Nonfunctional Glass Shatters When Remote is Dropped 6 Inches

My Siri Remote fell from the coffee table to the floor and the glass shattered. Wow. I had to buy a new one and a protector to go with it.

Has anyone at Apple ever explained why they are using glass in this product when it does nothing. The glass serves no functional purpose whatsoever.

Apple, design a remote that doesn't use glass! The Siri Remote is the only remote ever produced in the history of planet Earth that uses glass. It's insane. I get angry every time I think about this stupid design decision.

This Remote is Terrible - Makes me want to get rid of my Apple TV

This remote is awful. If you like to be frustrated and annoyed with your remote, than this is a winner. If you enjoy having your TV/Movie time ruined because the remote is so touchy and difficult to use, then buy this remote. For extra fun, sometimes the remote simply will not accept your input, and leaves you stuck, unable to select what you want, and instead leaves you desperately swiping at this stupid remote in an attempt to simply watch your show.

This remote greatly diminishes the usefulness and enjoyment of an apple TV. Every remote for home streaming services is superior to this remote... Apple, for the love of God, make a better remote, otherwise I think my remote and my apple TV are going to get replaced by a easier to use competitors product.

I want to smash this remote

I hate this remote so much when I can find it. Don't even sneeze around it, it'll change your streaming service and whatever show you're watching if you even breathe but god forbid you need to fast forward further than 10 seconds good luck figuring out how... I'd rather use my phone as the remote, whoever designed and beta tested this piece of you know what did us all a disservice. Horrible.

    Way too fragile

Was super excited to get a new Apple TV yesterday. Got home and unpacked the components. The remote fell from the box accidentally as I was unpacking the box and shattered. I had only opened the box a minute or two before this happened. Super frustrating! Now we have the options of buying a new one or using an app on our phone to control this brand new device as I hear there is no warranty for this insanely fragile remote control. Perhaps there should be a warning to future buyers to use caution when opening their new devices in the future. Love my apple products, but this was a big letdown.

    Not designed for humans

This is the biggest ergonomic failure I've ever experienced in my life. I've been using it for over a year with my Apple TV and I truly hate it. I get into remote-rage multiple times during a movie. The Apple TV itself is such a great device, but the remote stands in the way every single time I have to interact with it.
Other reviewers covered the major points and I agree with most of the criticism. But I'll add one more to the complaints:

Who in their right mind would make a remote that is almost symmetrical, and the user can't really tell just by touching whether the remote is in the right orientation. I prefer to watch movies in the dark, but oftentimes when I pick up the remote to pause the movie, I hit the TV button that is on the opposite corner, because the remote is in the wrong orientation.
The two flat sides are symmetrical. True, the button arrangement is a little asymmetrical, but I wouldn't be able to tell unless I carefully ran my fingers all around it while trying to remember how it's supposed to look like. That already fails the usability test.
Unfortunately, the remote is also touch sensitive, so you can't run your fingers all around it without bringing up some menus by accident.
    Fail and fail.
This remote was simply not designed for human users. Maybe Cupertino hipsters belong to a different species.
I would rather use a bulky old remote with 20 buttons on it, a 100 times over. I'm heading now to Amazon to search for an alternative.
    Shame, Apple.

    Ridiculous design

We bought an brand new Apple TV a week ago and the remote already shattered. Who is the idiot that decided to make a remote that appears to be plastic on the top half and yet can shatter just like glass. I am absolutely furious with this turn of events considering the fact that I own nearly every Apple device you can own. After years of being loyal to this company you would think they would replace a brand new remote that shattered due to faulty design, but unfortunately no, they would rather make more money by making you repurchase a remote that costs more than a third of the Apple TV itself. I am sincerely disappointed with this remote and the way Apple handles replacements of it.

    Disappointed

Difficult to use accurately, I was really excited to get my new Apple TV 4K, but the remote is terrible. I own two other AppleTVs and the old aluminum remote was bad, but it worked. The remote app is a better solution, but not as convenient as a working remote would have been. I love all of my other Apple products.

    Same story as others

Fragile (shattered falling off the couch to the floor) and poorly human factored. Expensive to replace.

