Went through 4 replacements under warranty

    • Written by GLADE S from salt lake city

When this works, it’s amazing. The feel and operation are great. But mine have failed consistently at about 6 months each. Here’s hoping the 2018 version has addressed the problem.

This keyboard was fantastic and low maintaince (charging wise), but I have had it for almost two years and now my iPad comes it no longer supports it. I’ve restarted my iPad numerous times, read many articles about troubleshooting, and was sure to keep my iPad updated, but nothing has worked. I heavily rely on this keyboard for school and I don’t know what to do at this point because it simply to costly to purchase another that will might break again,

    Needs improvement

    • Written by Dylan F from Birmingham

I love the slimness and overall concept of this keyboard case. However its so thin that overtime the weight of the huge iPad warps the case and the keyboard is not flush with your table unless the back is propped up. Super annoying for a nearly 200 dollar keyboard.

    Second one and stopped working

    • Written by Melanie N from Greenacres

I bought this keyboard and within a week it stopped working. It made a sound like a key was being pressed in error. I took it back and they did not want to replace it telling me it might be my iPad. Eventually they replaced it and it worked for a couple of months and went bad again. I am afraid to buy another one of these keyboards so for my sons iPad we purchased a different type. It works but this Apple one when it works is much better. I hope Apple solves the problem.

Bought this and the pencil, now I need something else to carry both.

    • Written by Erich D from San Antonio

Let me be clear: I really do love the simplicity of the Smart Case .. the no fuss clip and use, the three phases of use. I don’t find the keyboard hard to use, but I agree that the keyboard is above average but not the best you could use. The thing is, I also bought an Apple Pencil.

I like using both, but after spending an additional $270, I find that I have to spend even more to solve the issue of using these as a portable device. I realize that this is the trademarked Apple style (the more you get, the more you need). I’d expect at least this much to work as one. I should count myself fortunate to even be able to use these marvels of the modern age.

I’m using the smart case to write this. As I am writing, I should have you know that the Apple Pencil is laying on that weird fold in my pants that happens when I site down on a couch. The Apple Pencil almost magnetized to the iPad. Almost. There is no space for it between the keyboard and the iPad, and it really seems like there should be. I have often inadvertently tapped the screen while typing, and it was only after I purchased this case that I discovered there are cases that allow more space between the keyboard and the iPad.

Don’t get me started on the separate additional case that Apple sells to keep the iPad and Apple Pencil together.

I loved it while it lasted.

    • Written by Hunter B from Pittsboro

It was a wonderful wonderful keyboard for about 18 months. Not sure if it's software updates or "decaying" hardware but now the "accessory not supported" notification pops up all the time. :(

Using it for two years now

    • Written by Michael R from Durham

I bought this keyboard as soon as it became available for the initial iPad Pro. I have worn the key labels off many of the keys, I have some issues with the responsiveness at times, and periodically (in latest builds of iOS) it get's completely ignored, and I have to restart the iPad (detaching and reattaching the keyboard doesn't help).

Positives: using the smart connector, no charging required, easy attach and detach, it can be used to clean your screen, and overtime more and more iPad apps are fully supporting keyboard short cuts.

Negative: Keyboard label wear, the screen cleaning overtime gets worse, and inconsistent responsiveness in later builds of iOS (11.2.x and beyond).

Nice to Use, but Significant Problems

    • Written by Amanda Blake F from Corpus Christi

First, I will say that the keyboard is light weight, convenient as a screen cover, and overall nice to type on. That being said, there are some features, as others have mentioned, that are seariously lacking. I can understand why the caps lock button does not have an indicator light— it likely would have added bulk to a keyboard thats greatest strength is its featherweight nature. That being said, I wish there was a setting that would put an icon at the top left of the screen when the caps lock is on. Because many things automatically capitalize, I waste more time than I care to admit trying to figure out if the caps lock is on or off.

Second, the letters on the keyboard fade extremely quickly. To be fair, I use my iPad Pro as a laptop for law school, so I type on it A LOT— in class, when I outline, etc. That being said, I have had it just over 6 months, and I can no longer see the “S” or the “D,” and the “C” and “A” are close behind. This has been very disappointing and probably easily avoidable on Apple’s end.

Finally, while I have not had as big of a problem as others on this end, it does seem like I am disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard more than should be necesssary. I am not sure if this is a problem with the apps I use (mostly Word and Chrome), or a problem with the keyboard. Either way, it is inconvenient that I have to disconnect and reconnect the keyboard anytime I have not used it for more than a few hours.

I absolutely love it. When it works.

    • Written by Shari B from Porter

I’ve been using Macs since the Classic. Yeah, that long.

For feel and ease, this is hands down one of my favorite keyboards, and all the bells and whistles are gorgeous and useful.

WHEN IT WORKS. This is a ten start product, that I am constantly having to reattach and then reattach because it won’t stay connected if I leave it for a bit, then comeback. Suddenly it decides that it’s not connected to the iPad.

Connectors are clean. There’s no real problem except me having to futz around and try sometimes more than a handful of times to get it to work.

Brand new iPad Pro. Brand new keyboard. No interference. I suspect it will only get worse with use.

So frustrating, because I LOVE THIS KEYBOARD. I dislike my 2016 iMac keyboard, feels flimsy. My 2017 MacBook Pro with bar feels good, but this keyboard has some good punch when you go down.

