    So far so good...

    • Written by Kimberly A from Galt

After buying a new iPad, I needed a new back cover (because, for some reason, Apple discontinued their own line...which is annoying). I decided to get the Tech 21 cover and so far it's doing a good job. I agree with others on the reviews that it does require pressure to activate the on/off (or sleep/awake) and volume buttons; it's not a deal breaker, but I can understand why people don't like to apply this type of pressure to their devices. The cover is lightweight and doesn't add too much bulk to the profile of the thin device. I appreciate the translucence of the cover so that you can still enjoy the simplicity of the iPad design. There is a small rubberized-feeling lip on the top of the cover, which allows the smart cover to nestle neatly. And, although I don't do this, if you needed to place your iPad face down, you wouldn't sacrifice the glass screen. Personally, I rated this only as 4 stars because I felt the pencil holder was useless (thankfully, you can slide it off). It didn't hold the pencil securely and I was worried that it would slide out and break if it fell to the floor. I'll have to wait and see if the plastic yellows over time, but overall, very good product.

Perfect fit on holes, ports, etc. with iPad Pro 2d gen. 12.9 (2017). Lightweight, but sturdy and protective. I paired with a screen protector and had great results. First thing to break were the little nubs that hold the pencil holder to the case, but even that lasted about 8 months, so I’m happy. Presently trying to find a replacement pencil holder, preferably one that attaches to the case. The pencil holder really is handy. Also, I like the weight. The 12.9 is a bit bulky for a tablet, so it’s really nice to have the lightest case you can and still be protected. Only reason I rate it 4 instead of 5 is I wish I could replace the pencil holder only instead of buying whole new case.

Love the case but it needs improvement

Love this case but it needs improvement.
The case is slim and looks very sturdy but you can’t chrage the pencil on the iPad
Because the cover will not allow t to fit completely in

    Hope you have strong fingers

Overall, the case is nice. I like that I can remove the pencil holder for those times when I don't need a pencil and don't want the added size. However, I cannot believe how difficult it is to use the power and volume buttons. It requires about 7lbs of pressure just to change the volume. Unfortunately, all other case options seem to have even worse reviews, so I'll probably just live with it.

    Holes not cut out correctly

    • Written by Thomas D from Denver

The case feels nice enough and looks nice enough but it dose not fit correctly. The holes for the camera, microphone, and speakers are off by about 3mm. This is enough to put pressure on the camera assembly and makes me think it will damage the camera over time.

I have taken it off an put it back on many times now and really tried hard to cram it into place. However, it always slides back to pressing on the camera.

I would mail it back and ask for a new one, but they make these kinds of things all identical so I think there is a high chance that all Tech21 cases are cut like $5 China cases.

I would _strongly_ suggest that you do not buy this case on line. If you want this case, bring your iPad into the Apple store and make sure the holes are cut correctly. I just paid $20 to have it overnight-ed and now I have to go to the mall.

    How could it be better?

    • Written by Doug E from Box Elder

I really don’t know. It is perfect. I own a 12.9 2nd Gen Pro, and I watched many YouTube videos trying to find the best Hybrid Case for it. None of those videos showcased the Tech21. So, I was on the edge when it came to buying a Hybrid Case nobody talked about. Finally, I bought it because I was 3 miles from an Apple Store. I thought, if it is bad quality I can return it without shipping hassles.
Well, I won’t return this case. It is nice. It fits the 2nd Gen Pro so well you would think Tech21 was working hand in hand with Apple.
Personally, I use and appreciate the Pencil holder. You can take it off if you don’t want it. I can’t tell you what that is like because I leave it on. The Smart Keyboard is a perfect match for this case. The Pro and the keyboard will fold, connect and make their shapes while the case protects. It’s simple.
The button used to contact the Pro buttons are raised and firm. Very nice. The cutouts are were they should be. Very nice.
Something else I benefit from is the box the Tech21 Case came in. It’s a sturdy box with a drawer on the side. You open the drawer to reveal the case within. It just so happens that you can assemble the case to the Pro along with the Smart Keyboard and your iPad will fit in this box! How cool is that?

