Short lifespan for $100 a pop

    • Written by CHARLES G from Chicago

I have owned my iPad Pro for almost 3 years now and I just depleted my 4th apple pencil. It will no longer hold a charge and I find that I must buy a 5th. This one lasted 8 months. The first one I bought lasted 7 months. The 2nd was about 8.5 months. Same with the 3rd. I feel like, for the amount of money these things cost, they ought to last longer. I’m very angry I am about to drop another $100 to replace this thing!

    Broke after 6 months

    • Written by Wolfgang S from Aptos

While it was actually working, I enjoyed using it and the way it felt. I use the iPad + Pencil and Procreate for art and work.

It already broke on me by 6 months of use. Even when 100% charged, pairing over and over, and giving it a new tip that's securely on, it won't register on the screen when touched.

Keep charged or it will die

    • Written by Fiona D from Toronto

Apple won’t tell you this - if the battery runs down to dead and stays that way for a few weeks, the ipencil dies. You have to charge it regularly or you will not be able to charge it at all. I now own a $99 stick that I used a handful of times. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!

    Overpriced Junk

    • Written by David F from Mableton

Have barely used it and today tried to finally use it. Totally dead and won’t take a charge. Hey Apple, ever considered, oh I don’t know, an on off switch? That’s right folks, if you don’t use your $99 pencil for a while it completely drains itself to the point of no return. Have tried to charge it for two hours and followed all their (Apple) troubleshooting recommendations. Nope, nada, zip. Thing is dead. So over $100 for about 3 uses. Waste of money and time. Steve must be rolling in his grave. Hey Apple, want to know why your stock is tanking? People are catching on that you are riding on the coat tails of your once great products reputation. Today there are very good options. I suggest you get back to quality and items that last. After all, Apple products aren’t cheap and I normally don’t mind paying extra for quality. I do however mind being fleeced for overpriced junk. With more than 3k complaints for this and other issues it’s safe to say that the Apple Pencil is just that, junk.

    doesn't charge, too many parts

    • Written by Pauline S from Pleasantville

reading all these negative reviews I can almost hear Steve Jobs rolling in his grave.
This pen is truly next to useless. I thought I had done something wrong, but no, it's Apple corporate doing their designed obsolescence thing. Well played, you tossers. And like one of the reviewers did, this piece of plastic paperweight is only good for breaking in half and tossing in the nearest dust bin.
    It's slippery.
    It's loud.
    It's heavy.
It's got way too many bits to break and lose.
it rolls off your pad. Gravity people!
and it costs wayyyyy too much for a piece of equipment that breaks so easily and has no replaceable parts. Truly brilliant from a corporate standpoint.

Don't buy this nonsense. I'm switching back to wacom.

    Poor execution

    • Written by Brent G from Wildwood

We have been really disappointed with the Apple Pencil. We did not use it often enough and as a result the battery will no longer charge. Once the 2018 9.7 iPad released we tried to use it again and it's a paperweight. There is no way to change the battery, so this was just a waste of $99.

Very disappointing and an expensive waste of money!

    • Written by Beverly C from Cooksville

I purchased the pencil with an iPad a couple of years ago. My initial response was that it is unworthy of Apple’s reputation. It’s much too heavy to use for long, is really awkward to charge, the cap and adaptor are insanely easy to lose, & it’s lacking in features available in other devices of this type (such as a sense of virtual drag/friction — using it on the slippery iPad surface makes accuracy & control nearly impossible). I found over time that I primarily used it as a mere stylus since the control I was looking for in drawing or writing wasn’t there.

Last week it just stopped working. It charges & pairs, but doesn’t do anything when I try to use it on the iPad. It can’t be repaired & is out of warranty so I was told my only option is to pay another $100 for a new pencil of the same unfortunate design. It would be nice if Apple would make some improvements to this version of the pencil to benefit disappointed customers or if they had made an effort to make the new version of the pencil compatible with older iPads.

I’ve been an Apple fan for a lot of years, but they’ve been slipping in quality. My iPad, the Apple Pencil, & the Smart Keyboard I purchased together in 2016 have all had issues needing replacement or having to be sent back to Apple for fixes. For the price tags on Apple/Mac products, I expect better quality and longevity. Get it together Apple! I’m giving serious consideration to giving up on you!

    Most unpractical thing to own

    • Written by Aaron G from Boise

This pencil writes nice but is impossible to store. Also, charging adapter and cap are garbage. Left charger and adapter on a hotel nightstand, housekeeping (rightfully) took it for trash and threw out the charge cap. If not them, I would have lost it by the next day. Rushed into production, I’m sure. Not well thought out. Not very “Apple”.

    Apple pencil expensive and unreliable

    • Written by Darrel L from Richmond Hill

Bought Apple Pencil, used it a couple times, and left it stored in the box for random use when needed. The battery went dead and the pencil no longer works. Tried all options available on the net, even leaving it charged for a week and nothing worked. Took it to the Apple store, and told warranty has already past. No replacement can be given, and have to buy new one. My loss and Apple gain and I will just add it as one of my lemon purchase. Did not buy another Apple pencil, but decided to go for a much cheaper alternative.
I have always bought Apple products, without hesitation, now I will think second, and even third and check more reviews before purchase of any more Apple products.

Have never got it to work

    • Written by Michael C from London

Have had the Apple Pencil for just over a year and have never got it to work. It is now showing 3% charged but it will not charge. It connects to my iPad Pro for a second and disconnects. Have tried everything I can (all internet solutions etc) still fails to work. I have read on the internet that if you allow this item to discharge it damages the battery and renders the pencil useless. If this is correct I believe Apple should be ashamed.

I love Apple products but this item seem to be a “Lemon”

There Should Be A Product Recall

    • Written by Sharon M from Washington

My iPad Pro and Apple Pencil were purchased by my employer for me to use to collect medical data via an app to later be entered into a database. I received the duo last summer and did not use the pair as the database had not been completed. Our database was finally completed last week and this week would be the first week of data collection. Imagine my surprise when I unbox my pencil to prepare for my first patient, and the pencil not only would not hold a charge, it would not pair with the iPad, After reading these reviews, I'm not going to waste my time reaching out to Apple support. I ordered the Logitech slim keyboard case and hopefully, it will be a good workaround. I'm disappointed the product never worked and sorry my employer had to take the hit. Next time I will read customer reviews before assuming products are legit just because of the brand name Get it together Apple and make it right to the thousands of customers that are out of pocket because of your defective product!

Be careful before u buy apple pencil, Big battery issue

    • Written by Pseng Hsu L from Kota Samarahan

Bought 2 when it was first launched. One was use and another was kept as spare. After quite sometime, the spare apple pencil simple wont charge and hold charges anymore. This is a very serious production/battery issue, where there is no warranty from apple for replacement or repair of such defect. To me if apple is not gonna take responsibility on this issue, at least have the courtesy to warn us to keep the apple pencil always charge or risk losing it. It just not fair from apple that they are turning a blind eye to this issue.

Apple Pencil too heavy and too long. PUTS STRAIN ON MY UPPER ARM

    • Written by Laura C from Dublin

Cannot use this for more than a minute as it puts terrible stress on my arm. Why can’t it be shorter as the weight could be managed better then.
It charges well, nice and quick, but requires frequent charging.

The main issue is the terrible weight. And the fact that it rolls everywhere when you put it down. I have some sort of repetitive strain injury now I upper arm.
