    Simple and high quality

Before I bought this I saw the one-star review that said it wouldn't connect so they returned it. Then I read about what may cause this (very simple search - long wireless network name with apostrophe). So I decided to try the Omna 180Cam HD because it seemed like the best fit for us. Unboxed what looked to be a high quality device (it is), Super simple Apple-like setup. Didn't detect my long wireless network name (default Airport Extreme name). Renamed wireless network. iOS devices automatically picked up the name change, TVOS had to be updated manually. Omna app connected (nothing to change - firmware was already up-to-date) picked up the wireless network name and joined easily. This is my first Homekit device. Made sure AppleTV was setup to use Homekit (it was). AppleTV uses my wifes AppleID so I used her phone to setup a couple rooms, added the camera to a room. Then I invited my Apple ID. Viola! My wife and I can easily use the Home app to check on our dog. It works seamlessly whether we are on wifi or cellular including the speaker/microphone. We've been using it for a month now and I'm considering getting another one which caused me to see the reviews again. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I noticed that it gets pretty warm, I may see about having it turn off while we are at home. Also I think D-Link should have included a small microSD card with it.

    Most intuitive setup

Purchased this cam for home monitoring and it has been the easiest setup for any apple HomeKit product I have set up. Great field of view and the SD local storage is a plus specially with how sensitive home footage can be. I recommend this product to any user looking for home security.

    connection problems

Some useful info for people who can't connect the cam.
    - If you're using timed access based on your devices' MAC addresses, the camera will not connect
    - If you use DHCP with fixed IPs or fixed IPs only, it's likely not connect

Solutions: (1) Sacrifice your MAC filtering (that's what I did - set "Everyday-All Day" access ON) and (2) let it connect to the first IP it finds itself (this may eventually lead to IP conflicts on your LAN but you may try to extend your IP range to minimize impact).

I'll try to figure out how to let it connect with MAC filtering at least. I'll post if I find a solution.

    Great for nanny-cam

Using Apple TV as a hub, this camera is great for me being able to keep an eye on my elderly mother who has Parkensonian symptoms and is prone to falling. She is in a state where she cannot be left alone unattended and when my father is teaching, and I need to be home, if I have errands to run or have to take the dog out, I feel comfortable with this camera being in the room where she watches TV. I can see if she is getting up or about to fall and able to see if she needs me to call for help. The microphone and motion detector is an added plus. My iPhone dings when she moves and allows me to pull up the homekit app and see what she is doing, even when I am at the office 90 miles away. The microphone helps me be able to talk to her, her nurse, CNA or physical therapist when I need to. I am planning to get a couple more for other rooms in the house as she is beginning to walk on her own again.

Dropped Canary for this. If you need a monitoring cam, this is great

So as a security camera the fault is obvious, it's recording to the camera, not the cloud. That can be a pro or con depending on how much you trust other providers with your data.

You can set up notifications and screenshot from your phone. The OMNA app lets you pull from the SD card, overwrite old videos when the card fills up, and disable the LEDs making it blend into the environment a little more.

No monthly fee, homekit integration, and a better camera than Canary makes this an upgrade for me.

    complete fail

I just wasted several hours trying to get this camera set up and it simply won't connect. And after reading all the forums and apple support, my conclusion is most people have the same issues connecting it to HomeKit either now or later on after they have connected.

Keeps Dropping offline, and unable to reconnect.

Connecting this thing to the internet is painful, it simply is not a good experience at all, how can they call it smart when it is so stupid to set up?
DONT BUY THIS IF YOU DONT WANT TO SPEND HOURS TRYING TO SET IT UP.

    Good but with irritating "flaws".

Yes, some of the reviews states that you can´t connect to your iPhone unless you´re on the same network. If you are a lucky owner of an Apple TV you can actually watch through the camera app while away from home. Sorry to say my camera didn't´t make it when I installed the firmware upgrade to 1.3. It hung up when installing. Could not reset it. And the camera could not connect to my wi-fi. Sent the camera back to D-link here in Sweden and little more than a week later my new camera arrived today. I have now tried to install the firmware for a second time. And I'm sorry to say that the installation aborted in the middle of the installation process. This time however, I managed to reset the camera and I could install the camera as a new product again. Don´t know why I have this problem. But maybe my internet provider Telia and the Thomson router they sent me is part of the problem. In a few weeks I will change my internet provider and will upgrade my router then I´ll try to install the new firmware again. Apart from this problem the camera does what it is supposed to do.

