    Rendered useless

    • Written by Iain M from London

Now a lump of useless plastic after being bricked by iOS12.

    This is unacceptable Apple.

With growing competition, can you really afford to treat loyal users with such contempt?

Microsoft Surface beckons next upgrade cycle.

    Cordcutter here, minor issues

    • Written by Todd S from Flushing

I cut the cord with a certain cable company (rhymes with Bombast), and thought this was the cat's PJs to use with my (rhymes with horizon) unlimited plan.

It was — until it simply quit working in my iPhone 6 and my wife's iPhone 7.

I thought the dongle might be defective, and initiated a return/repair with Apple.

Further digging online (not via Apple) revealed a 12.1 issue/bug.

A great Apple employee confirmed it. (After four calls to other employees/departments.)

Updated to 12.1.3, and voila! It works again.

$50 dongle versus $150 for cable? Priceless.

    useless garbage

    • Written by Matthew M from Budaörs

After trying to use this "device" with an LG TV and a Sony Android TV, I have to admit that I am really shocked that Apple sells under its name this almost unusable very poor quality "product". I picked it up from an official Apple Store and it was advertised as an easy to use accessory. After a few minutes of use the screen very often freezes on both TVs in my home. I switched to a premium quality HDMI cable without any success. No luck with Ipad and Iphone. The frozen pic comes on both TVs no matter wath the source is. Switched HDMI ports many times. Restarted TVs and Ipad and Iphone, no luck. Something is clearly wrong. Waste of money. I am on the latest IOS. Not to mention the lack of full screen support in many apps (NHL.TV for example).
    Overpriced and useless.

    Waist of money

    • Written by Matthew L from Valley Stream

2 months of use and this device is completely useless. Either the device itself is not good or ios12 doesn't support it. Apple please update iOS to work with this converter or can I have a refund please. This is the first apple product I have that doesn't work. Sad

Zero stars - does not transmit the video signal and worse...

    • Written by Edmund C from South Salem

It works every now and then making me think there was something I could do. It took me a long time (and many hdmi cables) to realize it was the adapter that was faulty. I highly recommend avoiding the purchase of this item.

I bought this adapter last week after speaking with someone at tech support. He told me the adapter works with 12.1.3, and it does. I've used it for a week now with no issues. I hope they keep supporting it with future updates...

Still doesn’t work with latest 12.1.3 update

    • Written by Marc H from Dayton

Apple is losing it. As of 25th Jan 2019, the latest OS update still doesn’t fix the output issues despite purportedly being part of the solution in OS 12.1.3. I can output video from my iPad Pro 10.5” but no audio, and the video colors don’t render correctly so all I see is a pink hue over the images. Wished I had read the reviews before buying this in Dec 2018. It’s a white elephant waiting for Apple to get it’s act together.

    lightning to HDMI adapter

    • Written by Adam L from Terra Cotta

I (used) to use this for work, taking video of snowboarding students and athletes then displaying indoor on HDMI tv for video analysis, NO MORE since iOS 12.1.1 this device no longer works (got to use it 2 times after my $50 investment). Thanks for your proprietary BS once again, your updates wipe out my 2000+ contacts and now make my hardware devices no longer useful. I used to be a SHAREHOLDER in Apple Corp no more, tactics such as these to NOT support any products other than proprietary Apple hardware will lower you customer base and loyalty.

    Product is crap---ZERO STARS

    • Written by Bryce N from Waverly

My issues have nothing to do with an update, mine is strictly BAD quality of product. I've owned mine for about 1 month and all of a sudden while using it the screen went blank. Sound continued to work but no picture. I plugged, unplugged multiple times and still, only sound. Started to wiggle the HDMI cable around that was connected to the adapter and I started to get a very pix-elated, blurry picture. Wiggled the connection around for about 5-10 min and it continued to come on and off and be blurred so I gave up. For $50 you would think it would last longer than a month. Apple is really starting to go down hill. Their product quality has deteriorated rapidly. Worst part, I tried to take back to Best Buy, and they told me I had to take my receipt to an Apple Authorized store for the return....They don't take returns on defected Apple products.

Poorly made, Failing after less than 1 month of usage

    • Written by Paula D from Sullivan

I received this adapter as a Christmas gift and it worked great for a few weeks. Now it’s starting to act up. It intermittently loses connection and stops working. Sometimes unplugging it and plugging it back in gets it to work for awhile but if I pick up my phone it loses connection again. For what they charge for their products and accessories they should put out a quality product. After my disappointment with the iPhone X that I unfortunately have now and the cheaply made yet expensive adapter that has quit working properly after less than 1 month I think I will have to leave Apple products. They don’t seem concerned about customer satisfaction or making quality products anymore.

0 stars if I could! The adapter was working great and we were enjoying watching movies on the TV at our cabin. Then it just quit working last month. I guess that it's the same problem as everyone else - the software upgrade. Come on Apple! This is unacceptable!

Very diasappointing!!! I hope Apple will fix this issue. After the iOS 12.1 update our Lightening Adaptor quit working. It’s very aggravating to spend the money on an expensive device like this and do a software update that causes the device to be useless!!! Apple please fix this issue!

AVG Adapter working properly after ios12.1.2 update
I was able to speak w/a Very Helpful Apple Tech and after much trial and error before speaking to him.. I'd almost given up. Grateful I Did't..

    1) Plug USB Cable into TV
    2) Plug USB Cable Into AVG Adapter
    3) Plug AVG Adapter Into Iphone's lighting port
    4) Power On TV set proper input eg. If USB connected to Input 3 select Input 3 on TV settings
    5) Leave Iphone Connected to AVG/USB Do Not Disconnect, but Turn Iphone All The Way Off/ Completely Power Iphone Down
    6) leave Iphone Powered Off for Several Minutes.. No More Than 5 is needed
    7) Power Iphone Back On While Everything Is Still Connected
    8) When phone is powered back on It will most likely prompt You to enter pass-code If You have set up lock screen
    9) Go to a site such as Netflix/ Hulu/ Youtube and select a Video.....PLAY!
    10) This Should Resolve ios.12.1.2 Glitch and You are Now Good To Go!
Think Of It Like The Old PC Tactic of; Turning Your Tower All The Way Off.. Then All The Way Back On.. Like A Basic ReBoot ;)
    Good Luck ;))

After iOS 12 Apple Lightning AV HDMI adapter totally useless

    • Written by Norman L from Falmouth

As many others have noted here, this adapter no longer works under iOS12. I even bought a replacement, and it similarly fails. That will be returned for a refund .

The device was thoroughly tested by a competent user with iPhone 7/ iPad pro with currently latest iOS 12.1.2 and various HDMI devices and cables, definitely a driver/software issue with iOS12. Until iOS12 this was working fine with our HD projector and other HDMI devices - after iOS 12 not at all.

    Very disappointing.

I add my review here to increase the numbers of negative reviews and highly frustrated customers in the hope Apple will fix in next update.

The issue is further augmented by apple support answers on this topic limited to 'try a different cable' etc. Please direct these posts to the Apple development team for action and advise users who have reported the issue, if and when it is resolved.

There is, unfortunately, no lower review than one star. Until this official, Apple accessory was evidently deemed no longer supported by iOS (or perhaps not included in the iOS pre-release testing programme) the item was fair but imperfect image quality, and generally and over-priced item.
