Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter

This is a great product. Have had mine for 4 years. I am buying my third Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter because I like them so much and want to have one in my bedroom, my home office and now finally , my living room. It is just so much easier if I do not have to unplug and bring it with me. I heartily recommend this product. never had any problem at all.

    I would give Zero star

I would expect the charger that came with the machine that cost me over USD $ 4000, was of super-quality lasting for at least a decade. I treated the charger extremely carefully, but it didn´help at all. Personally, I think Apple should offer a new charger for free of charge to anyone using this charger. I had to pay $79.00 only for a new single charger. A crazily overpriced item with no equivalent quality. This was a huge dissapointment that I will remember for a long long time, unfortunately.

    Terrible...

This is the third Apple charger I have bought for my rMBP-15. First one died after 2 years, second one frayed at the mag end and now this one has frayed as well. Never again. I am going to pick a new band of laptop for my next purchase. Steve would be ashamed of this product.

Failed after 3 years of sitting on my desk.

My MagSafe 2 charger died after only 3 years of sitting on a clean desk with plenty of air ventilation. I have an L shaped MagSafe charger from 2011 which is still going strong. Not sure how an older charger which has been through the ropes with harsher treatment then this newer charger is still working great while this one died on me. I noticed the orange light was no longer lighting up on the T connecter while the MacBook pro was charging. The green light would come on once the MacBook pro battery reached 100%. Now no light at all whatsoever and now my $2700 dollar can't be charged until I pay Apple $80 for a new charger. So until I pay $80 I have a $2700 paperweight due to Apple knowing these charges are junk. GG Apple. This makes sense why you only warranty anything for 1 year. Also it's very ironic that lots of Mac users report their MagSafe 2 chargers failing just about right after the 1 year mark. Coincidence?

    Disposable

The poor quality of this charger is a bad match for a nice Macbook. Price is not even close to justified.

    Excellent

Approaching 3 years with zero issues. Mine has been very durable, while my girlfriend's charger fell apart after about 2 years of use. Guess it comes down to proper usage and care.

    Power cord disintegrating.

Power cord poor quality. Rubber insulation now shredding from cord. Can't tape it up fast enough. Have to purchase new one for $79.00 plus tax....

    Terrible.

This charger falls off of the computer so easily, leaving my computer not charging overnight. Also, it is disintegrating and tearing apart. I do not use this charger in a manner that would cause it to tear apart, I leave it in the same spot and plug in my computer every night, rarely does it get put in a bag or bent. I do not understand why this product is so poorly made. Definitely not worth $79.00, I am very displeased with this charger.

Outer layer of cord splits and frays quickly

Under very light use the outer layer of the MacBook end of the cord disintegrates. The entire cord then slowly falls apart and becomes dangerous.

If you get two years out of it you are lucky. I'm on my third one. I only wish I could give it zero stars.

    Excellent MagSafe, Terrible cord

Love the MagSafe feature. It saved my computer many times! Hate the cord. The cord decomposes and crumbles far to quickly. I find this same problem with my iPhone and iPad cords as well. I expect much more durability from Apple. I would prefer durable cords but if you cannot produce better cables and cords, why not make the removable from the charger to lessen the cost of replacement? But then, you would need to make it so it would not overheat! I give this product 5 stars for MagSafe and 1 star for the poor durability cord.

    Worst cable design

The outer insulation started cracking new the brick end perhaps within a year of original purchase. Now, after a couple years, the computer end is also splitting. I have never seen this low quality on even the cheapest electrical supply cables. Is it UL listed? I have been fortunate so far that there has been no sparking as others have experienced. Sadly, there are no alternatives.

    Wow, it actually started burning

I can't believe something so poorly designed by Apple is still the only option available for powering my Macbook Pro. The weak point on the cord frayed and sparks started flying along with smoke while I was working. Not impressive at all.

    My experience also good

After replacing my POS PC laptop that had cracked because someone tripped over the cable and it fell to the floor, I've used my rMBP for over two years without problems with the power supply. I love the cable and the MagSafe connection. It has saved the computer from being yanked off a table several times. Unfortunately I now have to replace it because my new puppy ate the cord. Bonus, of course, that I can still use my laptop until I can get a new power supply because the battery lasts such a long time. But, that's why we love them anyway, so no news here. BTW I have dropped my MacBook a couple of times and no one would ever know. Also, I've found that the easiest way to disconnect the plug is to tip it down so it falls right off. That way there's no tugging or twisting on the cord anyway.

    Expensive and Dangerous!!!!!!!

I have gone through 2 of these changers in 2 years. They overheat turn yellow and brown on the end and spark. If I did not notice the sparks it would have caught fire. This is a shame. I have never had a problem before with an apple product. When I called customer service they sent me out a new charger, had me return the defective charger and still billed me for it. Very disappointed!

    Product Fail

The insulation broke apart right by the connector. Good thing a replacement only costs $79. Come on Apple. Build these things to withstand simple day-to-day usage.

    This adapter works as designed

I’ve been using this adapter on my late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina for over 4 years. I generally don’t have it plugged in when using on my lap as the battery life is sufficient. However, when I do occasionally have it plugged in while on my lap, I have not experienced any instances of it getting knocked out of the socket. The only times that it has come unplugged is if the cord gets caught on something like the arm of a chair when I try to move and this is by design. The magnet is sufficiently strong enough for me to be able to plug it in in the dark.

    Work as expected

You might want to just buy the 85W one even if you have a Macbook Air, as it is fine to use a higher rated power supply than the original unit (e.g. 65W or 45W)

    Poor build quality

Absolutely hate this charger. My fourth charger in four years. So stupid of you for making such a poor quality charger. Magsafe 2 is the worst, I had to keep my charger at an certain angle for last few days to let my laptop charge and then it just stopped working. I am a loyal Apple user with an iMac, 2 Macbook pro's, iphone and an ipad. The products works fine but the accessory quality is too poor which is really annoying after a point of time. HATE THIS !!
