    Bose Soundsport Free Review 12-29-18

    • Written by Dave H from Laguna Niguel

I've had these for about 3 weeks so far. First of all the sound is amazing! As soon as I unboxed them there was a firmware update. I updated them and experienced no connectivity issues. You can easily switch between devices by pushing the button on the left earbud.

No lag time when watching my Apple movies, Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu. Youtube works fine on my iMac and Apple 4K TV but for some reason there's serious lag time when watching Youtube on my iPhone XS Max.

As I said these sound amazing but they do let in ambient noise so they aren't the best for a really noisy gym or other noisy environments. They worked fine in the weight room but the ambient noise can be bad if you're on a treadmill or elliptical so you'll most likely have to crank them way up. I know that they're designed that way and some people might like this but I wish they would offer optional ear tips that provide better sound isolation for those that want that option.

Also, these don't get as loud as my BeatsX so I have to crank them up a quite a bit more. The BeatsX have much better sound isolation but sound a bit flatter.

Still though these are amazing buds if you can live with the above issues. One last thing is that I recommend that you keep them in the charging case when not in use. I had them in my pockets and lost one of them temporarily when running errands but was thankfully able to find it. The "find my buds" option didn't work as the earbud powered off. Plus, you have to have the Bose app open on you phone or it's pretty worthless. You can't buy just one earbud and have to buy a new pair at $130.00. Ouch!

    Great Sound, Horrible Battery

    • Written by Aaron S from Ewa Beach

I have owned these earbuds for a couple of weeks and really like the sound, fit, and portability. The one issue, and it is a big one. The battery drains when in the storage case in less than a week. I own multiple pairs of headphones, and all of them hold their charge a very long time. Both my beats headphones can go months without needing a charge, not these. When you go to grab them a week later, you’ll find they are dead. I was going to return them, but decided I liked them more than this annoying defect in engineering. Yes, defect! We are in 2018-2019, for a manufacturer to make earbuds that have to be continuously changed is a bad design through engineering an inferior product. I thought mine were defective until I looked up the issue online and found 100’s of people with the same complaints. Bose’s response is this is normal, yes if you designe and engineer it wrongly. Bose’s response is to compare it to a cell phone that constantly drains its battery. Nice try Bose, compare it with headphones and not a cell phone that has 100’s of apps refreshing, downloading, and is on all the time. When my earbuds are off and in its storage case, it should hold a charge longer than a few days. I have turned off find my buds, I guess it runs in the background. This is Bose’s fix. Again, poor design and engineering on the part of Bose. These are for listening primarily, and if your engineering intended for them to be a phone, act like a phone, they have failed. I just want to listen to them when I need them, not wait for them to recharge, then I can wear them. Manufacturers try all the time to make excuses, try making solutions to this design flaw. When we spend a lot of money for something, we just want it to work, period. This has class action written all over it. Their advertising for this product is flawed. How can we get two additional charges out of a case that doesn’t hold its charge? Maybe you workout 15 hours at a time and can use the 15 minute quick charge in a single day. I workout for an hour maybe two 4-5 times a week, but I don’t use them in my home gym, I use my HomePod. But, when I take to the streets, travel, or switch between headphones, I’d like to be able to grab my Bose and go. I can grab my mofi cans that I haven’t used in 6 months, and guess what Bose, I don’t need to recharge them. They have miraculously through proper engineering hold their charge. OkY, 6 months may be a stretch, but they can go months without recharging. Destining a product that needs to be recharged like a cell phone is just plain ignorant.

    Bose FTW

    • Written by Mark C from Phoenix

I would’ve happily bought the AirPods but my ears are the type where my EarPods constantly fall out. There are plastic adapters you can get to fix this problem, but you lose much of the AirPod functionality if you do. Still wanting wireless but something more secure and with good sound quality, I opted to try the Soundsport Free. I’ve loved these since I bought them. The sound quality is great and the syncing process is a pretty simple setup. Yes some podcasts only play in one ear and yes you have to download the Bose Connect app, but these are minor inconveniences as far as I’m concerned. I hope AirPods eventually comes up with a more secure design, but for now I’m happy with these.

Amazing Sound fit not so amazing

    • Written by Scott S from Houston

Bought these and with all bose products I loved them. Sound is just amazing and not a bad price. B&O has a similar pair but for $100 more. The only issue I have with these is the fit. They just were not comfortable for me. I tried all 3 sizes of the changeable ear pieces and still could not get them to feel right. I also did not like the way the looked on. Very bulky so those things made me return them.

    Extremely Comfortable Wireless Bluetooth Headphones!

