    Poor Quality

    • Written by Jeffrey R from Louisville

Although thin and convenient, it doesn’t stand the test of time. The outer material readily wrinkles with even light daily use. Would not recommend.

    Cheap and annoying

    • Written by Nicalaine B from Baker

Why would Apple sell such a cheaply-made product?
I really dislike that it has no backlit keys.
It’s hard to see special keys.
It does stay connected better than the old smart connection.
    Not worth the expense!

    Cover is peeling

    • Written by Ryan G from Bettendorf

I’ve had the 12.9 inch gen3 Keyboard Folio for a for 9 months, and 6 months ago the coating on the outside cover started to wrinkle. 2 weeks ago it started peeling. The inside of the folio has felt on one side and textured material on the keyboard that is not wearing or peeling. Apple should have put one of these coatings on the outside as well. The edges of the folio are sharp as some other reviews have mentioned.

Called support today and they will not replace the keyboard.
The rest of the keyboard is fine.

There are a few key design flaws in the smart folio keyboard. First off, the keyboard only has two angle place settings for the iPad instead of a full range of angles to choose from. This can get very frustrating for flexibility of use. Second, the keys do not light up, making it extremely difficult to type at night or in dark spaces which is very inconvenient for a student. Third, there is no cover for the keyboard keys if you want to fold the keyboard back and just use the iPad but keep the smart folio keyboard on; leaving the buttons flipped on the bottom and touching whatever surface. Pretty disappointed considering how much this keyboard costs. Apple could have done way better for their customers with this product.

    Not recommend it

    • Written by Alper U from Clifton

It is a shame for Apple that this case’s built quality and materials. First of all with that price you really expect something more durable and wont fall off after a month use. It literally totaled from bottom to top. Edges start to lift at a point that I can see the hard materials of the case. I am very ready and willing pay more on a Apple case. But with this quality I feel like robbed... Apple really needs to think and made better case for ipad pro 12.9 3rd generation. The color options are limited , there is no leather version of it... It is really bad. That should ve been fix... Wish there is a photo sharing option so that I can show you how bad my case become after a month use with nothing extreme just carying in backpack’s padded laptop part.

Doesn't work for long after warranty expires

    • Written by BRIAN C from SCOTTSDALE

I was disappointed when my Smart Keyboard Folio for my iPad Pro 12.9 stopped working. It's bad enough that it doesn't work however to use as a cover the battery continues to drain. There are no instructions on how to turn the keyboard off so using it simply as a cover is no good.
I always think that if it's made by Apple it should be good long after the warranty expires.

    Terrible waste of money

    • Written by Jessica G from Longmont

I love my iPad Pro, it's the best, and the pen is great too, I don't even have the newest one. But the keyboard, it's quite possibly the worst keyboard I've ever encountered. The thing does not work consistently at all. I thought maybe it was something I was doing like it was dirty or maybe there was a bug or who knows, but after weeks of struggling with the intermittent connections it has finally given up. It isn't old, it isn't abused. It's just worthless.

This is a piece of junk and ridiculously overpriced. For $200 it’s not backlit and it feels like cheap plastic. Some of the keys didn’t work on mine. Completely defeats the idea of using an iPad as a laptop. Very limited functionality. For an IPad that already cost about $1500, the unavailability of a decent keyboard is a disgrace.

    Quality Down The Drain

    • Written by Don V from Sonoma

I recently upgraded to the 3rd Gen iPad 12.9". What I used for it was the Logitech folio keyboard combination. The keyboard was very well made! This Apple version for the new iPad Pro is a big joke! The keys are not as responsive and the quality of the build is pretty questionable. Then priced at almost $200??? Who are you guys kidding?

I hope that Logitech comes out with their own version for new iPad. Otherwise, I'm looking into the new Brydge that's coming out soon!

    Huge step backwards

    • Written by Thomas G from Bloomington

I just upgraded from a first gen 12.3 to the 3rd gen. I had the Apple keyboard case for it. Yeah, the whole thing was bulky, but it was very practical and worked well. Even the price wasn't too much of a stretch for the quality.

But this new one is overpriced junk. There are a lot of reasons listed in these reviews that I won't go over again, but much of what is mentioned, I agree with.