Feels like I’m typing on some substance, which I appreciate, and which has been missing more and more with the lighter products.

Feels great. Works inconsistently, and it works inconsistently with too much regularity.

One year warranty. Good to have.

    Great... when it connects properly

    • Written by Bobby D from Chandler

The only problem I have with this keyboard is that it doesn't always connect properly. In other words, I flip open the keyboard/cover and connect the magnetic connection (like you're supposed to), but when I begin typing... nothing. I try 2-3 more times... still nothing. I have to disconnect and then reconnect the iPad from the magnetic keyboard strip, and most of the time this does the trick. However, what a big pain in the rear-end. Sometimes, I'm in a hurry and need to type something fast, and that's when this little issue goes from being a minor glitch to a HUGE annoyance.

That said, when the keyboard is working, it's fantastic. I otherwise love it, but this issue with the keyboard not always connecting is pretty annoying for someone like me who does a lot of writing--sometimes at impromptu moments/places.

Keyboard unresponsive after wifi popup window

    • Written by Hyun K from Drexel Hill

Every time our hospital Wifi window pops up asking if I want to join the network the keyboard becomes completely unresponsive. To get the keyboard working I need to push the power button and then turn it back on. Unfortunately, that disconnects me from the wifi network as well. Apple, please address this functionality issue! Popups should not kill the keyboard!

It's great - when it works...

    • Written by Trevor B from Alexandria

I have never experience better typing in my life. Smooth, easy, and no battery needed. With that said, it comes with down falls. The connection constantly is interrupted. I have to remove the iPad and reconnect multiple times for the keyboard to sync properly with the iPad. I am thinking about returning and getting a new one - I think mine may be defective. I don't think it's suppose to do this all the time, everyday - not for the $$$ at least.

Great when works / Frustrating when does not

    • Written by Christopher M from Hong Kong

Great product design and typing experience - I had a first-gen 12.9 Pro and keyboard, and they were amazing for the full 1.5 years of use.

However, since upgrading to both iPad 12.9 Gen 2 and new keyboard - I’ve been cursed with constant connectivity issues like many of the other reviewers. Very inconsistent to get the initial connection to occur - and sometimes looses connection when initiating typing.

Apple Store support has been extremely responsive - and has replaced both my iPad Pro 2 and 2 different keyboards to attempt to fix the intermittent connectivity. However, in the end - they admitted that the issue is severe and systemic - and that they had no solution. They took some video to send to Apple QC - and told me that maybe there can be a SoftWear fix eventually.

All of the new keyboards they tried — either with my iPad or theirs — were very inconsistent to connect and stay connected. Ironically, they had an on-floor older keyboard which worked flawlessly - so perhaps it’s related to either product variation in manufacturing or there was a design revision which has resulted in the inconsistent behavior.

    Love and Hate....

    • Written by David G from Maryville

While the keyboard is working correctly, typing on it is great. Really like it...
However having a lot of connectivity issues with it. I did what the forums and apple help say
However it is still disconnecting from time to time. If it happened once a month, no problem. But this is each time I pick it up to use my iPad.
Oh, one more thing...I wish it was lit up....like each key lit up.
If it was lit and stayed connected this thing would be a slam dunk winner!!!

Some great features and some not poor ones. I returned it for a diff style

    • Written by Rhea Ollett AND B from Airdrie

The keyboard is absolutely great though the first keyboard had a space key that stuck regularly. 2nd replacement keyboard has worked great. I really liked how there was no way for dirt or liquid to get into or below the keys. I really don’t like how the iPad connects to the keyboard case though It is really insecure and my keyboard actually fell off the case. My screen cracked badly from that. If you only use the iPad and case on a table it might be okay but not good for using on your lap or for carrying it around. I returned it for a different style from a different manufacturer

Letters on keyboard are wearing away! After only a month!

    • Written by Mary Ann B from Madison

I had to return the first one of these after only a week, as the space bar wasn’t working well.

Now, after only a month, the letters “A” and “T” are starting to wear away!

This is extremely annoying!! Because it’s not like I’m typing all the time.

Keyboard great until 1 year - then stopped connecting

    • Written by Angela F from Huntington Beach

I loved the ease and double use of the keyboard (used as cover). However, it started to not to connect more and more before it stopped working. Took it to Apple store. Thank goodness I had AppleCare so it will be replaced. Funny thing is that no surrounding stores have them in stock...makes you wonder on a few levels.

    • Written by Mark Q from El Segundo

I really like this keyboard...it's a bit expensive ... but lately I noticed it's been making my iPAD beep like crazy (non-stop) and it's been displaying a message that says this device is not compatible with my iPAD Pro ! What's up with that ? It was working perfectly fine...

Please note that this is my 2nd keyboard for my iPAD pro...and this keyboard isn't cheap...

    Silicone back for Gen 2

    • Written by Kevin L from Alpharetta

Considering purchasing this product, but does not look like it covers the back of the iPad. My father has the iPad Pro 1st Generation case and he has the silicone case to cover the back as well. I really want to buy this Apple Keyboard but only if Apple can release a silicone back for the 2nd Gen iPad Pro like the 1st Gen one. I hope they pay attention to this post because I can't be the only one who wants to see this.
