Look: Looked beat up out of the box.

Function: Requires turning a knobscrew to release a spring arm. KNOBSCREW COULD NOT BE TURNED BY HAND.

Packaging: Removing the foam from the box with a reasonable amount of care damaged both the foam and the box. And the manual had the audacity to suggest using the box to store photos.

    Waste of money

    • Written by Matthew F from Tallahassee

Stay away from this stand. It is flimsy and wobbles, cannot level it (and mine has a permanent lean to the left) and my MacBook Pro frequently slips off of it. Garbage stand, especially for the price.

STAY AWAY!! Macbook Pro slips. Stand is FLIMSY.

    • Written by Muhammad M from Euless

I bought this disregarding the reviews because I didn't believe Apple would offer such a low-quality product on their site but that is absolutely the case. Right when I opened the box it felt very cheap, the stand had scratches and did not even stay level, my Macbook is literally sitting on it looking crooked. That's not even the worst.. I actually had my brand new Macbook slip on to the table(thankfully no scratches)!!!! Would stay AWAY!!! I wouldn't even give this product a 1 star.

This is a nice product. It looks good. It holds the MAC well. It's just a little flimsy and bendy.

I bent one of the arms a bit taking it out of package. I didn't pull hard. I just took off the really tight, thick packaging.

It still works but it makes you wonder about what I paid for it. The packaging is awesome but the product is so flimsy and bendy that it can be bent just by removing the packaging?

I'm going to keep it. It works. It looks nice but I spent a lot of time and used a level to get it back to even. I shouldn't have to do that for $70.

    Works good, sometimes

    • Written by Eric S from Atlanta

I have this sitting in my home office and yes it does keep the laptop up...but it leans...constantly.

It is made of a nice aluminum material which is useless because the large (screw) in the back holds tight...but never seems to keep this thing straight.

You are better off buying something with two legs rather than a cylindrical column.

    Works well

    • Written by Vernon T from Venice

Based on all the reviews, I wasn't hesitant to buy this stand, but I figured I'd give it a shot because it was height adjustable and actually looked good (and the return policy). I'm completely happy with the stand and not experiencing any of misalignment issues other reviewers experienced. I'm planning on buying a second one for work.

    Stupidly Wobbly

    • Written by Xi X from Cambridge

It's a waste of aluminum, let alone the money. I am going to return after 5 mins. I needed a stand and this is the only one available in the store. Thinking the ones I had before all worked pretty well, I mean it's just a stand, what could go wrong?

Well, I don't know why Apple would even sell it in Apple store? The packaging is better than the product, that's why.
My desk is perfectly level but with the stand, my laptop leans to the left, messing up my internal balancing system.

Great Stand I'm ordering a second one.

    • Written by Michael I from Crossville

Purchased this to use with my new 15" MacBook Pro 2016 and LG 27" display. I am very pleased with the set up. Its solid, and the laptop does not wiggle, or slide its as solid as a rock. Its raised up so the bottom of the screens match up, with the laptop angled at approximately 30 deg's. This leaves room under the edge of the laptop for my Logitech wireless trackball. As soon as I finish here I'm ordering a second one to keep in my RV for use when I'm on the road. I can't help but wonder if some people are using it upside down, or failing to remove the protective transparent covering over the rubber pads.

Doesn't work properly and doesn't look like Apple

    • Written by Ignatiy F from Moscow

It's not made as well as usual 'apple' things. Materials are not pleasant, and it's not made accurately. Top and bottom parts are not aligned to each other. And the most awful thing: it doesn't stand firmly, steady. The top cylinder with laptop holder wobbles even when it's up for a half. When it's in its upper position, it has no support to stay aligned and steady at all. And it goes with difficulty up and down along an inner cylinder so as you can damage yourself while adjusting its height.

DON'T BUY!!! (I would not even give it a 1 star rating)

    • Written by Tiffany G from sandy

Way over priced AND it's junk!!! Wobbly, height adjustment doesn't lock good and the amount it adjusts is hardly worth it! The box it came in is nicer than this stand. If I was not going to return it I would use the box to set my mac pro on, not this stand!!!

    Overpriced and wonky

    • Written by Sam H from Bolton

Use a pile of books, it's much cheaper and more stable

Although the stand is advertised as 'adjustable' it barely moves. It is also usually wonky unless fully open.

You Really Want This To Be Good, But ....

    • Written by J Wendell W from Orleans

There isn’t really much more that can be said that hasn’t already been said about this stand – good and bad.

As I couldn't decide which active stand I wanted to get for my home office to get out of ergonomic jail with my MacBook Air, I decided to buy this and the Rain Design mStand.

After just a few days of side-by-side tests, the HiRise is simply not up to par with the mStand in terms of overall performance. It looks good, and comes in a very upscale package, but you aren’t paying for looks and a nice box to store stuff in. I found that the HiRise has enough glitches, that, when strung together, don’t deliver at any price, let alone the premium cost this sells for.

    Height adjustable.
    Aluminum material.
Teflon footing on base plate makes it easy to slide or turn for others to see (if you really need that functionality).

Adjustment pole has lack of sturdiness at full height.
Lock knob sometimes hard to screw-in tightly enough.
Silicon matting on the arms of the V-bracket doesn't elicit confidence unless the laptop isn't in the perfectly balanced position - high risk to be knocked off the stand.
    Construction feels iffy.
Highest setting is still too low for my needs.
Machined joints at the top and base of the main support posts have too much play.

In theory this should be a standout item, but sadly, it isn’t. This will be going back in deference to the superior mStand.

    Stand was crooked

    • Written by Esko P from Calgary

I got this stand because of the height adjustability. The "V" mount, where the laptop sits, was not centered, and off to the left about a centimeter--you can't adjust this. I'm actually quite surprised that a) an $80 stand would not have better quality assurance and b) Apple actually carries this. I got the mStand instead.

    Poorly Made

    • Written by Darryl B from Ponder

I was looking forward to getting this stand but was quite surprised after receiving it how poorly it was made. The v-shape that holds your computer was not straight with the bottom of the base and there is no way to straighten this piece. For me to us it my computer if I set it equally on the base was sitting crooked. I am returning it and purchasing a different stand.

    Excellent product!

    • Written by robert R from ponte vedra beach

This laptop stand works perfectly with my MacBook Pro 13". It has plenty of adjustability and the fit and finish is superb. The rubber is plenty sticky and holds my MBP 13" like flypaper. I shake my head when I see the 1-star reviews here. They are either trolls or are not using product as designed. I understand that what works for one does not necessarily work for another, but if one attacks this product's ability to hold a laptop in place or the ability to adjust the stand to a proper height, they're just wrong. Or their expectations were wrong. They make me shake my head in disbelief.

    Too low!

    • Written by Carly Ketzirah L from Washington

Despite some of the warnings I ordered one from Amazon. I'm not having any of the slippage problems people talk about, but I ordered for ergnomic reasons -- and the darn thing is about 2-3 inches too low. Sure, it's better than just having it on my desk, but even at the highest setting I'm still having to look down. And I'm not very tall.

    Returning it.
