    Piece of Junk

    • Written by Kenneth R from Manasquan

Stopped working after one year, searched Apple support and nothing works. Sure you can restart iPad and it may work for about 5 minutes, then you get the “This device not supported” message. Typing from screen right now. Very disappointing that Apple hasn’t come out with a fix, it’s not like a $29 power cord went bad, the thing is kind of pricey to get less than one year! C’mon Apple, your better than this and we deserve and expect better from you!

    Almost Skipped This Great Product!

    • Written by Llana G from Haiku

Due to some of the negative reviews, I almost skipped purchasing this great product! I love this keyboard. This is one of the best keyboards I’ve used in a lifetime of tech geek living. It works immediately and smoothly, feels good to use, and levels up my iPad Pro to competitive with my MacBook Pro in a lot of ways. I’m thrilled!

I’m not sure what happened to the people who were disappointed with this product. But honestly, even if the lifespan of this product isn’t ideal, I’d buy it again as long as it lasted at least a year each time. I guess we’ll see.

Until that time, thank you Apple. Excellent accessory!

    Needs improvement

    • Written by Kurt D from Highlands Ranch

Design and quality of the product are very good. Lightweight and the keys feel decent and are quiet when you type. Used as a cover, it works as designed. Used as a keyboard, it is hit and miss. The problems started when I wanted to use in keyboard or type mode. I would have to wiggle the smart connector area and the trough it sits in while in type mode to get it to work. If I pulled the cover off/away from the iPad and then placed directly into type mode, it works great - just don’t ever move it out of type position. As soon as I would close the cover and put into read mode and then want to type, I would have to go back to the wiggle thing again. This was very frustrating and I took it into my Apple Store. They saw the same thing. They replaced the keyboard and the iPad and it improved somewhat. After a week, I was back to the hit and miss working again. Back to the Apple Store and they wiped my iPad clean. Still no consistent connection and the Genius told me it was just the way it was for now and I would have to live with it until an iOS software release fixed the issue. I was not happy with that answer and returned the Apple Smart Keyboard to the Store and bought the Logitech Slim Combo and it connects first time and EVERY time when I put it into type position. I really, really wanted to like the Apple branded keyboard but it just wasn’t consistently connecting and working in type mode. I sincerely hope they fix whatever is the problem.

    Doesn't Last

    • Written by Cheryl M from Sioux Falls

I purchased this keyboard. It stopped working after 3 months. Returned it for a new one - no questions asked. That one lasted longer - but stopped working less than a year later.

    Horrible

    • Written by Tad A from Mount Joy

Never works anymore. Worked great for a year but as new iOS versions released it got worse and worse.

Now I just use it as a cover. I am typing this review on the screens keyboard, because the smart key board no longer works.

    Seldom Works

    • Written by Gregory B from Dallas

I have had two of these units. The first was replaced under warranty since it stops working. The second I am trying to use. There is a software issue with these keyboards that the smart connector does not recognize the keyboard propertly. The iPad will indicate “accessory not supported” and then nothing works. Reboot the iPad and sometimes it will fix the issue. Worst product Apple has ever made.

Too little (options)... for too much money (compared to Zagg or Logitech)

    • Written by John D from Palm Beach Gardens

No backlit keyboard - no Volume controls, no protection for the IPad - just to name a few.

In true apple fashion though - the off market “partners” keyboards do not charge the ipad properly while connected - after the most recent IOS upgrades of course.

    I hate it!

    Do not buy

    • Written by Gregory G from Gainesville

When the keyboard works it’s my fav. However, it rarely works! I’m typing this from my iPad screen. I’m on a business trip with no keyboard, not fun. I’m hoping Apple will refund my $$. The 1 and 2 star reviews overwhelm the 3-5 star reviews. I’m also willing to bet that the 5 star people become 1 star reviewers in a couple months when their keyboard stops working.

Great materials. Awkward assembly. Doesn’t connect well.

    • Written by Adam K from Woodbine

This is a great keyboard hardware-wise, however, it only connects 10 percent of the time since I brought it 1 month ago. I returned one and the second one also has issues connecting. I believe it is an iOS 11 issue. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, otherwise, I’ll go for a Bluetooth keyboard.

Assembly is a little awkward but very firm once complete.

    Unreliable: Will not connect

    • Written by Cynthia P from Moscow

It often will not work, meaning it isn’t detected or keeps losing connecting when I first try to use it. I have to keep bending it forward to get it to “sense” or connect and begin working. Then it has to be on a perfectly flat surface. So forget using it in your lap or in any less than ideal circumstances. I had high hopes, it being an Apple product specifically designed for the iPad Pro. And it is stylish and usually comfortable to actually type on. But it has other weird quirks. If you tilt it back too far, the keyboard slams against the screen. The keyboard feels roughly textured like ballistic nylon, rather than smooth like some keyboards. Sometimes you can’t see the text on the bottom while typing because it keeps scrolling off screen. Disappointing.

