why don't I need a separate anti-virus program?

I have a fear of computer viruses and spyware, which is one of the main reasons why I went to Mac.
1. Macs don't get most of those viruses PCs do. There is a MacroVirus which is a virus that eats Microsoft Office files, but that is the most popular, and it is VERY RARE.
2. Apple has built in defenses to keep you protected.
If you want to be more protected, I'd go for an Anti-Virus software, just to be safe.
Like I said, Virus on Mac is Super Rare.
