    REALLY. Still no replacement tips!

    • Written by Danah C from Calgary

Yes this is the best stylus ever made, no doubt about it. But having no ability to replace a seven cents piece of plastic at the end of the stylus is more than just a little frustrating. I love my new iPad Pro, but for me without the pencil it is not one stitch more useful than my three-year-old iPad.

I bought the pencil, which wasn't easy as everyone will remember, but now having lost one tip, and gone through the other, I have $1400 worth of technology that is next to useless because I cannot buy a new tip, which would likely be seven cents worth of material, which I would still happily buy for Apples hugh markup... $10????... If replacement TIPS WERE ONLY AVAILABLE...

This so atypical for Apple.... it just makes me sick with frustration!

Please Apple..MARKET REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THIS OR ALLOW OTHERS TO DO IT!!! I have spent too much time and money on your products to be treated so poorly.

Keep charged or it will die

    • Written by Fiona D from Toronto

Apple won’t tell you this - if the battery runs down to dead and stays that way for a few weeks, the ipencil dies. You have to charge it regularly or you will not be able to charge it at all. I now own a $99 stick that I used a handful of times. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!

Short lifespan for $100 a pop

    • Written by CHARLES G from Chicago

I have owned my iPad Pro for almost 3 years now and I just depleted my 4th apple pencil. It will no longer hold a charge and I find that I must buy a 5th. This one lasted 8 months. The first one I bought lasted 7 months. The 2nd was about 8.5 months. Same with the 3rd. I feel like, for the amount of money these things cost, they ought to last longer. I’m very angry I am about to drop another $100 to replace this thing!

    Overpriced Junk

    • Written by David F from Mableton

Have barely used it and today tried to finally use it. Totally dead and won’t take a charge. Hey Apple, ever considered, oh I don’t know, an on off switch? That’s right folks, if you don’t use your $99 pencil for a while it completely drains itself to the point of no return. Have tried to charge it for two hours and followed all their (Apple) troubleshooting recommendations. Nope, nada, zip. Thing is dead. So over $100 for about 3 uses. Waste of money and time. Steve must be rolling in his grave. Hey Apple, want to know why your stock is tanking? People are catching on that you are riding on the coat tails of your once great products reputation. Today there are very good options. I suggest you get back to quality and items that last. After all, Apple products aren’t cheap and I normally don’t mind paying extra for quality. I do however mind being fleeced for overpriced junk. With more than 3k complaints for this and other issues it’s safe to say that the Apple Pencil is just that, junk.

Second Apple Pencil Both died in 6months. Apple should share this info.

    • Written by Karl J from ortonville

I am currently on my second Apple Pencil. First pencil died after 7 to 8 months of use. Writer Bought a second Apple Pencil. It completely died after approximately 6 to 7 months of use. Apple should advertise that the lifespan of their pencils are only 6 to 7 months this is unacceptable I would’ve never purchased product for $100 if I only knew I’d get to use it for six months called Apple they are On able to help me over the phone. Have to take three hours out of my day to drive to Apple store 45 minutes away for a pencil that does not work very poor planning very poor engineering who tested these pencils and what is the lifespan please share this information in the future with people before they make purchasing decisions this Apple Pencil was not made for use or long-term very cheap

Awful battery life. This has planned obsolescence written all over it.

    • Written by Stefaan C from Sint-Amandsberg

Only used it a few times, after a few months not having used it, won't charge anymore. Seems the battery is dead. No replacement possible. The only solution is to buy a new one (?????).

I'm not taking part in this planned obsolescence. No more Apple pencil. At least with the phones, batteries can get replaced.
But the pencil feels like a big middle finger slapped straight on your face with a big "Thank you for the money" from apple followed by "thanks for buying another one".

Thanks for the offer though. Really. Not.

Won't hold charge. Only used it 2 times

    • Written by kyle D from Virginia Beach

Ive never been this dissapointed in an apple product. I loved this device but am not much of an artist so I rarely used it. I probably used it twice in a year then I went to use it again and now it won't hold a charge. Apple would "replace" it for $80.....This makes me want to sell everything I own from them.

    WARNING BEFORE BUYING PENCIL

    • Written by Destiny H from Richmond

When I first received the pencil it worked just fine, amazing actually. The pencil is perfect for artist and writes smoothly. However, YOU MUST KEEP PENCIL CHARGED! If left unused for about more than a month, the Apple Pencil’s battery will die and if your warranty has passed you will be out of luck. For a $100 this pencil should last years but this is not the case. I now have a $100 stick that does nothing and MANY others have this problem. This Apple Pencil is a SCAM just to get your money and make you pay for something that doesn’t do what is promised.Once again if you decide to get this pencil remember to continuously keep pencil charged so battery does not die forever.

    Would not recommend buying

    • Written by Angelique A from Las Vegas

For $100 I would expect this pencil to last longer then 8 months. The pencil already gave out on me, will no longer connect and battery life is not 12 hours. I did go through all recommended trouble shoot option and chatted with multiple representatives and nothing worked. Not worth what they charge! Very disappointed in this Apple product

Apple Pencil Will not charge if left unused for extended period

    • Written by Chris V from SETAUKET

I purchased the apple pencil with my ipad pro back in 2016. I only used it a few times, and then it sat idle for a year or so. When I tried to use it again, it will not accept a charge, I have tried charging from the ipad, my iMac, and the wall charger, none will charge the device. I am amazed that a device I used less than 10 times is now dead because it will not take a charge. Poor design is putting it nicely. Avoid this product at all costs.

