Proper smoke and CO detection

It’s generally said (by fire inspectors) that smoke detection should be from a high location and CO detection is from a low location (accounting for different densities of these hazardous substances). How well does does this alarm sense for both toxins as compared with a separate smoked detector on the ceiling and CO detector near the floor?
