If i use airport extreme with my router/modem (which already has wireless) can i get wireless from both the airport and the router/modem?

I need something like the Airport because My router/modem is far from my bedroom, and only one ethernet cable extends to my room. i have to unplug the cable to switch between my xbox and my pc. also, the wireless has bad connection from my room. if i use the airport extreme, can i get 2 wireless signals (one from the extreme, one from the modem/router) or will only one work?

There will be only one signal, which originates from the modem, but with the second router you can create a second wireless network for yourself. Of course, the AirPort Extreme, all by its lonesome, can create two completely separate networks for you.

To avoid conflict between the old wireless network and the new one, be sure to use channels at least five digits separate. So, if the channel now used is 5, even though it's a weak signal, be sure the new one is 11 or higher. This shouldn't be a problem with the Extreme, as it will probably choose to use a much higher number channel than 11 for its N-network.

If you cable the extreme to your room, there really wouldn't be any need to setup more than just the main network, unless you NEED a guest network. In that case, see if you can setup two N-networks, 5GHz and 2.4GHz.
