compare 15" MacBook Pro vs 13" MacBook Air/Pro
My 2009 15" MacBook Pro (out-of-warranty) lost it's logic board recently. I believe it's backed up to Time Machine and I must choose which machine to replace it with asap. Money is a concern. Taking a look at the MBP & the MBA.
I loved/needed the MBP 15" screen, it was easier on my eyes. I had a 13" MacBook before the 15" and found I really enjoyed the 15"s extra space. If MBA was 15" I'd have a better comparison.
Here's what I do/did with the MBP:
Prepare and edit Word & other types of documents
Review and write email (using Google and Mail app - too often simultaneously)
Prepare, view and re-purpose documents with Adobe Acrobat Pro
Run VMWare's Fusion to run windows 7 so I can use:
-a windows-only database product (CaseMap 10, recommended sys reqmts:
Windows 7 Professional
3 GHz Pentium or equivalent or better 32-bit(x86) or 64-bit(x64) processor
4 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
10 GB or more of available disk space
1024 x 768 or higher-resolution monitor with 256 colors)
-Acrobat Pro for windows,
-Word for Windows
BusyCal in conjunction with GCal
Use of web browsers to review and enter data into databases, a notorious multi-tab user
Infrequent movie viewing, and not while doing other work, thankfully..
I filled up close to 180gb of a 250gb standard hard drive. (A little bit of a storage freak/packrat with regard to documents and music)
Not savvy enough yet for photo editing/photoshop, etc.
The hardest thing to run well was VMWare Fusion with those windows apps while other stuff was open. The new MBP configs really max out the RAM (16gb) & offer 500gb flash drives.