My major complaints are that the material feels cheap, compared to the old one. The edges are sharp, like the just left any extra plastic that squeezed out from the mold on the case, without removing and smoothing it down. The edges of the iPad are not protected at all. If you drop this on a corner, that's pretty much the end of your iPad, because the iPad itself is structurally weaker than the first gen. Lastly, whoever designed the keyboard needs to be retrained. The first gen smartly folded away to protect it when it was not needed. This one stays exposed and can get gummed up pretty easily, transferring whatever it's sitting in directly on to the screen when closed up.

Returned mine. For $200, a keyboard cover and case should be nearly perfect. This is far from it.

I know Apple likes an attractive design, I do as well. But why they keep making beautiful products that can't do the job is beyond me.

Works fine but only attaches magnetically, should have read the fine print. Also, the molded edges are sharp enough to slice you fingers or hand if you run along the edge quickly when folded back completely. Very poor molding/finishing, expect better from Apple especially at $199.

    I wouldn’t recommend this

    • Written by Umahlih E from Brooklyn

I bought this keyboard to go with my new iPad. I was excited to get it. After putting my iPad on it I realized that the keys aren’t backlit nor is there a button to control the volume or brightness of the iPad. My old iPad Pro keyboard had all these features. Not to mention that the pencil sticks out once you close it. I thing that’s bad design. At 120 plus dollars for the new pen, it should be apart of the case as in the previous model. I’m not happy with this at all. I’ve looked into other keyboards but to no avail.

Not a keeper for iPad Pro

    • Written by Joyce P from Woodland Hills

Got mine last night and took one look at this product and sent it back in the morning without even trying it. After spending so much money for my 12.9 iPad Pro there was no way that I would trust this keyboard to hold my new 3rd generation iPad. Apple make a product that is a case and keyboard in one. If you do make this case + keyboard I will buy it, but this one is not a keeper.

    What is Apple thinking?

    • Written by FRANK C from SALISBURY

I had the 11” version of this cover and took it back. There is almost nothing good about it. First of all, it’s wildly overpriced for what it is and the choice of materials. Apple, who used to pride themselves on having beautiful hardware, designs this case that looks like its a cheap copy off a low grade auction site. No Apple branding hurts the visuals even more at the high price they charge for this. There are folks putting stickers all over these things trying to make it look more interesting than what it is. There are only two positions and the upright position is nearly unusable especially on the 11”. They haven’t figured out by now how to make multiple positions? Then there is the biggest issue of not having any side protection at all with this or the standard folio cover. I thought covers were mostly to protect the device and not to show off how clever you can be with magnets. Has anyone seen the drop tests of these on line and how they survive a drop? You are trusting everything to some magnets, which will not help a bit when dropped. Also while the Apple Pencil charging on the side of the iPad is good, it is another thing that offers no protection and is incredibly easy to knock off. That pencil should be in a slot built in to the case with an open spot for it to charge while there. I imagine Speck will have this long before Apple even thinks of it as their cases already have a slot for the pencil, but current models won’t charge yet. No backlit keys, which at this price point is not acceptable, especially when competitors seem to be able to do it for an even cheaper price.. Probably the most laughable thing about this case and what makes it look like it was designed by a six grader is the way the keyboard is exposed when the case is open. Flat out stupid design. Apple has always put focus on how their products feel in the hand and anyone trying to use this case open and having your hands rest on the open keyboard in back is just plain weird and feels terrible. This case makes me feel like it was rushed out against a timeline with no logo, no leather option, poor design with the open keyboard, no protection of the sides and a price which does not reflect the materials. I can only hope Apple puts one of their better design teams on this and comes up with an alternative to this that is in line with the new iPads in a premium leather edition, which this one is clearly not. I think this case is an embarrassment for Apple, and I will keep mine in a sleeve until either Apple or a third party company comes out with a properly designed case.

    Keyboard garbage

    • Written by Geoffrey J from Tempe

1st its not worth $200. 2. Its a design nightmare. 3. No Backlite on keyboard, wow really Apple. 4. The design team that has put this together all need to be fired. Its junk. Its pathetic that Apple didnt work ahead of time with Logitech or one of the others to design a real keyboard. If I could give it less than 1 star I would.
