I am not pleased at all.

It's absurd that these should die out so quickly. I am sure this planned obsolescence is intentional. They know that you will be stuck with forking over $80 every year or so, or if you're the impulsive type that you will upgrade to another laptop. This is unfair bordering on fraudulent. There is no reason why this company cannot make a power adapter that will last the life of the computer. Shameful.

    Garbage

I absolutely love my MacBook Pro but these chargers are the worst. I have had my laptop for 6 years now and have had 4 chargers, with the most recent one almost starting a house fire. The cord melted out of nowhere and started smoking, thankfully I was home to notice this happening or it would have been a problem. Wish the adapter was up to the same standard as the laptop, especially given the price. I wasn't planning on spending $400 on power adapters for a $2000 computer. Ridiculous.

IT'S TIME APPLE RECALLED & REPLACED THESE WITH SOMETHING BETTER

When my first adapter showed what Apple call 'strain' i.e. the plastic wore away, exposed the wiring and eventually broke right off, I had no choice but to buy a new one. I went to extreme lengths to make sure I didn't put any strain on the 2nd one. But - lo and behold - it has happened again. I NEVER wrap the cable around he duck feet and I ALWAYS makes sure the cable is flowing straight out of the magnetic head but the plastic has once again eroded. I have checked on the Apple site and see you now have a mention of this in your troubleshooting section. This leads me to think that there must be lots and lots of people experiencing the same issue. I think this is a very poor design and given that there is no other way to power up your laptop once the battery has run down, this is something that needs to be addressed. Why should I have to keep replacing the adapter? And at £65 ($79) a go, it's unreasonable expensive for the usage one gets from it.

I agree with all other macbook users.

It's been said countless times, but these chargers are the worst. Every other computer out there has one that you can disconnect before the dc adapter. Replacing the chord costs about $3. Not only are they built into the dc adapter on the mac, but the chords are flimsy and fray well within a year of regular usage.

I've bought about 4 or 5 adapters in the past 4 years that I've owned my Mac at $80 a piece each. You can bet that this latest one to break is getting cracked open with a screwdriver and soldered together by hand, because there's no way that I'm going to continue to fund this kind of highway robbery.

Apple, there are 1,504 negative reviews on this charger and more come rolling in every day. Please recall this product and design one that actually works.

    3rd one in 3 years.

Junk. The first one shorted out and stopped charging my macbook pro. The second one melted close to where it connects to the laptop and almost started a fire.

    adaptor failure

I too am unimpressed with the adaptor to my Mac Book Pro. I love the computer but my cord started to fray and break near the computer plug in. It has nice strong cord but the problem is that the reinforcement is not made where the wire usually bends which causes major problems. I bought mine just a year and a half ago.

If I could give it 0 stars I would

I bought my Macbook Pro in June or July of 2010 for college. My charger that came with the laptop broke a year and a half later. I bought a new one and it really hasn't been that long and the new one has broken too!! I buy Apple products because of the quality and longevity they they are known for. I just don't understand why the chargers are so "disposable" in quality but definitely not disposable in price. $80+shipping and handling? really? PLEASE, does Apple read the reviews we leave? Work on a better charger!!

    Awful Product

I've owned my Macbook Pro for two years now and the charger already stopped working even though I made sure that I took care of it and stored it properly. Extremely disappointing. No visibile signs of damage to the charger; it simply does not charge my computer when plugged in. The cost of replacement (at ~$80) is also ridiculous. If $80 every 1-2 years is the cost of maintaining a Macbook, I will likely not be buying an Apple computer again.

    Poorly made and hugely overpriced

Selling these for $80 is absolutely obscene. The end with the magnetic bit that plugs into your computer gets twisted around and the wiring internally gets frayed, resulting in the whole thing losing all function. And you cannot take it to a store to fix this problem, you have to buy a new one. For such a small, readily occurring injury to make the product obsolete, this is much too high a price.