    Apple TV remote

It's hard to understand that this hand held remote passed QA, and comfort use, along with functions. Poor design, slips from your hand, fast forward doesn't work like it should, chucks at a time to move forward.

Hate is too nice a word

I simply can not stand this remote. I hate it. It will not fast forward - it pulls up other tv options while trying to fast forward. It constantly turns the tv on and off by carrying it. Sometimes we wake up and tv is on in the living room when we turned off before bed. I’m ordering the old silver remote. Which also sucked but sucked less. I love the Apple TV itself - which is why we now have 2 Apple TV 4- but I wish we had bought something different

    Could be better

I have had the Gen4 on my living room tv, where it gets the most use, for about 2 years now without issues. Until now! My remote had a full charge on it and it just quit working. When I first bought it, it worked fantastic! I love the speak to text feature on it for doing searches and entering passwords, makes entering text WAY easier! I have earlier versions of the Apple TV on my other 2 tv's and the remotes for them are ok if I don't have to enter any passwords or search for anything. As far as shattering goes for the Siri remote, I have no idea what people are doing to their remotes for them to be shattering so easily. As I mentioned earlier, I have had mine for about 2 years and mine did not shatter until I actually chucked it down the hallway in my house, across tile floor, because I was so incredibly frustrated that it just quit working. It just started doing crazy things. When I tried to swipe to watch movies on iTunes, it would swipe the other way in the opposite direction. I would try to click on the iTunes Movies app and it wouldn't let me, it would actually swipe when I tried to click. I tried to get to my movies for like 10 minutes before I actually killed my remote. As I also mentioned, my remote was also fully charged, so there was no reason for it to act like this. I am also extremely disappointed that it costs so much to replace. I'm sorry, but this is NOT an iPhone, it is a tv remote. A replacement at that. It should NOT cost this much to replace, when I spent as much as I did when I originally bought the box. I understand that Apple products are expensive. I am a proud Apple customer, I will NEVER go back to Windows OS for a computer, or Android for a cell phone. I just think that Apple needs to come back to reality on the cost of their products. We all know what it costs to make these things and we all know they are over priced.

    Decent remote, very fragile

The Apple TV is the featured set in our living room; used for Youtube TV, kids shows, music, etc. So why is the remote, that I am supposed to use every day and is put out to be handled by kids, so fragile and easy to lose?

Here are 2 suggestions that I have; make the remote durable (glass shatters very easily), and add a "Find my Remote" button on your iPhone and some sort of noise coming out of the remote.

Overall it works well enough, but we have already shatters ours and it is extremely easy and frustrating to lose.

    RIDICULOUS

Easily chatters even at short heights. So now I need to buy a case with the replacement? I think it's ridiculous to make the price so high for a replacement due to poor design. Another thing, apple tv should have a sleep timer function.

    Horrible

Unspeakably bad remote as evidenced by the consistently terrible reviews. It's not just bad, it's generally unusable and is making me seriously consider a different system like a Roku box. Anything but this remote. Steve would never have let this hit the market. Shame on you Apple for even releasing this product.

    Awful

With all the advancements of Apple you would think they could come up with a better remote. First of all, it is so small it gets lost ALL THE TIME. It falls in the couch or gets carried off by a toddler. There is no finder or ping option if you can't find it. There is no backlight and I always pick it up upside down and accidently push the wrong button or scroll on the touch sensitive part. The top and bottom basically look the same unless you examine it first. I just hate the remote. I just had to buy a replacement because mine is lost and it's way over priced. I've never actually broken mine, but seems to be an issue with many other people. The list goes on. Please fix this design!

    Fragile and Terrible

TERRIBLE!!! Beautiful responsive remote but lock it up in the safe and never use. Any slight drop will shatter the glass completely. On average it will last about a week before you have to buy another terribly expensive one.

    Lost and Tossed and Shattered

I had been so careful with this remote. Design is flawed. It fell from my bed onto my carpet on its edge and shattered.
The cost is too high for a replacement. It is actually over a third of what the whole product cost. Stop gouging your loyal consumers.
