    What is up Apple?

This is my third charger in 3 years. Is it made to work for just one year???? and I am not the only one complaining here.

    not build to last

I go though 1 charger a year. It is getting old. I'm tired of paying $80 for a poorly constructed charger. Apple I expect better quality.

    TERRIBLE PRODUCT

After purchasing one about 5 months ago, to which i had to buy one 9 months prior to that, now i have to purchase another 80 dollar charger that blows out, so I'm on my 4th charger, including the original one I got when getting the laptop.

I take good care of my charger since they're so darn expensive, but this is outrageous. The only thing I do with my charger is bring it here and there from class to home while having it nicely and safely coiled up in my backpack. This is horrible. Apple needs to make a charger that can last AT LEAST 2 YEARS. I haven't had a charger this horrible in my life. 5 month run, WTF.

    Absolute junk ... disposable quality!

Apple's power adapters are awful quality, it's a running joke in our family they are so disposable. We've had a couple dozen MacBook's in the past few years for business and personal use, and every one of them has required at least 2-3 adapter replacements. The white cord splits, frays and inevitably fails - and we are very easy on them (they stay stationary and aren't traveled with) ... the only wear is plugging it into our machines. Our latest casualty actually looked like a fireworks show as it finally gave out and started sparking and flashing in a very dangerous way. SO disappointed that Apple hasn't addressed the quality issues here!

What? How can a 2000 € computer have a cable as wimpy as this?

My MacBook & cable are exactly 1 year and 5 months old. And yesterday the cable just stopped working. No signs of damage. Everything still nice and neat and perfect - except - it stopped working. WHY oh WHY must Apple do this to me? Thank goodness I spent a fortune on a cover-all guarantee for 500€. I would have gone stark raving mad if they had asked me to pay for the new one. Actually one of the salesmen even thought so, but he was corrected by his colleague. This is unacceptable for a machine this expensive. There has to be at least one other way of charging the MacBook as a backup solution. The MagSafe comes with a little cap which I obviously lost at some stage, my new resolution is to always put that cap on when the charger is not in use. But somehow I have an inkling feeling that its going to be kaputt again next year - no matter what. I don't want to speculate - but - I don't think Apple is interested in selling MacBooks that last forever - so maybe they can deactivate the chargers from a distance??? This is the kind of nonsense people conjure when Apple fails them. Make it go away!

    Bad design

It is disappointing how Apple failed to fix this design flaw. I have ended up buying 3 chargers in total because the end of the charging cable always snaps and renders the charger useless, much like the iphone lightning cables. Make it out of a more robust material!

Annoyed I have to buy a replacement after so short a time

Cord frayed, I've never experienced this with any non-Apple charger cord, it's a totally unnecessary extra cost for people already paying too much for Apple products. Now I have to fork out another $79-plus taxes etc. I'm going back to Windows laptops.

    Your Nightmare Incarnated

Think of the worst thing that has ever happened to you. Then think worse.

This is that spawn of he ll that keeps you up at night, wondering how a human (or in this case a group of humans) could do this to another human. Apple, a company that prides itself in delivering quality, innovative products, lost all sense of importance when it came to designing the MagSafe 2 Power Adapter. This product is so terrible, it doesn't even deserve the pathetic sympathy star Apple forces you to give it on this form. At a price point of over $70, this charger challenges you to break it out of rage before it simply breaks out of regular use. With regular use, one can expect this charger to stumble its way to death within 6 months. With careful use, one might expect somewhere around 6 months and 1 week of usability. The AC side of the unit is the only salvageable half, while the T charger side can be likened to the thickness of an iPhone cable paired with the laptop charging capabilities of a rock. You're better off using your Macbook until it dies and just tossing out the laptop and buying a whole new unit because you end up coughing up $100s of dollars on useless chargers as a painful reminder that Apple now owns your life. Want to use third party chargers? Well get ready to be slapped in the face by Apple with devilishly tight regulation on their IP, to the point that they have a monopoly on T shaped magnetic chargers for Macbooks. Any other version will be met with incompatibility or likely fry your sensitive Macbook.

Welcome to the hole you've dug yourself and thank you Apple for throwing us the $77 shovel.

    a dangerously horrible charger

I love Apple, always have, always will because you do so much right but dear Lord you guys need to get on your game with your chargers. While working on my computer today I smell something burning, after some investigation I discover it to be the charger to my laptop. Thankfully I caught it before it shorted out my computer or worse caught on fire! Please fix the quality of your chargers or at the very least provide an affordable replacement so people are not having to shell out hundreds of dollars a year simply to charge their devices.

    DC cord will certainly break

Two MacBooks, two broken chargers. Right now, I feel electric current when I touch metal parts of the charger and also the aluminum body, even though I always carefully unplug and store so as not to put too much strain on the cable. I can't understand why they don't change the design of the clearly to weak cord.

$1 cable flaw disrupting a $3000 MBP, sad!

The power adapters output side cord has a material flaw. My MacBook Pro's last an amazingly long time. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same thing about the power adapter, I've never had issues with the actual connection to the laptop itself. I have issues where the thin output cable running out of the charging brick itself. I am now on number 5 for two MBP's. They have degrading output cables, splits open and frayed shielding of the cable. Sad the power brick itself will still function if not for the poor thin cable breaking causing the complete system. It's a shame the apple has fallen so far from the innovative tree it once was. I'll modify the new one I buy today myself.

    Design & Functionality - ok / Durability - worst

I actually like the design and functionality of the charger. Unfortunately, I already had to buy my 3rd charger just at the end the 3rd year of having my Macbook. The cables constantly break, always at both ends and the wires come out, which doesn't´look good and most certainly also isn´t safe. So consider these "service costs" probably for each year.

    TERRIBLE!

There's another 266 reviews I can see, and this product averages a rating of 1 star. That should tell you something.

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro (11,5). This is my 3rd charger. First one melted the plastic inside the magnet AND the cord itself, the second one developed burned contacts inside the magnet and has damaged my MagSafe charging port on my machine (it eventually stopped working after only 4 months), and the third one - which is brand new - is sparking like mad every time I connect it to the MagSafe 2 port.

Apple really needs to solve this problem badly. Really disappointed about this - after all, it's a Eur3100 piece of hardware.

One of the worst Apple products

I do not actually understand why is so BAD. They can make it much more repairable by letting all two cables be detachable. Praise Jesus for USB type C charging on newer macs!

Apple please make your charges long lasting!

Despite taking care to supply proper power via a spike/ups to the charger and taking care not to break the cable at the start and end, i'm facing component failure in the primary of the charger! i have dell charger used roughly on direct power...no problems at all! Why do i have to shell out 80 dollars or Rs 6600 for a charger when it could be fixed by apple for a nominal amt instead of making the user pay for a new one? This seems to be major money spinner for apple and a deterrent to people going for apple products as the laptop cannot be charged by any other means. PLease renew our faith in apple !!!

    Frayed at the power unit.

I was surprised to see the cord frayed at the power unit to where it started to smoke. This after only 3 years of use. Previous models lasted until... well, forever. The adapter was always used in the office or home, and was not abused in airports, coffee shops, etc. "Designed in California. Assembled in China" Maybe it should be designed in Germany and assembled in California.