    Buyer BEWARE!

    • Written by Antonio A from Morris Plains

For starters, it never got battery life (8-12 hours) that Apple quotes. The inability to “turn off” the Pencil was another downside as it would constantly lose charge and be dead the next time I would attempt to use it. Turning off Bluetooth seemed to do the trick, but users shouldn’t have to manually turn off Bluetooth to keep their Pencils from slowly dying while not in use.

I never encountered serious battery issues until a month ago. Despite sitting untouched, I received a Pencil Low Battery warning on my iPad. I plugged in my Apple Pencil and after charging for 30 minutes it was barely able to hold a charge. I took it to the Apple store and they said they couldn’t do anything and offered to replace it, and the battery consequently, for $79.

I totally understand that batteries and components degrade over time, however, this bitter experience along with the countless other 1 Star reviews proves to me that this isn’t just a one off faulty battery issue. I just hope this review gives potential buyers enough warning that Apple has a serious battery issue on their hands. If the battery on these devices are irreplaceable and they give out after 2 years of ownership — I wouldn’t even say “2 years of use” because I definitely did not use and/or charge this device enough times to warrant serious battery degradation —then that seems like planned obsolescence to me.

If $79 for two years of use is fine for you, then by all means make this purchase as you will enjoy this product. If a 2 year lifetime and asking price seems steep, please reconsider. Don’t fall for the design and marketing for this product. If these reviews are anything to go by, it looks like you will be stuck with an overpriced plastic fake Pencil once it reaches the end of its battery life.

I fully expect more 1 star reviews to begin trickling out once others have had their Pencils for some time.

    Not worth it!

    • Written by William N from Wilmington

Got this (pencil) as a gift. Didn’t last 6 months, the battery won’t charge anymore & you have to keep up with little parts (cap, lightening charger). It is cool when it worked but that wasn’t long. For $100.00 I would expect more. Feeling ripped off & I wasn’t the one that bought it.

Gone through 2 pencils in a year

    • Written by Bianca S from Newnan

The first pencil I bought died within 6 months, got it replaced and the replacement has died as well. It's out of warranty now and I'm upset that I would have to pay full price to fix something that is Apple's defect. You're better off buying a non-apple stylus

The worst Apple product in living memory

    • Written by Alf S from Mentone

    1. No ability to turn it on or off. It's flat when you need it not to be.
    2. Cap covering lightning port comes off too easily. It's lost.
    3. Tip has come off and is lost. New ones ordered.
    4. No included means of holding the pencil when not in use. for instance a clip on the pencil.
    5. No convenient storage for extras like connector plug as part of the $140 or so price.

An astonishingly poorly executed device. Phooey.

Dont buy to use with iPad pro

    • Written by Anne C from ANTIGONISH

Unless you like going back and forth from pencil to finger skip this wonderful pencil which used to work beautifully
    Now it can no longer
    Pull the dock
    Split a screen
Or most importantly edit in pages
The latest updates turn it into a toy instead of a working tool
Ironically I can pull up the dock in a free third party app but not the Apple dock
Not being able to use the pencil is pages is horrible and renders it useless

    doesn't charge, too many parts

    • Written by Pauline S from Pleasantville

reading all these negative reviews I can almost hear Steve Jobs rolling in his grave.
This pen is truly next to useless. I thought I had done something wrong, but no, it's Apple corporate doing their designed obsolescence thing. Well played, you tossers. And like one of the reviewers did, this piece of plastic paperweight is only good for breaking in half and tossing in the nearest dust bin.
    It's slippery.
    It's loud.
    It's heavy.
It's got way too many bits to break and lose.
it rolls off your pad. Gravity people!
and it costs wayyyyy too much for a piece of equipment that breaks so easily and has no replaceable parts. Truly brilliant from a corporate standpoint.

Don't buy this nonsense. I'm switching back to wacom.

    Broke after 6 months

    • Written by Wolfgang S from Aptos

While it was actually working, I enjoyed using it and the way it felt. I use the iPad + Pencil and Procreate for art and work.

It already broke on me by 6 months of use. Even when 100% charged, pairing over and over, and giving it a new tip that's securely on, it won't register on the screen when touched.

I know I am not the only one

    • Written by Lenny K from Evanston

I am a huge apple fan, but this product is such a mess. Rarely leave a feedback like this, but people MUST know that this product has serious issues. If you scroll down this page, you would notice people complain about pairing issue. Well, I had it too and got a return today. The lifespan is really short, seriously. Honestly, Apple must do something about this one.

    Apple pencil expensive and unreliable

    • Written by Darrel L from Richmond Hill

Bought Apple Pencil, used it a couple times, and left it stored in the box for random use when needed. The battery went dead and the pencil no longer works. Tried all options available on the net, even leaving it charged for a week and nothing worked. Took it to the Apple store, and told warranty has already past. No replacement can be given, and have to buy new one. My loss and Apple gain and I will just add it as one of my lemon purchase. Did not buy another Apple pencil, but decided to go for a much cheaper alternative.
I have always bought Apple products, without hesitation, now I will think second, and even third and check more reviews before purchase of any more Apple products.
