    APPLE PENCIL stopped working just over a year

    This stylus is one of the best for iPAD pro. However, just over a year of purchase this PENCIL stopped working and will NOT pair with my iPAD Pro. I had NOT dropped the PENCIL or abused it. When I took this to an authorised APPLE customer care they tested it for 5 mins and mentioned that this PENCIL cannot be repaired and has to be replaced.

    This, to me, is unacceptable. I thought I paid for a premium product that will last for sometime but did NOT expect the product to stop working and that too just over a year (i.e. warranty period).

    The worst Apple product in living memory

    1. No ability to turn it on or off. It's flat when you need it not to be.
    2. Cap covering lightning port comes off too easily. It's lost.
    3. Tip has come off and is lost. New ones ordered.
    4. No included means of holding the pencil when not in use. for instance a clip on the pencil.
    5. No convenient storage for extras like connector plug as part of the $140 or so price.

    An astonishingly poorly executed device. Phooey.

    Not worth it

    I had such high hopes for the Pencil. If you want to leave it on your desk and never carry it around, you might be fine. But to carry it around is such a pain. Things that would improve the Apple Pencil experience:
    • a charge indicator, maybe 4 little lights or something
    • easier charging. This who cap removal and converter thing is too annoying
    • make the other end an eraser. Lots of other styli have that

    C'mon Apple! You guys make the best of the best, don't let me down again.

    Very disappointed

    I’ve been planing to get the IPad Pro - Apple Pencil system for awhile and finally purchased them in the last week. I set it up over the weekend and selected my apps. Then yesterday I was in meeting number 3 and it quit on me. Charge was good, fully paired, no other reasons why it should not be working except a defective device. I cannot recommend buying this device for every day use to go paperless.

    Apple Pencil worked great for a while. Then stopped pairing with my device. Could never get it to pair again. Would not recommend purchase. Other sketch pens I've used work better and more reliable.

    Cannot be charged anymore! Don't buy it!!

    Yes, it is a great product when it works. HOWEVER, my experience is just like many users here that the Pencil cannot be charged anymore after a period of no usage. Very disappointed by this Apple product!! I once thought that Apple products were great, but now I have changed my mind.

    No Charge - No Use

    I purchased an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil about a year and a half ago. I used the pencil for a couple of days three or four times during meetings. It worked great and I was pleased with the product. The pencil ended up sitting in my iPad case for about 6 months without being used. This week I removed the pencil to charge in preparation for an upcoming meeting and the device wouldn't hold a charge. I consulted Support, but attempts to pair or charge the pencil were unsuccessful. According to other customer posts, this has been a problem with the product. If the cost of the device was more affordable I would, begrudgingly, purchase another. But for $99 that's out of my price range. My expectation is that products do fail and a company cannot tell what damage may have been caused by the user, but if there are known issues or reoccurring problems, I could only hope a company would stand behind their product.

    Poorly Built - Apple is a company where "Dreams go to Die"

    I used this device less than twenty times... put it away, safe keeping for the moments I need it. Took it out and attempted to use it only to find that the battery is toast. Will not accept charges and is useless. Warranty lapsed after a year, though I've barely used the device.
    DO NOT BUY AN IPAD or PENCIL... Apple is no longer a company of quality. They're a company where "Dreams go to DIE"

    Only last about a year

    I've bought Apple Pencil last year and used it rarely. So I decided to leave it in the pencil box until it's time to start using it again. Just recently, for my business purpose, I took out the Apple Pencil and before I can start using it, it is no longer working. I even charges it twice over night. Took it to Apple Store and turned out the warranty end. Only one year warranty. Either I have to give up the Apple Pencil to them and pay $80 with 3 months warranty or buy a brand new one for $150 with one year warranty. Apple have a strong reputation of having high quality products that would last longer than Microsoft products. With this recently experiences, now I have to think twice and start looking into surface pro.

    Before the Pencil broke down on me, I hate when the cap of the Pencil is easy to get lost. If charging Pencil attached to iPad, there is a risk that you could accident hit the Pencil and break the lighting input.

