If the ports of the adapter fit your macbook air, it means it is designed to be compatible with the air.

So answer is yes if the port fits. 85W just means that it has larger capability of supplying larger current with the same voltage when it is necessary. So when you plug 85 W power adapter into your air, it will give just enough current to the Macbook Air. Since the voltage is kept the same, it won't cause any problem.

  • I am using a 85W megasafe adapter on my 13" Macbook Pro (which came with 60w megasafe adapter) and on my Macbook air 13" with no issues.
