    SHATTERED!!!

    • Written by Kathy L from Houston

The remote itself has a beautiful sleek design. Weight is nice in hand and easy to use. My one and ONLY dislike about this ALMOST AWESOME remote is the fact that it shattered on the first drop within less than 2 hours of opening and setting up my APPLE 4K TV. from a less than 1 ft drop off my sofa. :( For the price, it would be nice to have some sort of warning, or have the sales associate at the VERY LEAST warn buyers that the remote is fragile and requires a case ESPECIALLY if you have PETS or CHILDREN. A $20 case beats having a purchase a $60 remote that is so FRAGILE.

Reasons why this remote bugs me & the 1 good thing about it

    • Written by Dri L from Atlanta

So Slick that flies out of your hands
So sensitive to touch that moves faster than your finger and causes trouble clicking what you want
So lightweight and black that we constantly lose it around the house
The minimal design is confusing that in the dark you never know if the remote is pointing the tv or you.

Huge PLUS and the only reason why I give 3 STARS instead of 2
My bedsheets are black and I accidentally washed the bedding with the remote 2 times
It survived 2 full washer cycles and that is awesome!

This Will Be the Third Remote

    • Written by Timothy F from Glendale

The voice recognition on this remote is a winner.

And, it's simple and easy to use ... although I do agree that doing advanced video motion is ... pretty much impossible. But, I don't do that.

However ... despite the engineering goodness in this unit, it is extraordinarily fragile. We keep ours only over a carpeted floor, a family rule. I broke the first one by dropping it on tile. It shattered into a thousand pieces. That one cost $80 to replace. That's half the price of the entire Apple TV unit.

A guest broke the second one. $60 being a better price, nonetheless between the two remotes we've spent 2/3 the price of the entire Apple TV just replacing this princess remote.

We tried a "case" ... but the flush button design causes any case to interfere with the pushbutton.

There must be a better way.

I give it three stars because the technology is quite good. Two more are waiting when the princess doesn't need 100 mattresses.

Breaks easily but works well overall

    • Written by Robert B from Nashville

As the other reviews have said it does break easily. My six year old has destroyed the original remote. Now I need to order another one.

    wish I could find it

    • Written by Deja O from Brooklyn

why doesn't this thing have bluetooth and play sound when I lose it because let's face it-everyone loses this thing because it's so darn small. I just moved and unpacked everything and cannot find the darn thing anywhere and have no idea where it is. That is my biggest complaint.

    Great While It Lasted

    • Written by bob K from milford

We have had this generation TV for about 18 months and just in the last few weeks the remote just stopped working. We noticed in the month or so prior to total failure, the careen message "remote connection lost" and "remote connected" appearing on and off with no activity on the remote itself (ie just sitting on the table). Then, after a month of this, the remote just stopped working even after charging. The remote was not dropped. It did not "shatter" as others have commented...it just failed. We have been using the iPhone capability for the last several weeks, which is actually nice but, still need to replace the remote for convenience. If it fails again in a year or so, I wont replace it and write it off as just a bad design and execution.

5 stars for functionality, 1 star for reliability.

    Breaks Easily

    • Written by Anthony H from Austin

Was watching TV last night and the remote dropped from my couch to the carpet appox. 1-2ft. It didn't shatter. However, the remote no longer works. Any button I press nothing happens. Hesitant to buy a new remote. Since from what I am reading this happens quite frequently and $60 is pretty expansive. The only people that buy the remotes are current owners that either had theirs break or lost theirs. Apple should lower the prices. Right now I'll just use the remote app on my phone.

I give it a 3 star because I do like the remote. Works flawlessly. -1 star for being brittle and small. -1 star for the price of a new one.

    Too Sensitive

    • Written by richard S from lake city

The remote is nice but too sensitive. I use it for directv now app to watch tv. You barely touch the sides or set the remote down and it changes the channel on you. Directv response time is very slow to buffer, so it is frustrating to have the channel change on you and then try to get back to the channel you were just watching.

It is very light and small.

Build quality is nice. I prefer it over all my other remotes (and I have 3 from sling tv, now this I got free from Directv now) because of elegance. I just deal with the sensitivity by trying not to touch the sides

Too small, too fragile, but has cool features

    • Written by catherine P from HOLYOKE

There is no need for this item to be so slick. It is hard to hold on to and hard to keep track of and after just a few weeks we have lost ours in our house somewhere, or our clever toddler has thrown it away. I am hesitant to buy a replacement because they are so expensive and there is like 0 chance we aren't going to break it right away or lose it again. Apple, make something that can exist in a home with kids for more than 5 minutes. It should be bigger, easier to hold onto and able to handle being dropped a couple of times.

As far as functioning, this remote is excellent at being able to navigate the complicated TV entertainment options and is very good with voice recognition. I love the simplicity of the user interface too, very intuitive.
