    Can't run 1440p

    • Written by Benjamin N from Aarhus N

I tried to connect several different 1440p monitors simply didn't work. Turning the resolution down to 1080p works but is horrible. Got a new replacement still didn't work. Ended up getting an equivalent dongle from Satechi which just works no problems.

    Suddenly doesn't work anymore

    • Written by Lin C from 高雄市

I bought this adapter after I got my 2016 15' MacBook Pro. At the beginning it worked just fine. But after a few months when I had a really important presentation, the HDMI port on the adapter just didn't work anymore. When it was connect to the projector, the projector started to glitch and show nothing. It was really embarrassing at that moment that I needed to borrow another adapter from other to finish my presentation. Because I don't really use it that much, I'm pretty sure until that point I only use the adapter for probably less than twenty times. After that, the USB port on the adapter starts to fail too. My Mac often shows the message "disk not ejected properly" when I connect my thumb drive with the adapter. Apple is really overcharging this adapter, because it is not even stable to use.

    Don't Buy, Doesn't Work

    • Written by Lance C from San Diego

I bought this because I use a secondary monitor at work. Every single time I wake up my laptop in the morning to start working, this adapter does not recognize my secondary monitor that is plugged into it. I have to manually disconnect and reconnect the HDMI port from the adapter to get it to recognize my monitor. EPIC FAIL Apple. Let me save you some time, anguish, and money and tell you to go buy the Mokin 6 in 1 USB C to HDMI Adapter from Amazon instead. Here's the title of the product on Amazon if you're smarter than me: "USB C HDMI Adapter for MacBook Pro 2018/2017/2016, 6 in 1 USB-C to HDMI Output, Sd+Microsd Card Reader and 2-Ports USB 3.0 with USB-C Power Pass-Through Port (USB-C to 2USB+SD/TF+HDMI+PD)".

    Doesn't really support 4K

    • Written by Travis W from Beaufort

This device only supports 4K at 30Hz instead of the full 60 your 4K display probably supports. It's inexplicable that Apple would ship this thing at 30Hz, but here we are.

Don’t even think about buying this adapter.

    • Written by Clemens V from Gramatneusiedl

I bought this and it doesn’t work.
iPad pro11 and testet it with several different displays.
Don’t try your luck, save your money.

I am just angry i didn’t read these comments before. They tell the whole story.

I am quite amazed that apple dos not comment on this obvious product error. It is still recommended as compatible with iPad Pro 11.

I am using apple for a long time now, and in the past if they said it works, it worked.

    Lasted for 48 hours

    • Written by Aidan M from Palm Beach Gardens

I got the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter for my birthday, and I was so excited to use it to show my computer on my TV. I was having some trouble with other things on my computer, and when I finally got it to work, I plugged in the HDMI and it wouldn’t show up on the tv! It had shown up just minutes before, but now it simply didn’t work! My phone was also plugged into it, and it kept charging then not charging. I am so angry that it didn’t even work for 48 hours! I tried to find a solution, both online and by myself. I restarted my computer, phone, and turned off my TV. Nothing worked! I plugged everything back in, nothing! I searched online, no solution. I’m really angry at the poor, horrible quality of this product and wish I had never gotten it! I’m so angry right now!

    Do NOT Purchase

The adapter does not work consistently. It has to be plugged and unplugged multiple times over before it may decide to work for the day.

    Junk! DO NOT BUY!

    • Written by Louis U from Lakewood

Apple, please explain to all of us how you decided to make computer with no HDMI output and only USB-C ports and yet the only adapter you sell to project HDMI output is JUNK! This is the most upsetting thing ever. I understand wanting to be at the leader in technology and I don't mind paying extra for accessories, but when your adapters don't work. This is beyond upsetting. I wish I can give it 0 stars

    Utter waste of money.

    • Written by Dylan K from Boulder

I recently bought a 2017 15 inch MacBook Pro, and I also bought this accessory with it do push my display to a bigger monitor. The display output will flicker all day long no matter what you do I have tried different cables, different monitors, and even bought another one and see if it would work. Well, I guess I could say that I wasted 160 bucks on some adapters that dont even work. NOTE: The adapter WILL NOT supply power to the device if you are using any of the other ports at the same time. At times I consider to myself, why did i even buy a MacBook Pro for all this fuss?