    Works great when it works

I have a house full of Home Kit accessories, and this one is the worst. Extremely slow to connect both via the Home and Omna apps. 60 seconds or more sometimes and then sometimes it doesn't connect at all. Using the SD card is useful to replay events and this works fine, except same issue as above. I have 3 cameras all running the latest firmware and only one of them works flawlessly. I have excellent wifi coverage in all areas where the cameras are, so it's not me it's you....

    Horrible product

This product does not function as expected. Every two weeks it stops the connection to my network, I have to reset the whole product completely, then "attempt" to re-pair it to the Home App. It is always an attempt because, it never consistently works on the re-pairing phase. I have been in contact with D-Link support over the last several months and they do not have a solution.

I would avoid this product. I am bummed because I was hopping that it would be a great HomeKit enabled camera. Unfortunately, it is more of a hassle than convenience.

it ok but not as espected

I have several security wifi cameras in my wifi network...this d-link camera works, but is too slow to get the image.
when I open the app from the other cameras (not apple homeki) they open fast...this takes like 10 seconds more.
actually all apple homekit is slow, when you have all your house connected, updated on the status takes forever
image qality is ok, no zoom but is decent. would be great being able to ajust the wide angle so if you dont need that much, i dont loose qality

Fantastic Apple HomeKit Camera For Living Room.

I have had this product since release month. I enjoy it. The integration of live view in the official "Home" app is impressive. The live view on Apple Watch is neat. For Siri to have an eye is awesome to me. The motion detection on it is fantastic. I get notifications all day long if anything including a bug flys past it. You can access live view through Apple Watch. I can imagine having a pet & being able to see it while away through Home app. Too cool. I combined mine with a smart outlet. (Current 0.09 amps) & a microsd card.

I would. Not buy it again.

The setup is moderately easy and it gets easier each time you do it. I say this because in my expirience it will be required often.

I bought the unit because of its HomeKit compatibility, it had a 180 degrees view zone, it came from a very reputable company, and I was going to be gone for 2 1/2 months and I was going to use it for security. It worked for 5 days into my trip. At that point it became a nicely designed paper weight.

When I got home I reset it up and this time it worked for three days. Since then I have reset it up two more times with the same result. I know It's not my wifi because my home kit has been on line each time l look at it.

I hate to say it, but it will soon sit snugly in my trash can.

My suggestion don't buy it, it is not ready for prime time.

    Returned

Was excited to have this. Set up was easy. Was able to link with homekit easily. But, the thing runs real hot as does the power adapter. I was not able to connect to this unless on the same wifi network. Pretty useless if you can view it outside your home. I returned it as it was overheating and becoming inoperable.

    meets expectations

I bought this camera the first day it was available at my local apple store. I'm a typical early adopter so the lack of features are no surprise. It installed and setup easily. Works perfect in apple homekit app which was my reason for buying it. The fish eye effect is very extreme, but if positioned well the images are very clear and the 180 view angle is useful. My biggest concern and complaint is this thing is hot!!! Very hot to the touch and sometimes unable to be viewed until unplugged and restarted.

    Not ready for prime time

I've had a support ticket open with D-Link since I purchased the camera three weeks ago. The support staff are utterly clueless, they don't have any documentation on the camera either. No matter what my question was they gave me the boilerplate "how to set up your Omna" reply. I started answering them in ALL CAPS they are so stupid.

D-Link thought it was super cute to ship only a half-page "instruction manual" with the camera, which sort of hieroglyphically says "plug it in and install the app" and nothing else.

No instructions on how to set up notifications with HomeKit. Took me a long time to figure out.

You CAN monitor the camera and get notifications and watch the SD videos remotely, if you have an Apple TV lying around handy. However those features are all Apple not D-Link, so if you don't have an Apple TV you ain't getting motion sensor notifications. It's like they were developing a baby monitor product and somebody suggested they sell it as a HomeKit camera instead.

The software is dodgy, and as someone else says the camera runs pretty hot, fully expecting this to die within a year.

    Avoid.

Why can't you view on iPhone when away

Who carries around an apple tv or iPad when away from home? You can't view on your iPhone unless you are on the same wifi. Should have got nest!
