1.5 star average rating says it all

I love my MacBook pro to death. But this power adapter is terrible. It's weak and it snaps fast. 2 out of 10 people might make it last for years but for any average user, this adapter just does not last long. Apple needs to have lifetime warranty on these little things.

    Horrible!

Are you kidding me, Apple? I've been through so many of these chargers, I've lost count. It angers me to no end that you haven't been listening to all of your negative customer reviews. I'm not about to pay another $80 bucks to get a charger that'll break after a few months. Never thought I'd say this, but unless you actually start caring about your customers' opinions, I'm going PC. I wish there was a negative number of stars, because 1 is far too many.

    piece of junk

This adapter is insanely overpriced, and falls apart. the wire soon becomes exposed with normal use and it will need to be replaced. Apple seriously needs to redesign these.

    Charger is awful

I have had my MacBook for almost 2 years and now have my third failed charger. No damage, no misuse; the thing just stopped working. This is ridiculous! Never had this issue with a PC.

    Adapter FAILS

I've had my adapter for a little less than a year. I'm always really careful with it. All of a sudden, IT DOESN'T WORK!

Now, I'm 3 hours away from the nearest retailer and need to study for finals. All my notes are on my mac, and I CANNOT CHARGE IT. So apple has screwed me over for finals, and the $80 I'm going to have to pay to replace the adapter. NOT IMPRESSED.

Power supply cord for MacBook Pro

I've replaced 3 of these adapters since buying my MacBook early 2011. I now need a fourth. I was searching here to find out if I was the only one with this problem. Clearly not. So I add my voice to the multitudes of unhappy MacBook users with frayed cords (and tempers.) Please Apple, why on earth can you not design a sturdier set up for a power supply? I'm good at storing adapters, appliance cords etc, this is the only one that breaks down.
There should be a recall. Or, you should make replacements MUCH cheaper than $79. And you need to create a better design.

    Absolutely Horrible

These chargers consistently break and wear away within a year. I constantly am forced to replace them. I have owned my mac for 5 years and gone through 6 chargers in that time. They simply do not last, despite any additional efforts I put forward to improve their longevity. Absolute shame these are still sold at $80, makes me hate apple.

    Horrible Power Adapter

I am onto my 4th or 5th charger.. i honestly lost count. this is ridiculous!!! My most recent issue is the magsafe part has seperated from the rest of the power cord and i have to take a sharp item to pry the magnet off of the computer to attempt to fix only to have it spirit again!!! this is the worst design ever!

    Broken again!

I have had to replace 2 chargers already and now onto a 3rd. This last time the wires become damaged and exposed at the connection point of the charger. I have been told by apple employees that I am just not storing it properly but I have taken their advice each time and STILL it ends up breaking. My boyfriend and I now have to share his charger until I get a new one but it doesn't even charge the computer, so I have to always have it plugged in - another problem I have been told is common.
I love my Mac computer but am so disappointed with this accessory. They are way to expensive to be breaking this often!

    I cant believe!

This is my second mac book .My first one had a problem with the power adapter after 4 years of use.(strain relief)
Now with my second one, something happens after just one year of use and the cable doesn´t seem to be broken or something.....
Is there any documented problem with the L style connectors?

    Worst charger ever!

I am now about to purchase my 4th charger for my 2 year old MacBook. The charger lasts about 6 months maximum before it dies.

    Poor design

The original adapter for my 2007 MacBook lasted for three years. It finally died, so I bought a replacement- this 60W MagSafe Power Adapter. It lasted only 7 months before it broke. I replaced it again, and THAT one broke down in 6 months. Today I very grudgingly bought another adapter- my THIRD 60W MagSafe in 13 months- and I don't expect much longevity out of it. I've purchased every time at an official Apple Store.

Compared to the previous design, the current 60W adapter is shoddy.

    Awful

I have had this thing for ONE WEEK and it quit on me. I just paid 80 dollars for this thing to quit on me in one week. This is such a necessary item I am completely appalled at how poorly this is made, you should be embarrassed.

    Worst Apple Product!

not a great adapter, crazy expensive replacement

From day one this adapter ran super hot, so hot that it made marks in my couch. I have been soooo careful with this cord. I've never bent it and rarely even wrapped it and when I did it was wrapped super loosely. There are no frayed wires, no breaks in the plastic insulation and yet here I am with an adapter that won't work. This means that the problem is entirely the manufacturers fault. The least Apple could do is price the cord in a way that reflects the cheap quality of the product but instead they price the cord at four times what other companies charge for their adapters.

    Apple FAIL.

    Replaced twice in 3 years

I am on my third charger and have had my macbook for only a little over two years! The chargers work for a few months, then start working only intermittently and then not at all. I don't think many people can afford to buy a new magsafe adapter every time they die and maybe Apple should make it a priority to develop new chargers that last longer.

If there was an option for 0 stars, I'd pick that.

This is my second charger and it took only a year for the wire to fray. I think it's the actual design of the charger that causes it to break like this. Really disappointed.

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars

    Very disappointed

Pretty soon I'll need to buy a fifth adapter in as many years of use. Same as what everyone else is saying. The rubber coating starts tearing at the base of the magnetic connector (one time it came apart completely). Then the wires fray and you can bet it'll be game over in days or weeks. This is all from normal use. The first time I had this problem, the Apple Store clerk (oh pardon me, genius) told me it's because I was twisting and turning the cord and that the MacBook Pro is meant to sit still at the same spot for years on end. Which is ridiculous. Of course I move it from sofa to work table to bedroom, travel with it, etc., all just normal use. I certainly don't twist it and turn it. No matter how gentle I am, no matter how hard I try not to cause any tension in the cord, the same thing happens again and again, making the MacBook Pro several hundred dollars more expensive than the list price.
