MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with Retina display?

I am going to be a second year college student who is currently undecided about a major. I've done some architecture but will be taking some engineering and business classes this year so I'm not entirely sure what I'll be using my computer for. Some things include:

-writing papers
-listening to music
-browsing the Internet
-CAD, Revit, Office suite, engineering programs (not sure what those are...)
-possibly photo or video editing (Adobe products)
-on occasion, some very light gaming

I'm trying to decide between:

Macbook Air 13"
1.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz
512GB Flash Storage

and Macbook Pro with Retina Display 13", not sure which processor. I'd get 8 GB RAM, and either 256 or 512 GB flash memory. I do have a 1TB external hard drive (if it would work with a Mac...) if that makes a difference.

I remember asking myself that question when I was deciding which to get. I asked the apple support people on chat which one would be good for me because I am going back to school and just mainly will use my laptop for school work. The difference between a Macbook Air and Macbook Pro with Retina Display is mainly just the graphics. The retina has a higher graphics resolution. What the apple support told me is that everything else is mainly the same. If you play games, then of course the retina display is better. But the price is $200-300 more. Its mainly up to you. I got the Macbook Pro 13in with retina display. I got it cause I just liked it better then the Air. I don't like the feel of the air and how it looks. So it depends on you and what you think is better for you.
