Turn off all lights or just some?
Can anyone tell me if the off button can be programmed to turn off only a select number of lights or does it have to be all of them? I have hue lights in several rooms in my house and was thinking about putting one of these in each room but only control the respective lights. Or would I have to use a scene button to accomplice this?

AnswerIt can turn off a select number of lights. Just make a scene with the desired lights set to 'off'. This is how I use it also.

How does that work?? no batteries? is it magic???

AnswerNo, it's science! Any button press causes a fixed magnet to move along a coil which generates electricity. This tiny bit of power is all that's needed to send out a tiny message to the Hue bulb network.
The buttons have a weird feel, very long throw. But it works reliably.- Answered by George W from Oakland

Answer
It does not work like that. You assign scenes to each button.

Does a second press of the same button turns lights off?
When I use the Philips Hue app widget, I can press to turn a scene on, then a second press will turn it off. Does this switch have the same functionality, or do I have to program a second button to turn things off?

AnswerNo, a second press of the button will not turn the lights off. You need to program a different button to turn the lights off.

AnswerNot exactly. You can assign a different scene to each button, so each of them can have different brightness presets but you can not continuously dim or brighten lights.

How many bulbs can it control at one time?

Answer50 Bulbs.
The hue system can have 50 bulbs connected to it. So if you had a scene with 50 bulbs in it assigned to a button on the Tap, it would work just fine. But it's not an ideal situation, usually these are used in a room with only a few bulbs. But if you wanted to light up your whole house with one button, you can do it!- Answered by George W from Oakland
