Is the macbook air good for my needs?
Right now I'm in the process of trying to figure out what macbook to get, and while I'm really leaning towards the Air, I am not entirely convinced.
Basically, I'm going to be traveling a lot for the next few years, which is why the lightness of the air appeals to me. I'm pretty much planning on using it for writing documents, storing pictures, watching movies, skyping people, browsing the internet, and storing my iTunes library on. Is the air good for that, and will it last a good amount of time? I've had a regular macbook since early 2008, and while it's given me no problems up til now, it's getting old and slow, and this is after 4 years of heavy use in university. I don't think I'll be using this mac as much as I did in uni, but I would like to have something that's pretty solid and will last awhile. So yeah, is the air my best bet?

The MacBook air seems like it would be a pretty good choice for you. My Air is able to get about six hours worth of battery life. The only downside to using the air, is the smaller hard drive inside of it. Think about how many movies and whatnot you want to bring with you, and if the Air is enough to store all of it.

The only possible issue I can see would be the fact that it doesn't have a built-in optical drive (CD/DVD reader/writer). You can buy one that plugs into the MacBook Air and works fine from Apple, but that will be one extra item to bring along on your travels. But nothing you mentioned sounds like it will be too much for a MacBook Air.