Multi-port? No. Only ONE port works at a time.

    • Written by Jessie J from Holmdel

This works only to connect my hdmi cable. The other two ports are useless. If I plug ANYTHING into the USBC port, the monitor loses connection. The whole purpose of buying it was to get a multiport connector so I could charge my computer or back up at the same time I'm working with a larger monitor. It does NOT WORK. $69 for a useless device. I will be returning, but will have to find something that does work. If apple can't make a multi-port that works- does this mean I have to buy a non apple product to support my devices? The most ridiculous thing ever. And especially irritating given the macbook only has 2 ports- so a multi-port connector is critical if you ever want to work and charge at the same time.

does not charge the ipad pro

    • Written by Joanne J from Natick

I need to find another adapter that can allow for charging.

    worthless

    • Written by John R from Parkersburg

If I could give it zero stars, I would. The signal generated by the translator is not always strong enough to make it through the cable to the display device. I have had no better success using the genuine Apple device than generic translators. Both are equally useless. Trying to push a signal more than a few feet results in a failed connection that confuses the laptop's screen and the intended disp[lay. The laptop screen blinks between resolutions, and the target device goes into a hunt loop trying to connect. Like most Apple gear, this piece is grossly overpriced, a fact that is mutiplied by its inability to do the job it is designed to accomplish. I would be interested to try this device on a non-Apple laptop to see if the result is the same

Dell makes a better one half price

    • Written by David B from Fairfax

Clunky and poorly made, this dongle makes me wonder how this dongle benefits its users compared to using an older/slower mac. Even if included, with every mac, i'd be disappointed. The dongle doesn't fast charge iphone and only gives one USB A port meaning most users will need other dongles just to make their devices work. Extremely disappointed and will get the better made Dell Docking station for half the price

Massive loss in functionality within less than two years

    • Written by Mark P from Irvine

I decided to get a macbook pro a little over a year ago (my first ever apple product) and bought one of these adapters for convenience. It seemed it a bit over priced, but I figured since it was the Apple brand adapter it would be a quality and last a while. Within less than two years, the hdmi and standard usb ports have both stopped working. Based on other reviews, it doesn't seem like this is problem is unique to me either. I bought a cheap off-band replacement, since I basically have no faith in apple at this point between this failure and issues with the laptop itself (had a keyboard effect pop up within this time frame as well).

Can only say based on my experiences over the last year, I will likely never buy another apple product again. I planning to get a new laptop in about a year so I can at least say I squeezed out some value out of what I have now. Counting the days at this point...

    Unreliable garbage product

    • Written by Michael K from Brooklyn

You will pay a lot of money for this product and it will *probably* work for a little while. Don't count on it working for long. I've had a few of them. For two of them, the HDMI adapter stopped working after a couple months.

    DOES NOT WORK

    • Written by Vanessa E from loves park

I bought this product to display my computer to my second monitor for coding. The first one I had broke in under six months and since it was within the year warranty I took it to Apple and they gave me a refurbished one and that one broke in under two months. Totally a waste of money and I am very disappointed I spent 70 dollars plus tax on some garbage that I can't afford to replace.

Not worth $70 for its limited capabilities

    • Written by Kelsey L from Chandler

This adapter only supports USB standard data file transferring. It does not work for any display features (i.e. an external DVD player), USB 2.0, or USB 3.0.

I don't understand why Apple would change their ports to USB-C and not make adapters that wouldn't support all types of USBs since that is what it most popularly used. Or if that is "not possible" then would at least make sure the packaging clearly states which adapters support which kind of USBs so we could make a better informed purchase.

I will be returning this for a mutliport adapter I found online that supports different kinds of USBs.

Glad I found these reviews & that it's not just me. Looks like it doesn't work right for iPads. Hopefully I can get my money back.

    Dumpster Fire of an Adapter

    • Written by Sean H from Monrovia

I have never been more compelled to write a negative review of a product in my entire life. For $70–roughly triple of what a working adapter should cost–you will spend approximately 20 minute every day un-plugging and re-plugging in your HDMI cable and USB accessories on the off chance that this will be the time it will work.

Apple, you have done the advancement of USB-C a huge disservice with the release of this product. This product simply should not be sold anymore. Apple you need to go ahead and just market third-party options because is seems that your adapter engineering team simply can't do their jobs.
