Worst and most expensive case ever!

    • Written by Austin L from Gilbert

I have had this case for 6 months now. It worked really well for the first month or two and after that it consistently disconnects while charging. I have never dropped my phone with the case on either. The silicone on the case WILL peel off just from taking out of your pocket constantly. Wireless charging is a feature with this case BUT it is a poor design (or flaw). The case and phone will say it is charging then you wake up in the morning and the case never charged and the phone is almost dead. And yes I did buy my wireless charger from the Apple store so it is a wireless charger recommended by Apple themselves. If I set my phone down on a table or any surface I get an error message that says "Unlock iPhone to use accessories". I haven't bothered to take my case into apple since they will probably tell me to "kick sand/rocks". I would never consider or recommend this case to anyone specially for the price. $129!!! that's insane, and yes I'm the idiot that bought it but hey; trial and error. I just hope someone will learn from my mistake. If you desperately need a battery case I would use Mophie. I have had them in the past and never had a problem with them (they are amazing).

    Worst Apple Accessory Ever!

Bought new in January. Has been replaced twice by Apple for failed connection. Apple Store reps say problem is widespread. Terrible design. Buy a different product.

    Replaced 4 times...

    • Written by Ryan N from Boca Raton

I've needed to get 4 case replacements because each stop working after a few weeks -- apple tested and confirmed it was the case not the phone. the case stops charging the phone but retains its charge.

Stopped holding a connection after 6 months

I liked my previous iPhone 8 Smart Battery Case, so I was excited to get a model for my XS when it debuted. Things were fine until I started losing connection. At first it was just a source of random buzzes, but it eventually culminated in my phone shutting down. Terrible waste of money.

Great purchase for power users and travelers/extroverts

    • Written by Steven R from Denver

I absolutely love the Smart Battery Case for my XS Max. For some reason I actually really like the way it looks, the design is so much nicer now that it is a uniformed back. I took the case camping with me and with both iPhone and SBC at 100%, it lasted me from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon before needing to plug back in, with some iPhone battery to spare.

It's a great product and might not be necessary for everyday use but is a very "peace of mind" type of purchase to know you have it for those occasions where you know you'll be wanting as much battery life as possible.

I think both colors would be great. I have the black case and wish I had went with the white case because it stands out a little more and looks more premium IMO. But I'm still happy with the black option.

Stops working in a few weeks

    • Written by Benjamin C from South Burlington

I’ve had three of these cases for my iPhone XS - each one has simply stopped working. It’s such a bummer. I had the Smart Case on my last iPhone and it lasted for quite sometime. i think I got a year life out of the two I had with my iPhone 8. Now - three cases since I got my XS in February.

Apple - what’s up with this?

I need this case as it enables me to always be working from my phone and works great in the cold as I manage some of the top professional snowboarders in the world - so i need my phone to work at the top of the halfpipe at X Games ... and this case is the savior... if it hasn’t decided to stop working. Honestly love the case.. Apple, please just get it to work longer than a month.

    • Written by Marcy A from Los Angeles

This battery was great when it worked, it just stopped charging suddenly. The silicon case is rad, im still using the case even though the battery doesn’t work because it doesn’t slip out of my hand or fall between the seats in the car.

    Love it so far!

    • Written by Clela M from Lacey

I originally bought this case in the Pink Sand color but in only a few days of use it was completely stained on the sides. I exchanged it out for the Black one and it definitely was the best decision! Love the functionality of the case and I no longer have to charge my phone every night now I can go two days. I would recommend the Black color over the Pink Sand or White. It's a great investment for your XS Max.

Fantastic product for my iPhone XS Max.

    • Written by John R from Copiague

I just bought this case yesterday 4/28/19 and I must say it is well worth the price for what it does. I was able to charge both case and phone at the same time which was a huge plus. I definitely recommend to anyone who looks to have an extra boost of battery life. :-)

    Expensive, questionable and not smart

    • Written by Marcio P from São Paulo

Regarding the quality of finish and indisputable, but the durability is questionable and leaves you wishing, because with 9 days of use it began to show cracks in the flexible part of the case. The battery works very well in the first few days of use but begins to vitiate as the usage increases. On average it lasted a day, but now it is only a few hours at full load and for a long time it takes an eternity to load. As for the problem of cracking with days of use Apple is not responsible and characterized as misuse and also lets you talk. The cover leaves the cell with triple the weight and the protection offered by it and questionable broken from the view of falls. For men it even goes, but for women it's a panic because it gets heavy, thick and most of the time too hot because there are two batteries being used. It also has the fact that Apple does not provide well detailed product specifications such as amperage and such

    Battery Life

    • Written by Richard S from Mercer Island

When I received my Smart Battery Case I charged my Battery Case and iPhone to 100%. I then set my iPhone to never sleep. From there I swiped my main screen to the right and observed the battery box which showed the charging level for my iPhone, Smart Battery Case, and my Apple Watch. Note: if you don’t see the battery box go to the bottom of the screen and hit edit and add the battery box to the screen. The battery case discharges first and reached 0% in 18 hours and 53 minutes. The phone battery reached 11% at 32 hours and 15 minutes I stoped and placed the case and iPhone on my wireless charger. If the battery case had an on/off switch i would have given it 5 stars.

    Not fit for market

    • Written by Travis A from Eugene

Was definitely excited to nab one of these when I upgraded, but burned through three in roughly a week. Each one took several hours to charge, and then wholly discharged within three to four hours regardless of device usage. Once discharged, there was a noticeable drain on the device's battery as well - the phone would go from 100% to 40% in a very short amount of time regardless of usage. When attached, the "Smart Battery" interfered with call quality as well as general connectivity not limited to wi-fi, data, or bluetooth. Case off, no problems to speak of.