    • Written by Nicole B

When I first received the Bose SoundSport Wireless Bluetooth Headphones, I was very impressed & pleased with the design & size of the neat charging case & the earphones themselves. However it did take me a few moments to figure out how to sync them & fit them in my ear properly. It's nice that the case has R & L indicators for which goes in what ear. The noise cancelling works wonderfully - I couldn't hear anything while listening to music. I did have some issues with connection/interference where occasionally one would cut out momentarily for no apparent reason when I wasn't even far from my phone (which is what they were connected through. Even after troubleshooting there was no clear explanation for why it occurred, but it wasn't a chronic or frequent enough problem to change my opinion of them. Overall they're great wireless Bluetooth in-ear headphones & I would definitely recommend them!

    Cordless!

    • Written by Lindsey E from PALATINE

I really like these headphones! Great quality and awesome fit! Headphones don't stay in my ears typically and I haven't had any issues with these. The only con is that the left headphone's bluetooth randomly loses connection.

    Excellent set of wireless headphones

    • Written by Brandon O from Bemidji

The Bose SoundSport Free headphones are an excellent set of headphones that have both the sound quality and build quality I would expect from a premium product. I have replaced my daily use wired headphones with these, as they provide the quality sound, volume, and comfort that I need for a product that I intend to use often, for extended periods of time. They are a joy to wear while running and biking, as well as listening to music around the office or home. Overall, this is the best pair of Bluetooth 'in-ear' headphones I have ever used.

    Pros:
    No wires
    Excellent sound quality
Can wear only one at a time if you need to
Very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time
Fit is excellent and remains snug while doing sports or casual wear
    Great battery life
    Solid build quality
Convenient charging case with LED power life indicators
Bluetooth pairing works great when using a single device
    Bluetooth range is above average

    Cons:
Somewhat large (appearance) but does not affect functionality
Buttons can be a little hard to press, but I'm glad they are not cheap feeling
Bluetooth pairing can be somewhat painful when trying to switch between multiple devices

Great addition to the SoundSport family

    • Written by Ryan B from Jupiter

I believe these are the best yet of the Bose family in-ear headphones. They are comfortable to wear and have a solid fit, offering good noise isolation. Stable enough for high activity levels. I enjoy the cord free upgrade. The sound is crisp and clean with great tones for the relative small size. The charging case is well thought out, and I've even experimented with the functionality of the lost earpiece option. Your app will tell you the last location it was connected, and when in range again will start beeping louder and louder until found.

    Good but not great

    • Written by John T from Tempe

    Good:
Good sound for small headphones, truly wireless, can stay in place for long runs.

    Bad:
Poor fit (at least for me), bulky design and case, causes ear pain after prolonged use.

Great sound quality and design, but they aren't flawless

    • Written by Josh W from Wadsworth

I am sort of addicted to headphones, and I have several different pairs of Bose, and a set of AirPods. These are some of the best in terms of sound quality, and they pair quickly, thanks to the Bose connect app. I would say that between these, and the Bose Soundsport Wireless, for me - I prefer the SoundSport Wireless, because those are pretty much perfect in every way.

These sound identical, but only the right ear works for phone calls, meetings, etc - and these are a little more of a hassle to connect to my MacBook than the others.

That said - these are EXTREMELY comfortable, and stay in my ears better than any other pair of headphones I've ever tried. Couple that with the sound quality that we've all come to expect from Bose, and these are definitely a solid purchase *if* you are looking for a true-wireless headphone solution. If you are just looking for bluetooth, and don't mind a wire going behind your head in between the 2 ear buds, I would definitely give the nod to the SoundSport Wireless.

    Bose SoundSport Free Wireless headphones

    • Written by Linda R from PORT SAINT LUCIE

I love the quality of the sound for listening to music while working out and felt the comfort was very good since I have small ears and have had trouble finding a good fit for comfort in the past. They fit snug and do cause any discomfort.

I did find that they were not perfect when using them to take a call from my cell phone as others complained that they could hear an echo in my voice.

The application for connecting them to Bluetooth is easy to understand and quick to connect and I feel that the "Find My Buds" was a great feature.

    I would recommend the product.

    Great True Wireless Headphones!!!

    • Written by lamont D from Hackensack

I've currently had these earphones for about 3 weeks or so. I've had the opportunity to test them out pretty well. Depending on your ear type, they may or may not fit perfectly. One thing is for sure though, they sound great!!! They are probably the best sounding earphone out on the market currently. They sound great with all genres of music and you can optimize them with your devise eq to your liking. I primarily used these earphones with my iPhone with no complaints about the sound. Besides the fact that they stick out of your ears a bit far, my only complaint is that the sound doesn't sink with video media depending on what application you are using. For example, they are horrible with Youtube video but pretty descent with Netflix. They aren't perfect but they suffice with the Netflix program. Once they fix that issue, they will be next to perfect. The next issue is for Bose to come up with a flatter design that sits more flush to ones ear. Because of these two factors, I give these a 4 out of 5 stars. You be the judge.

    Amazing Battery Life

    • Written by Alexandra G from Watertown

I've been using these headphones for about a month at this point and am loving them! The battery life is great, I never have to worry about it since when they are not in my ears they are in the charging case. Great sound and they stay in my ears well but they sometimes feel as if they are falling out even though they never have.