Same (expletive) as the old one

Two of the old design broke within a year, so I bought 2 of the new design ones - we have 2 MacBooks . In less than 1 year and one of them is broken again.
For 80 bucks a pop, you'd think it would last a bit longer.

    Horrible quality. On #3

I enjoy my MacBook Pro... When I can charge it. In less then a year, I have gone through three of these cheaply constructed adapters. I fully admit the first adapter broke because my pet got a hold of the cord and chewed the wire covering. The 2nd one was kept safely stored and just stopped charging one day. Now on #3, I have covered the entire cord with thick aquarium tubing so it can not bend at all. It's pathetic, but hopefully it will work. If I go to the electronics store, Apple is the only manufacturer that has a shelf of power adapters for sale. Why is this? Because Apple knows these things break easily. I have never had to replace a laptop power adapter until I bought this MacBook Pro. I really wish Apple would construct a power adapter that was as high quality as their laptops.

    Surprisingly awful product

I purchased my MacBook Pro for college. Naturally, I expected great things from a company who advocates so strongly for education. The MagSafe Power Adapter has NEVER worked properly. Each time I connect it to my MacBook, I have to play around with it before the light goes on and my computer charges at all. Now, after reading MANY reviews, I fear that soon it will stop working altogether. I'm extremely disappointed in Apple for its failure to produce a dependable product. As a student, I depend on my computer for my education, and if my computer has no power, what am I supposed to do?

Here we go again! I'm on adapter #4!

I love my Mac computer, but I continue to have adapter trouble. In the last 2 years, I've had my adapter replaced 3 times and the "newest" one is about to go. There's a kink in it somewhere that prohibits power flow. This is extremely annoying! All the reviews are right: if Apple is such a technologically-advanced company why can't they construct a power adapter that lasts?!? I mean, it's all and good if your products look cool, but it also needs to function! Revamp you design and get it right! It's just pathetic. And the apathy you guys show your consumers is enraging.

    Trash

I'm encouraged after reading reviews that I'm not the only who has had trouble with this product. I thought maybe I was cursed or something. I'm on my third power adapter in less than a year. I'm very disappointed that these can't even last 6 months. Please Apple - design a power adapter that will last! (My old beat up PC Toshiba laptop still works with the original power adapter after 10+ years. Surely Apple could make something that sturdy!)

    Ghastly

I purchased this product as a replacement for the standard "t" adapter, and for about 2 weeks it worked splendidly. Then it stopped working unless I had maneuvered it into just the right position, until finally it stopped working altogether. It's a horrid piece of work if it breaks after 2 weeks. The old T adapter served me well until it overheated and died, perhaps Apple should let a third party take care of their chargers, since they're obviously grossly incompetent.

    Junk!

I've had 2 of these die on me in the past 3 months. The latest one to kick the bucket only lasted 3 weeks! None of them have been abused in any way, they're just poorly made and I'm getting sick of taking these things back to the apple store!

    Hate this charger

It stopped working the second day I bought it. I had to come to the Review to see what kind of problems people have and their solutions so I can maybe get mine working again. It worked after I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in. I was very upset to see it break after just a day of usage and trying to figure out what happened to this faulty charger. It is kind of a relieve to know that I can always make it work by removing the battery.

Aside from the frustration of its functionality, I like that it comes with an extension cord. Apple should make all their products free of defect.

Safety hazard - poor strain relief

I don't often write reviews, but in this case I just had to say something. My wife's cable frayed at the connector, shorted out, and actually smoked. This is such a poorly designed cable it's ridiculous. I make cables for industrial electronics, so I know a little bit about them. Apple has clearly designed this charger to just look pretty. The little bit of tubing at the connector that they apparently think is strain relief hardly does a thing. This is a problem on all my iPhone cables too. Apple, please ditch the strain relief tubing and provide real molded strain reliefs. And replace my defective chargers and cables while you're at it.
