Bad design, Apple needs to make a new one.

The cable will start to overheat after a year and turn yellow. I am surprised there is not a lawsuit yet as this could be a dangerous outcome for many owners leaving their laptop to charge. Design a new charger Apple. You owe it to your customers.

    Apple cables disintegrate

I have a 40 year old guitar cable that looks better than the 5 year old power adapter cable and I dare say the guitar cable saw much more difficult environments. Why can't a trillion dollar company like apple make a cable?

    Dies every two months

It’s unacceptable how often these burn out, especially at this prices point.

    The Terrible Adapter Club

Well, it looks like I am joining the masses with complaints about the 85W MagSafe 2 Adapter. My first one frayed after couple of years use, so I bought a replacement which only lasted a few months before it did the same. I now have duct tape around it to hopefully keep my house from burning down, and I am getting ready to once again buy a replacement which will probably do the same things as the previous one. This isn't fair, and should be resolved.

    Bad Design

How do we pay so much for a product that has obvious design issues? The charger keeps falling out of socket. Just purchased new in 2018. This should be a quick fix, apple!

    Unrealiable and expensive

One day it just made a puff of smoke and died on me, out of the blue. It is a rather expensive part and because you can't use your computer without it I would expect it to work forever, or at least outlive my laptop.
I would prefer buying a branded alternative if any was available but unfortunately, it's not. Only Apple, and immitations I wary to use.

    TERRIBLE CHARGER

I've gone through 2 apple chargers within the past two years because these are not made durably. For a company that's worth a TRILLION dollars, they have not figured out how to produce a wire that is durable. Really?!? For how much the Macbook Pro cost this is unacceptable. I would give this product 0 stars if possible.

    beautiful but useless design

No matter how carefully you swirl the cable.
The two connection parts of cable are easily broken.

    Disappointment

You know when you spend close to $3,000 on a laptop and then the charger is so fragile that the CABLE ends up tearing out of nowhere and then you can literally see the inside of the cable. SMH apple SMH.

    Look for something else!

Not only does this fall out far too easily, but from simple use it has frayed and is now dangerous. Who wants to use an electrical power cord with wires showing? Not me!
Sad that this is $80 to replace and likely the same thing will happen.

Does anyone else make a compatible product that lasts?

I am currently looking to buy my 2nd power adapter for my 2015 MacBook Pro. Not only do they come unplugged from the wall, but the biggest problem I keep having that the rubber separates from the 'T' and the electric wires end up getting exposed. I'm using electrical tape (again) to try to prevent an injury, or my house from burning down! Can anyone tell me if there is a compatible product that will be safer for my family and my home?????

    MagSafe 2 new design

I have used the magsafe Power adapter for many years and love the design of the magnet, which is very strong. It has saved my laptop from many crashes off the table. When I got my new laptop earlier this year I was dismayed to find that the redesign of the magsafe power adapter makes it easy to disconnect at the slightest bump. If I set my lap top on my lap or other uneven surface (bed) the power adapter disconnects. The magnet seems weaker and it sticks out to far so it easily bumps when lap top is moved. Hoping to see a resign of this more like the original magsafe power adapter.

Terrible Insulation Material, Frays in Just a Year

I absolutely HATE the material Apple uses for their power cables' insulation. Why do they feel the need to use such a soft and easily ripped rubber? How about something that will actually last as long as the computer? Why can't the MagSafe cable itself be detachable from the power brick just like the AC-side extension cord? Maybe then I wouldn't have to spend $100 every year replacing the entire thing. But then that'd cut into Apple's profits, just like why they ditched the iPhone's microphone jack and all the useful ports on the MacBook Pro in favor of dongles.

It's not like my computer gets subjected to a lot of wear and tear, it just sits in my bedroom. How a power cord self-destructs like that under such low stress conditions I have no idea other than Apple designing them to fail.

MagSafe connector failed - just before a big meeting

These things are the worst. Seriously deficient for a company of Apple's reputation. Shameful that they do not recall/replace these. My laptop literally stopped charging just one day. About two hours before a big presentation, I was out of town, nowhere near a store to replace this. Luckily a guest in the hotel had one and lent it to me. Kind soul. Otherwise I would have been SoL! Apple, get your $hi# together on this. Will seriously consider a windows machine next time.

    4 DAYS OF USE!!!!

I got this computer and used to for 3 charging cycles before it literally quit working. The LED light doesn't come on and it will not charge my computer, or anyone else's apple computer I have tried it on. This is asinine!

    Another Unhappy Customer

It's been fine for 4 1/2 years. Went to charge rMBP and nope, not working. I would not have thought too much about it but seeing all the bad reviews it looks like it is a common problem. Plus, $85! Failure should not be this common for an $85 charger. I know I've taken good care of mine. But still failed.

    They Keep Shorting Out

I have a 2015 Retina Macbook Pro. I love my Mac but I hate this charger. This is the second time I've had to buy a new charger. This time the charger popped and blew a circuit breaker. It was plugged into a power outlet and charging my laptop. I heard a pop, the lights went out, I smelled a whiff of smoke and immediately unplugged it. It doesn't charge anymore and the LED in the Magsafe2 part doesn't light up. The first charger did something similar about THREE MONTHS after I bought my MacBook Pro. As a longtime Apple fanboy, it's very disappointing to have to keep buying new chargers for my Mac.

    Waste of Money

These chargers are terribly made, I have had to replace mine twice since buying my laptop in 2015. I am extremely careful and they still fall apart. $79 is way too much for a charger that seems designed to break. I won't be buying a MacBook next time I need a new laptop solely because of the charging cords. I wish I could give this product zero stars.

    Poor quality product

Besides occasional travels, my MagSafe 2 power adapter had been sitting in my office for the past couple years. The adapter stopped working this morning, even though (i) the device had no signs of damage and (ii) the wire did not have any strains. When I explained my situation to a sales representative at my local store, she simply told me that Apple warranty lasts only 1 year and that this adapter should not break as long as it is "treated nicely."

I agree with other reviews here that this adapter is designed quite poorly. I am not sure what else I could have done to treat this adapter any nicer, if sitting in an office is enough to make this product stop functioning.

Cord unable to handle computer use while charging.

I had this charger for 2 1/2 years. One thing I observed about the cord is while the computer was in use and plugged in, the cord would overheat, and slowly deteriorate. I would expect the cord to last longer under normal use, but there should also be a way to account for when the computer is in use while charging.
