    There is hope!

    • Written by Martin L from Los Altos

After purchasing this product and experiencing the same frustration expressed in most reviews, I discovered that in the case of my camera at least... sony a7iii... all I had to do to make this product work was to go to the Setup4 menu fourth item down and turn USB power supply off. How I figured this out I don't know. Thank you to all of you out there who provided clues that a cell phone doesn't want to provide power to a power hungry camera.

    USELESS

    • Written by martin S from OLOMOUC

Does not work with flashdrives, okay. But it does not work even with powered GoPro6 saying that accessory requires too much power. This adapter is really waste of money. .

    Built like GARBAGE

    • Written by Benjamin Q from Gainesville

No one else makes one of these that works reliably so I have purchased this product at least three times and the life span is embarrassing. My most recent one only worked for a few months without beginning to cut out when moved. These should cost $3. Garbage.

    Worst apple product I’ve had

Won’t even load jpg or raw files from my camera SDHC card even though apple says it’s compatible. What a worthless piece of junk.

Works great for Chord Mojo and Dragonfly DACs

    • Written by Brian D from Sacramento

I was initially hesitant to buy this for DAC use due to the reviews that the “accessory not supported” message is thrown by current iOS releases.
I can state unequivocally that this lightning to Camera USB adapter works flawlessly on iOS 12.1.4
Don’t be misled by the complaints, they are either victims of a knock off adapter that wasn’t purchased from Apple
or they have dirty pins/contacts on their lighting port/plug.

I got taken by some amazon seller that falsely claimed the adapter was genuine (it was priced like it was
    genuine as well).
It worked fine on older versions of iOS but the “unsupported accessory” message
started appearing after an iOS update.
Such a scenario is hardly Apple’s fault, it was my own fault for putting myself in a position to get scammed.

    Buy this adapter with confidence.

    Doesn’t work

    • Written by Mike G from Old Colwyn

Bought to use as it shows... usb to iPad. But doesn’t work.. giving message... device needs to much power to work..or words to that effect.
Waste of time and money that was.
It might work for some... but directions should give more detail as to what might or might not work .

    iOS update broke this

    • Written by Matthew K from Cumming

The original Lightning to USB Camera Adapter worked fine with my camera for years until the iOS12 update. In fact, I bought the new Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter with the power plug and that doesn't work either so it isn't a power issue. Do not waste your $30 - $40 on either of these until Apple fixes the issue.

No longer works with iOS 12

    • Written by Valerie P from Chula Vista

Can't believe it, but they have an adapter that doesn't work with the latest OS. Now have no way to transfer photos from ANY camera to my iPad or iPhone. Thanks Apple! So glad I spent $30 on this.

Used to work with MIDI keys and mixer until iOS12

    • Written by Gusztav S from Budapest

My use case is connecting Garageband on iPad to Yamaha MG12XU mixer to record/playback keyboard performance.
Another use case is - when travelling - to connect a Swissonic Easykey 49 MIDI keyboard and play piano sounds I bought in Apple store.
I used the Lightning to USB camera adapter in both use cases and it worked fine until I updated both my iPad Pro and my iPhone 7 to iOS12 (or 12.1 - I don’t know exactly because I didn’t try using it between the two updates).
Unfortunately now none of them works with none of my adapters (I’ve got 2, both originals from Apple).

It’s not just annoying that I cannot use my music setup since weeks, but I was searching for the root of the problem for days.
If you don’t have multiple apple devices, multiple adapters and multiple connected devices that used to work, you cannot test out and therefore cannot be sure that the problem is with iOS12, and you can keep searching for the cause till the end of time.

Even more annoying is that the adapter actually works fine for about 1.5 minutes before it stops working and sends the error message “this accessory is not supported by this iPad” - how come, that it is supported for 90 seconds, then it becomes not supported any more?

While I am eagerly waiting for an iOS update that solves this problem, I would like to be notified by Apple in similar cases so that I don’t waste my time trying to identify the cause of the problem in my other gear (USB cable, Mixer, keyboard). I have seen that hundreds of users keep complaining about the AV adapter not working since iOS12 upgrade, but I haven’t seen a word from Apple on these topics.

I think it is lame customer experience and should be fixed asap.

    USED to work

    • Written by Mallory M

This used to work perfectly fine with my camera (Canon Rebel EOS t5i) but now it doesn’t. Ever since one of the recent updates on my iPhone 8, it doesn’t work directly from my camera to my phone. I’m pretty sure it has to do with a recent update (I forgot which one) because my cords and camera are fine. I’m disappointed and unimpressed.

Wow - they really have left the train at the station with this pos

    • Written by James S from Sammamish

Have you ever heard of a USB adapter that won't read a thumb drive? Really - a thumb drive - extra memory, no moving parts...but the ipad pro says it uses too much power. So what exactly is it good for - don't waste your money - and time. Store employee should have been aware of this CRITICAL short coming and informed me that it was a useless piece of garbage....

    requires USB hub to work

    • Written by Albert F from Timonium

Did not work with Nikon Coolpix S9300. “The attached accessory uses too much power” popped up on iPad. Have since read in other comments that a USB hub/multiplier required. Not enough that the adapter is overpriced @ $29, but you need to spend another $10 for the hub. Ridiculous.

    Only useful for cameras

    • Written by Harry A from Madison

The adapter will only transfer photos directly from a digital camera. If the photos have been copied to a PC and then copied to a chip, they can't be transferred to an Ipad. It took about 2 hours on the phone for Apple tech support to figure this out. However, one can upload photos from a PC to icloud.com which can then be accessed by the Ipad. No need to buy this adapter unless transferring from a camera.

"Your experiences and opinions will help others make decisions ......"

    • Written by Don C from Englewood

This Lightning To USB Adapter works perfectly - IF YOU USE IT PROPERLY. As Apple clearly states at the top of this Review page .... "Your experiences and opinions will help others make decisions before they make important purchases."

Short & Sweet - and To The Point.

As far as I know - ALL Apple adapters REQUIRE a small amount of Plug In Power or Bias Power which is supplied by the adapted device, BUT unfortunately iPhones and iPads (Lightning) draw power instead of distribute power; Therefore - adapters and devices that require power, i.e. USB Flash Drives, USB Hubs or USB-powered SD Card Readers WILL NOT WORK with this particular cable (Lightning).

BUT if your intention is to download audio, video and image files from a POWERED device like a laptop, a desktop computer, a DSLR camera or an Audio Interface to your iPhone or iPad - "it's all good.