Poor Reliability from a rather expensive product

    • Written by Cheaa M from Roswell

Purchased this with my 12.9 inch iPad Pro in October 2015 and it's a very comfortable product a great keyboard to use with the iPad Pro. It has really turned my iPad into a practical replacement for my aging laptop (which I still use, but is mostly stationary).

However, a little after 2 years of using it and it no longer works. It doesn't connect or when it at least tries to, you get the "This Accessory is not supported by this device." message.

I feel like this is a kick in the teeth to have spent this much money for a product specifically designed for the iPad Pro and for it to stop working after only a couple of years use. I feel like there should be some sort of recall notice and some serious refinement in the technical design of this product.

This is a product I'd sadly not recommend.

I absolutely love it. When it works.

    • Written by Shari B from Porter

I’ve been using Macs since the Classic. Yeah, that long.

For feel and ease, this is hands down one of my favorite keyboards, and all the bells and whistles are gorgeous and useful.

WHEN IT WORKS. This is a ten start product, that I am constantly having to reattach and then reattach because it won’t stay connected if I leave it for a bit, then comeback. Suddenly it decides that it’s not connected to the iPad.

Connectors are clean. There’s no real problem except me having to futz around and try sometimes more than a handful of times to get it to work.

Brand new iPad Pro. Brand new keyboard. No interference. I suspect it will only get worse with use.

So frustrating, because I LOVE THIS KEYBOARD. I dislike my 2016 iMac keyboard, feels flimsy. My 2017 MacBook Pro with bar feels good, but this keyboard has some good punch when you go down.

Feels like I’m typing on some substance, which I appreciate, and which has been missing more and more with the lighter products.

Feels great. Works inconsistently, and it works inconsistently with too much regularity.

One year warranty. Good to have.

12.9 IPad Pro Smar Keyboard does not work after sleep mode

    • Written by Michael B from North Bondi

The keyboard manufacturing look & feel is second to note - what you would expect from apple. Unfortunately it does not work - after sleep mode it just does not work.. Returned it, got a new one, same issue again. If you do not want to perform hard reset 10 times a day than stay away from it (not sure If this is iOS issue (I’m on 11.2.5) but did tried it with another IPad - same story again and again.
The feel and how snug it is is absolutely perfect. But as it does not work get other keyboard - I got Logitech Slim Combo instead that us great, works 100%, is illuminated, has key shortcuts - but yes, the manufacturing could be better etc but at least works.

    Needs work

    • Written by Jeff S from Spokane

This keyboard is easily the best looking keyboard in my opinion. Plus it is very thin, light and very resistant to coffee. However, it does not like to stay connected to the iPad. I am currently running 11.2.2 and I still lose connection. Primarily happens when the I wake the iPad up after it goes to sleep. I have to connect and reconnect multiple times to get it to work again. Perhaps this can be fixed with an update.

It transforms the iPad Pro 12.9"

    • Written by John P from Sevierville

I recently purchase two of these and to be fair one had a issue connecting to the iPP, but Apple had no problem replacing it.

The new one works great and I would have given 5 stars but for the DOA one and no backlit feature. It really make the iPP that mush better by giving you 30% more space plus more standard typing mode that touching the screen.

    Stopped working

    • Written by Brian G from Granada Hills

Bought the Keyboard and it worked really well. The iPad really becomes a laptop replacement. However, the keyboard just stopped working. You will get an error message stating that the "accessory is not supported" (although it is an Apple product paired with an Apple product), and then it will just not work. A fair amount of topics regarding this in the communities section of Support - without any real solutions. Tried to chat with support - no help either. Will have to take it in to a store to have them look at - or I can mail it in for service for a low, low price of $110.

So, if you can get it to work, it's great. But for how long, that is the $64,000 question.

    Not up to Apple Standards

    • Written by John S from THOMPSON RIDGE

I am a real Apple believer. Three Mac book pros, 2 phones, 3 iPads. All great products that have all worked as advertised for a long time no problems. Replace a couple of batteries over time but to be expected.

The keyboard for the i pad pro 12.9 is another story. Started showing problems at a year - "appliance not recognized" started but it kept working as a keyboard and I did not understand the message. I waited too long after extended Apple care Warranty ended it would give the above message and the battery I con started flashing periodically until it became annoying. Key board still worked. Not the Apple quality I expect. Took the keyboard off no problem with the iPad.Looking for a good replacement.

Only connects 1 in 10 times - Frustrating

This is a brand new iPad Pro 12.9 and Majic Keyboard. I regret having spent money on the keyboard. Keep in mind that Apple is a 14 day return policy.