As mentioned in previous reviews, your phone will always be charging with this case so "smart" is a misnomer. Both the case and phone become uncomfortably hot when paired, and this is likely because the case itself is not actively sensing charge level and moderating itself. Moreover, there's no means of turning it off so only time will tell if using the case did harm to the phone.

Third-party options are superior, and given the asking price there should have been more QA before this was brought to market.

Works great and feels good, but won’t work on Belkin Qi wireless charger

    • Written by Donna W from Freeport

This is great for keeping your phone charged all day. I love the heavy feel of the phone when it is in the case.
I like that the little tab on the left side of the phone is protected by the thickness of the case as I was forever accidentally hitting it and thus not getting calls.

This battery pack will NOT work with the Belkin Boost Up Special Edition Wireless Charging Pad. Both the case and the charging base are Qi wireless, but the descriptions of both do not list what devices they are compatible with, so I took a chance and bought the base. I could not get the case to charge on the base.

The case has a lightning connector inside the case and a lightning port at the bottom of the case to take a wired lightning charging cord.
To put your phone in the case, you must bend back the top of the case and slide your phone straight down so the phone will slide onto the inside lightening connector. When all the way down, then snap the top of the case around the top of the phone. To take the case off, bend the top of the case off the top of the phone and then pull the phone straight up. Do not pull the phone off at an angle or you will bend the connector.

I found that this battery case will sit on my iHome radio unit with no problem. So now I can keep my case on and charge both the phone and the case together at the same time. Of course you can leave the case on and hook it up to a lightning cable to do the same thing or take the case off and charge each separately.

To view what the battery percentage is of the phone and the case, a double battery indicator screen pops up when you first connect to a charging device cord or when you slide the iPhone into the case. To view this again later, you must separate the case from the phone and reconnect or just leave the case on and plug in a lightning cord. The screen is only on for a brief time.

Inside the case is a small pin light. If connected to a power source, if green, the pack is fully charged (or close to 100%). It also glows amber which means not fully charged. When not on a power source, it does not light up.

Cons: I wish it had a finger loop like my old case. But with the weight of this In my hand it feels really secure.
I would recommend this to anyone. It is a good unit.

The best battery case for the XR

    • Written by Wise Y from New York

I have used iPhone XR in a Apple Smart Battery (XR+ASB) case for about a month. The case arrived with no charge. I recommend that people charge the case first for 10 minutes before installing the iPhone because the case has a processor and it needs the battery to be partly charged to operate. Once the case is partly charged and the iPhone is inserted, the case will detect whether the iPhone needs to be charged and proceed to charge the iPhone first before it charges itself. By the way, the best way to preserve the iPhone battery is by topping up the iPhone battery instead of going through a full discharge cycle before charging. Battery life is related to the number of cycles they are charged and discharged. Once the XR+ASB is fully charged, Apple says that it will support 39 hours of talk time, 27 hours of video, and 22 hours of internet. In my experience, Internet use is closer to 25 hours if I use WiFi instead of cell to connect to the Internet. The ASB case eliminates all battery anxiety. You can use it as much as you want for 24 hours without running out of battery. A fully charged XR+ASB will go for 5 days with occasional phoning, texting, and emailing. So, if I forget my charger on 5-day trip overseas, I don’t buy a charger or external battery. While the ASB case adds weight and bulk to the XR, it protects the phone but I drop it less because the silicone surface provides friction that prevent it from slipping out of pockets and fingers. Finally, the ASB case encloses the battery in waterproof silicone and the case’s external lightning port is the only part exposed to water. The XR, XS, and XSM are water resistant to 50 meters. So, if I drop my XR+ASB case into water, I just remove and dry the iPhone and lightning ports to prevent corrosion.

Any phone without this is just silly.

    • Written by Kamarr E from Smyrna

My phone hasn’t been on the charger since 5am, and it’s still at 100% in the afternoon.

If the battery case runs out of power and you don’t like the size of it, Carry a slimmer case.

This works with the wireless charging pad.

I’d highly recommend for any iPhone operator. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Apple iPhone XS MAX Smart Case

    • Written by Daniel K from SOUTHAVEN

    Omg I am so in love with this case. The first time I grabbed it , it does slip out of your hand. I think it is because it's a MATTE RUBBER TYPE OF MATERIAL. This is the BEST CASE I have ever owned since the very first iPhone 3 came out. I recommend you to try it. All the other cases I bought I was almost DROPPING it and could not hold on to it. Thank you APPLE for making this extra battery case. the only issue I am having is when I place it on the BELKIN WIRELESS CHARGER BOOST UP with Qi it's still not charging the CASE. Also WIRELESS Charging in my New GMC TRUCK Charges the iPhone but not the SMART CASE. So I took the iPhone XS max out of the Smart case and I am now charging up the Smart Case Via Lightening Cable just to see if I first needed to do it that way. I will update my review once I find out what the deal is with that. iPhone was showing in notifications that SMART CASE had 0% battery life and iPhone XS MAX was at 100%. Hmmmmm. Still love the case little pricy at $159.00 but well worth it. The quality of the GRIP is in sane plus I get more time cause I watch a lot of movies on my iphone;

    Phenomenal addition to the phone

    • Written by Christopher R from Enfield

The phones should come with this! You get two full days worth of use. The bump in the back even makes the phone easier to handle. It appears to use the "smart charger" battery first, while also charging the main battery, and then uses the main battery. Please correct me where I'm wrong. Also, all you need is a Lightning cord. No messing around with USBs to charge separately like with so many other makes. Knocked one star down because the silicone case is a dust and dirt magnet. There should be a leather option. Does make the device slightly bulkier and heavier but worth the sacrifice, Otherwise, get this! I don't think you'll regret it.
