Good Remote, but Room for Improvement

    • Written by Evan P from Coon Valley

For me, I love the design and the fact that the batter lasts a really long time and is quick to charge. The trackpad is really nice to have. It's a lot easier and smoother than using the arrow buttons like on a Roku or Fire TV remote. There are only six buttons on the remote, so after a few days of using it regularly, it's not hard to get a feel for which button you're pressing while you're in the dark. The only improvements I could think of would be adding a backlight for those who still struggle, plus it would look cool in the dark. As for all of the negative reviews, they seem to have a similar theme: it either shattered or is hard to learn the controls. From my couple years of experience with this remote, I can say it has been dropped a few times and has never shattered. The shattering issue should not be entirely blamed on Apple's design; it's user error. Think of the remote as a new iPhone. You know it's made of glass. You know it may break. If you feel like you may get a bit reckless with it, then buy a case for it. It's that simple. As for the hard to learn part, it's not too hard to figure out. In the Apple TV quick start guide (which comes in the Apple TV box), it shows how to use the general functions of the remote. More "advanced" functionality tips are shown onscreen when its practical to do so. Again, I would just like to state that this is a good remote and I love its functionality. It IS easy to use and the trackpad makes navigation a breeze!

A voice of reason amongst all this hate

I have been using this remote for almost a year now. I've dropped it over 20 times onto my hardwood floors. I've spilled at least 2 beers into it. It still works for me.

It's a little sensitive at times, but nothing that's deal breaking.

    I love the simplicity.

    Great product - couple quirks....

    • Written by Dan S from Kalamazoo

Fits in hand great. Simplified controls work well except for fast forward and back. I press my thumb to the right or to the left and I get the circle with an arrow but I have to mess with thumb pressure for the fast forward or back to kick in. A little more certainty would be good. Haven't dropped it yet, but it is so small that I would love a way to clap or something for it to beep to let me know where it is.

    Decent buy

Overall, it's a decent product. It's really lightweight and feels good. I've never had amy problems with it not connecting/getting disconnected. I've drop it from roughly 3-4 ft. many times and it has yet to shatter (p.s. it has no case). If it wasn't so small and easy to lose, I would give it 5 stars (It's not 3 stars because they brought the price down from $79.00 to $59.00, so I gave it 1 more star).
