      Shattered remote

My remote dropped on the floor and shattered, and is so small I have to be careful with it around my baby. Fix the remote so it doesn't shatter when dropped an My remote dropped on the floor and shattered, and is so small I have to be careful with it around my baby. Fix the remote so it doesn't shatter when dropped and also so it isn't so small that it gets lost. Also make the replacement cost reasonable, the only people buying replacement remotes are people who have broken their remotes already. So maybe don't try and make a large profit on the replacement remotes.

It's really lightweight and feels good. I've never had amy problems with it not connecting/getting disconnected. I've drop it from roughly 3-4 ft. many times and it has yet to shatter (p.s. it has no case). If it wasn't so small and easy to lose, I would give it 5 stars (It's not 3 stars because they brought the price down from $79.00 to $59.00, so I gave it 1 more star).

Tries to be a touchpad for Apple TV, fails hard

Depends on the temperature of your thumb, placement, battery charge, if oils are present, humidity, moisture, magnetic fields???... Why can't it be consistent like the touchpad on the MBP, or of a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad? And, $60??? I'm glad I can program any other remote to replicate it's function for free, or revert to the older remotes on the TV device, but this Siri Remote? It's total hot garbage. I tried, I really tried to love it. I like trackpads, I really do. This just doesn't even come close. I'd gladly pay apple $60 for trackpad like functionality, the hubris here is enormous. Fire everyone involved with this product...

One step forward.... Two steps back.

Otherwise, it is a complete departure from the concept that made Apple TV great. Control interfaces should be simple, straightforward and reliable. This track pad and it's swiping/clicking combination is the biggest fail yet encountered on an Apple product. It requires extreme caution and practice to avoid unintentional commands. I am very careful and particular about these things and still find myself exclaiming "I hate this remote" every time a desired action is derailed into a menu that requires careful and complicated swiping to get out of. Here is a prime example; one of the most common commands that I need is to toggle subtitles on and off. The old remote could do this with a single long press on an easy to find button. The new remote requires exact swiping and navigation on two planes, the sequence of which will differ depending on which of the 3 submenus was last used, followed by more swiping and a click, which creates many opportunities for error. Imagine which of these is easiest to explain to your 74 year old mother over the phone. "By the way mom, you have to make sure your hands are completely dry, so don't touch your water glass" If the goal is a positive user experience, the design team for the next version should be given these instructions: Add Siri to the original remote, plus a locator chip/tone to make it easy to find it when misplaced.

      Worked until it didn't...

I have had my Apple TV for almost 2 years. Never had any problems, worked flawlessly as it should, until a few weeks ago. My Apple TV remote started acting up. I have had my Apple TV for almost 2 years. Never had any problems, worked flawlessly as it should, until a few weeks ago. My Apple TV remote started acting up. It seemed like it would disconnect and then reconnect erratically. I tried every suggestion from the online forum, restarted, and even reset my Apple TV, but it didn't seem to fix the issue. After charging the remote overnight it seems now it only controls the volume of my TV and nothing else. Every once in awhile it tries to reconnect, but doesn't. In the end, after speaking to Apple over the phone, the only option it seems I have left is to purchase a new remote for $60. I am now weighing the option between purchasing a new remote or just continuing to use my iPhone remote app. I could understand if the remote started to act up 5+ years after purchase, but two years seems like a short shelf life. When you buy an actual TV, the remote is the last thing one has to worry about and they usually outlast the TV itself. Disappointed in the product and the limited options I am left with. Would have rated this product 1 star, however I took into account that the remote did work until it didn't...
