Is macbook pro 13 inch retina display good enough for video editing?

I'm planning to buy macbook pro 13 inch retina display. But I'm not sure if it's good enough for video editing since it's intel core i5. I will use iMovie to edit my videos. Is it better to get macbook pro non retina display that has intel core i7? Which one will run faster?

However, I will not edit videos all day. Probably, once a week. Is it still good enough? Thanks.

Yes, the MacBook Pro 13" with Retina Display is good for video editing. I actually run Final Cut Pro X and Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve on a late 2013 model. I transcode/edit RAW video to ProRes HQ video and the MBP trucks along like a champ (for ProRes anyway). If things get a little cramped on your display, do not forget that you have HDMI-out, AirPlay display onto an Apple TV, or pretty much anything out of ThunderBolt. You will not regret it... plus, you can't beat how portable it is.

  • If I'm not mistaken the pro retina has not only a better screen but also a faster Drive and more RAM. So i think if your willing to pay more the retina macbook pro will give you better performance. However I feel that the non-retina will do the job fine if all your using is iMovie.
