPhone 8/8 Plus faster than the 5W, and in fact charged it much faster than the 12W charger too. BUT, as soon as I added the dock, things changed. The dock supports 5V/2.5A -- so, a maximum output of 12.5 watts. This is substantially less than the 18 watts the iPhone can draw from the 29w charger when it's doing a quick charge. But, I wanted to make sure I wasn't wrong -- I pulled out my kill a watt and plugged the 29w adapter in and measured the wattage used. Without the dock, it used 18 watts or so to charge. Add the dock inline? Wattage drops to around 8 watts. So, the dock is great, and looks very nice. If you don't care about quick charge, go ahead and buy it. Or, if you're using any phone other than the 8/8 Plus/X, it really won't matter at all since the other phones will not draw anything more than the dock can provide. However, if you ARE looking for a quick charge solution, the only option I've found so far is the Apple 29w charger/USB-C/Lightning cable and the Twelve South Hirise 2 Deluxe dock. The dock allows you to use the USB-C lightning cable, and preserves the quick charge ability. Hopefully Apple updates these docks to allow for quick charge, but, until they do, just know that it will NOT work.

Good Idea, just not completely thought out

The idea of the dock is great, but it doesn't work with many cases that apple sells in-store. I have to always take my phone out of the case to use the dock. I like that it is easier to see notifications. The audio dock is great if you hook it up to your computer or an amplified speaker so you can listen to music while working. Not designed to watch videos in the correct format.