Better and cheaper than the ottterbox.

    • Written by Eddie L from Seattle

Originally purchased the otter box and returned it for this case. It is much better in my opinion....cheaper, slimmer, better feel on the back of the iPad. The pencil holder isn’t as nice and secure as the otter box’s. My favorite thing about this case is the slimness that allows me to have the case on and still fit in the $16 leather procase sleeve case from amazon if you snap the pencil holder off. I couldn’t do that with the otter box, which added material around the iPad and made the iPad thicker. I have a 2nd gen iPad Pro and haven’t had issues even though the tech21 website says this is only compatible with the first gen iPad.

Perfect case storage solution for 2nd Generation 12.9" iPad Pro!

    • Written by Omar B from Dublin

I hadn't noticed until just prior to initiating purchase transaction of my new 12.9" iPad Pro that the prior model's Apple Case that I had been using was not going to work on the 2nd Gen. iPad Pro due to it completely blocking an updated flash addition that Apple added adjacent to the camera location on 2nd Gen. models. Though I almost never use the built-in camera on an iPad this size to take photos (I have an iPhone which is much more convenient for that purpose), I still wanted to have the option available, just in case. For lack of better selection at my local Best Buy store, I tried out Under Armor Gear's Metropolis iPad Pro (2nd Gen.) Case, but, was almost immediately disappointed because it did not snap into place well, and, besides it was way too much hassle having to disassemble a part of that case just to be able to use my Apple Smart Keyboard. So, I returned that UAG case and decided to start shopping around online at Apple.com for case storage solutions that were compatible with both this 2nd Gen. 12.9" iPad Pro and my Smart Keyboard. What completely makes no sense to me is why Apple would create and sell a case for the 1st Gen. model but not for the 2nd Gen. - especially given the aforementioned hardware addition. Epic fail Apple! Nevertheless, I appreciate the thoughtfulness of the gentleman who was the only one to write a review prior concerning this Tech21 Clear Case. For lack of a better word, it is perfect! It perfectly pairs with both my 2nd Gen. iPad Pro and my Smart Keyboard. Unlike the UAG, it locks perfectly into the same angled position as I've been accustomed to for the past couple years flawlessly connecting with my Smart Keyboard exactly like my previous Apple Case would. Visually, Tech 21's Clear Case is absolutely stunning and clearly showcases the beauty of my iPad Pro for all the world to see from behind. I almost never have dropped any of my Apple devices (and, I've been a loyal Apple customer for 20 years) because, let's face it, everything Apple sells is too darn expensive to be careless and drop. I certainly don't plan on dropping my new baby; though, mistakes can and do happen to even the best of us; thus, the need for some sort of protection. Based on the sales advertisement I read, I'll have to take Tech21's word at face value and believe that it will protect to a reasonable extent the rear of my iPad Pro. Certainly, I can vouch firsthand for the look and feel of solid durability that this Tech 21 Case provides. And, the major plus is the added protection for my Apple Pen which makes it finally convenient for me to carry Pen and iPad together. I'm writing this review to pay it forward in hopes that it helps anyone interested searching for a case solution for their 2nd Gen. 12.9" iPad Pro make the best buying decision given the few commercial solutions currently available on the market.

    Tech21 FTW!

    • Written by Elliot D from WHITE PLAINS

I had hoped there would be a solution to protecting the back of the iPad Pro given the fact that Apple chose to not develop their own back plate this year. When I noticed Tech21 did I immediately was sold. They have been my go to for protecting my iPhone for years. The Impact Clear Case is another win for them. It's totally compatible with the Smart Keyboard, and even has its own pencil holder which is detachable. I would seriously recommend this to anyone looking to protect the amazing finish of the iPad.