    Other than that, it is hard to see anything positive on it.

    slippery, ipad pencil

    It's typical Apple:sleek, over designed (way past utility), slippery, easy to drop, easy to break, no charge level indicator (Apple wants to see if you can x-ray the battery with your eyes), no attachment mechanism to ipad (I use duct tape), perfectly cylindrical,so very easy to roll off the table with nothing built in to stop the roll, very awkward pairing situation, doesn't really charge from the ipad, very short battery life, almost to short to actually used a charged pen, again, no charge level indicator, and way too long to be used comfortably. I'm sure Jonathan Ives thought it looked great on the drawing board, but too bad he didn't do extensive field testing with it. Note; bought Windows Surface, am much, much happier!! Pen in six-sided, great tactile grip surface, holds a charge forever, feel like a real pen, and not like a giant, plastic Q-tip. Also, Surface is a real computer-runs full Photoshop, usb ports, feels much more substantial than flimsy (but,oh so sleek and pretty) ipad pro. Have given up on ipad, now use only Surface.

    Apple pencil

    I bought the I pad pro and the pencil three weeks ago
    I have since had the pencil replaced as the iPad stopped recognising it
    Took it back to apple and got a new pencil
    I have a Samsung 12.1 tablet and you don't have to charge their pencil
    Very disappointed customer
    Want to go back to Samsung

    Stopped working

    My apple pencil stopped working after a year. For an item that costs $100 there should be some coverage for the pencil other than the year warranty. It is absolutely ridiculous that I would have to purchase another pencil just for it to happen again and not have any way to protect it. I would not buy this product or recommend it to anyone else.

    Shaky at best

    I just left apple. The battery died after very little usage. The product was out of warranty so Apple offered to sell me one at $80.. I left the pencil on the counter in protest. I will not purchase again... it was cool while is lasted but not reliable...

    It worked great! Twice. After that, fully charged or not, it did not work at all. I literally ended up throwing it in the trash. It really hurt to throw $100 away.

    Worst Apple Product Ever ... After 5 Uses, Will Only Charge To 3 Percent!!!

    When I purchased my iPad Pro, I purchased the Apple Pencil as well. The purchase of the Apple Pencil was a very big mistake. After only 5 uses, the Apple Pencil would no longer charge above 3 percent. This is by far the worst product accessory that Apple has ever made.

    Frankly, in using the Apple Pencil and a $1.20 iPad Stylus purchased on Amazon with the ProCreate iPad software, I would give the edge to the $1.20 iPad Stylus. Plus the iPad Stylus is also a regular pen.

    Do Not Purchase The Apple Pencil, it is not worth $5.00, let alone the $100 price that Apple charges.

    Won't hold charge. Only used it 2 times

    Ive never been this dissapointed in an apple product. I loved this device but am not much of an artist so I rarely used it. I probably used it twice in a year then I went to use it again and now it won't hold a charge. Apple would "replace" it for $80.....This makes me want to sell everything I own from them.

    Good idea but very poor execution (maybe 2.0 will be the real deal?)

    I like the idea of idea of being able to take notes and do sketches on the iPad but this pen does not do it for me. It's too long which makes it unwieldy. That may have something to do with getting battery life. However, I would also like to have it a little bit thicker as I find it too thin (and no, I don't have big hands). I also really hate the slippery surface. I'm not looking for it to be textured for grip , but the plastic could have some tactility to it. This version just wants to slip through you fingers. Others have mentioned that there is no place to store this thing with the iPad as well as the lightning cable tip that's easy to lose. I could live with the (stupid) tips, but where do I put this thing when I'm not using it. Apple's forte is supposed to be design. They missed it on this one.

    Awful

    Had two of these pens in the last two weeks and they keep breaking. I keep them on my desk at work with my iPad and if I take it home it goes right back in the box. They both have just stopped working, one after a week and a half and this one on day two. Going to be returning the pen and not bothering with another one. Really disappointing for such an expensive item.