    Great Headphones

    • Written by Thomas S from West Palm Beach

I tried out the wireless headphones with my iphone. I used them at the gym both weightlifting and on the treadmill. The original ear guards were too small but they included several sizes. I adjusted to the larger size and they stayed in my ear. They seem to hang out quite far on the ear. The build quality is excellent and they come in a nice charging pod. They were very easy to sync with the app on the iphone. I would recommend if you are looking for a sport wireless headphone. I have used in the past the jbird and generic chinese ones, the problem is that most do not last. Sometimes I have headphone failures after one week due to sweat getting into the earpieces. The bose have shown no problems so far with damage caused from sweat. The headphones quality build shows as they do not scratch when dropped on the treadmill.

    Definitely worth the money

    • Written by Spencer H from Grand Junction

These headphones seem to be great once I got them set up. The set up was time consuming and rather frustrating but once I got the software downloaded and them synced to my phone they have been amazing. I have very small ears and have had a horrible time finding ear buds that would stay in place. I am a runner and normally don't run with any music because I can't keep the earbuds in my ears. When I opened these I was concerned because they seem to be bulky but with the small ear pieces they stayed in place my whole run (dripping sweat and all). I also love that they charge while plugged into their case, I never have to worry about them being charged. I would have easily given these a 5 outta 5 if the set up wasn't so time consuming.

    Excellent Sound, Good Features

    • Written by Michael R from Alpharetta

These earbuds have very good sound at low and medium volume, and excellent sound at higher volumes. They’re comfortable, but be sure to insert them into your ears as Bose suggests for long-term comfort. Phone calls will only use the right earbud, and I found that audio would cut out frequently enough that I had to stop using the Bose earbuds. Perhaps a software update will fix that soon. These also feature Find My Earbuds to locate an earbud between the sofa cushions. Not perfect, but easy to recommend.

    Best wireless ever

    • Written by Vinit L

Bose, you nailed it again!!! I got the SoundSport about a month ago, the case has an amazing texture to it. The idea of using the case for charging was phenomenal and it was executed with Grace. The case can hold charging and you need not have to worry about separate charging with wires. As always the sound quality of Bose is exceptionally well in this product as well. No complains in that area. Though sometimes the signal can get disturbed even though my phone is in pocket and when I am out for running. Looks and design is up to the mark and ease of use is quite well. Overall I am satisfied with this product and would recommend if anyone is looking for wireless headphones.

Easy to use and user friendly

    • Written by Fred H from Phoenix

I have been using these earphones for about a month now. I love how they are wireless since I do not get tangled up when I am running. These are not my first pair of wirelesss earphones so comparing them to my other pairs I would say this is my favorite due to the size and battery capacity. I never run or work out for more than 3 hours and the earphones have never died on me. I wish the case was more convenient to carry around since I do not usually bring a bag with me. The buttons on the earphones are quite useful and user friendly. I would definetly recommend to my friends and family.

    Pros:
    Good weight
    Decent design
    Charging case
    Good sound quality

    Cons:
Can not choose when to charge when in case
    Earbud size too generic
Gets a little uncomfortable after 2 hours of wearing

One of the best fitness earphones

    • Written by Bimal P from Houston

This headphone is a worthy successor to the SoundSports line. The sound quality hmm. It's Bose what do you expect? It has to be top notch. Sound is incredibly clear crisp and balanced. I don't like heavier bass so this one will boil down to one's preference.

Battery lasted as advertised somewhere around 15 hrs. The fit is great however it felt like it will come out of the ear but even with running and jumping it has never fallen from my ears.

Connectivity wise it is good. Cycling through connected device is easy. But would have been nice to be able to pair it with at least two devices at a time. It has some quirks like sometimes it lags while watching videos. It's barely noticeable and doesn't happen always. Sometimes the mic under performs.

My biggest complain about it is you can only use the right earphones for taking calls. Why not the left one? Or simple stereo experience for calls too.

Overall a good wireless headphone. Worth the money.

    Great wireless earbuds!

    • Written by Min L from Torrance

    1. Sound quality: This is amazing! The sound quality is on par, if not better, than my powerbeats, jaybird x3, and most of my anker and photive over the ear headphones! The only thing is that the base is a little bit weak, but given that its a pair of earbuds, the base will never be comparable to those over the ear headphones.

    2. Battery charging: maybe i got a funky unit, but even though that bose claims that the case charges the earbuds, everytime i leave my earbuds in a fully charged case, it will never be fully charged. At most it would be charged at 75%, which is quite annoying. (But even at 75%, it can last quite a long while) Not sure what the issue is....

    3. Pairing was amazing easy! Just download the bose connect app and it would automagically connect you.

    4. Love the truly wireless design and except for the battery issue, i would highly recommend this! (also, with it being truly wireless, its quite easy to lose them, so remember to always put them back in the case)
