What does it mean to have a locked iPhone?

    So when you buy a phone from a carrier the phone is set up to work with that specific carrier so it is locked to that cellular network. If you fully pay it off though the retail value all at once or in device payments the carrier is required to unlock the phone from the carrier for you once payment is complete per request.

  • It means the phone can be used on multiple carriers, not just one specific one.. Like the Verizon UNLOCKED I PHONE 7, you could change your service provider to ATT & it will work just fine. You are not stuck w/ Verizon since the phone is sold unlocked by APPLE
