No contract means that you obtain cellphone service from the cellphone company on a month to month basis & pay full price for the phone instead of purchasing the phone at a cellphone company at a discount price & with a 2 year contract. Unlocked means you can obtain cellphone service from any cellphone company that offers your phone to its customers to purchase.
