Utterly hopeless, and no real solution to date.

Have had Apple computers and hand-held devices since the late 80's, but my new MBP 15" retina display has only been in my possession for 2 years now and I've had to replace the adapter once already - at my own expense no less. At $80 a pop, this is ridiculous and needless. My last MacBook served me well for almost a decade, and I never had to replace the adapter once. What gives Apple? At the very least, you should have replaced my adapter ONCE since I'm still within my 3 years of Apple Care. Maybe other MBP users are made of money, and can just replace their power adapters with no consequence financially. But that is not the case for me. I'm so disappointed! Oh, and that's not even counting the other 2 major issues I've had with this MBP (keyboard and USB port issues). Sigh. Companies just don't care anymore about their customers, including Apple apparently. PLEASE fix this adapter issue!

    I'm on my third charger.

My chargers last less than 1 year on average. Seeing that you're not able to produce a sturdy piece of equipment even though you've known about this problem for more than 10 years, could you guys at least permit other companies to build aftermarket chargers for your Macbooks?

    horrible

My daughter and I both own a mac book pro with retina display and they are both a little over a year old and both chargers are done for! mine is on its legs leg and has tape everywhere from the constant unplugging, I can even breath around this charger because it unplugs! my daughters, won't even charge her laptop anymore and she use the laptop in one spot. I really hope Apple fixes this design because its horrible!

Does the job but breaks easily

Ive broken 2 of these $100 dollar charges while taking good care of them. They fray very easily, come on apple.

Bad design in functionality AND aesthetics

The MagSagfe requires a lot of reworking. The lack of support at the stress points of the cord leaves it susceptible to fraying, especially when you employ the two prongs designed to pack the whole thing away. We're told that the design team chose not to implement support for these joints because they weren't aesthetically pleasing, and if a design team cannot come up with a beautiful design solution, then they aren't really doing their jobs. They chose aesthetics over functionality, but the power adapter is so awkward in design. The lower end is large and bulky whilst the path leading to the laptop is thin and flimsy. How are these two components meant to last alongside one another?

I should not have to be the one to reinforce the cord's stress points with one of the many 'hacks' seen online addressing this issue. If people on the internet can devise a solution, surely the design team at Apple can too.

    Rubber sheathing comes off

The rubber sheathing around the smaller diameter cord is deteriorating and coming off. It is like some alien micro-organism is eating away at the rubber sheathing exposing wire shield around the cord. I fear it may only be time before nearly instantaneous disseminated intravascular coagulation sets in... or it could be horribly bad QA on the part of Apple on the material used as this is the second adapter I have had problems with.

    Worst product ever

I am very careful with my computer and his accessories. I have had no problems with my laptop, but I am in the process of ordering my third charger. Guarantee never covers the damage. Very disappointed, very bad quality product and assistance.

Starting fraying just a year over purchase. $80 for another. Not durable. Awful product.

    Failed in under a year

The cord frays and fails in under a year. You have only one option: buy another for US$80.

This isn't enough to make me stop buying Apple, but enough of this sort of issue around Apple products might be. Fix this, Apple.

    Simply Awful.

The DC side of cord overheated at the base of the inverter and frayed away from it. This happened right after my warrantee ran out. Why in the world does apple not make this a standard DC plug? Then at least I could replace the cord instead of the entire assembly.

    Poor Design

This is my second Macbook. The previous charger cord laid flush along the edge of the computer. The new design for the Macbook with Retina display sticks straight out. It gets knocked off repeatedly. You can't even set it in your lap while it is charging without the chord falling off. Why not go back to the old design? Will the old charger work with the Retina display macbook?

    No Quality

I am writing this review with 3% battery on my Macbook Pro. After this review, my laptop will have to be charged by its new owner because $320 in charge cables is absolutely asinine. I can't do it anymore. It is becoming completely redundant, and using my Macbook is now a hassle. It is a shame that I have to switch to WINDOWS to avoid unnecessary charger fees. You would think that after so many negative reviews, Apple would get a grip and redesign a defective model.

The Pros: This cable did not set my house on fire when it burned

$1 cable flaw disrupting a $3000 MBP, sad!

The power adapters output side cord has a material flaw. My MacBook Pro's last an amazingly long time. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same thing about the power adapter, I've never had issues with the actual connection to the laptop itself. I have issues where the thin output cable running out of the charging brick itself. I am now on number 5 for two MBP's. They have degrading output cables, splits open and frayed shielding of the cable. Sad the power brick itself will still function if not for the poor thin cable breaking causing the complete system. It's a shame the apple has fallen so far from the innovative tree it once was. I'll modify the new one I buy today myself.

    CrapApple!

Would give this zero stars. Major fail. This accessory is rotten to the core Apple. To charge my laptop while you charge an arm and a leg ... for what? If Jobs saw these reviews he'd be all over this, and several heads would roll. Fix it, and then ship FREE replacements to every owner.

    STOP BREAKING

I'm on my third charger and this is not okay. I'm a student and am about to switch away from Apple just because I can't afford to keep replacing the chargers. Not cool apple, I own all of your products and this stinks.

This is getting ridiculous. PLEASE fix these chargers or drop their price.

I have a lovely mid 2012 MBP retina and as fantastic as the machine has worked for me, i've literally gone through some 3-5 of the Magsafe 2 chargers since ive had it.
    This is straight up ridiculous.
Im at the point where i take extra specific care with ANY manipulation of the wire or charger and let it cool down before wrapping or putting it in a bag and it STILL breaks. My sister who lives in the same building has a similar macbook and has gone through 3 or so as well.
This wouldnt be such a HUGE issue for as many people as it is if Apple wasnt asking €80 IN IRELAND FOR THESE CHARGERS.
    Like really? REALLY?

PLEASE fix this. That is an OBNOXIOUS price for a PLUG to begin with and one that has so many bad reviews?
I love my macbook but this is a major issue with using them.
