Poor quality product and terrible customer service

    • Written by Erin L from Calgary

The charging cable is extremely flimsy and broke easily. When I contacted the company directly for warranty, they refused replacement of the cable as they said it was considered “accidental damage”. Furthermore, they do not sell replacement cables, and other cables are incompatible. I highly recommend saving your money and avoiding this product!

Charge cable in the wrong place!

    • Written by Jason B

I agree with other 1-star reviews: the charge cable prevents the lamp from sitting at 45° - whilst plugged in it can only shoot light straight up (unless you were to build a cradle for it...).
I have one sitting on the piano lighting an alcove, and plan to put one in a glassware cupboard with glass shelves - in these specific locations the straight up direction of the light is less of a problem, but it does seem to be very poor design.
Ditto another reviewer commenting on placing a sticker with very tenacious glue right in the middle of the lens - what were they thinking?
On the plus side, this lamp works seamlessly with the Hue budge with the other Hue bulbs in my home - as advertised.

I guess if you have $70 literally burning a hole in you pocket...

If you have always wanted a lamp in your home which can run out of battery then you're in luck! This is not a well thought out product; when charging it cannot stand at the 45º angle shown in the pictures (arguably it's best view) without balancing on the charge cable which then comes out towards the room - or you can make it a bowl of light (Slashgear describe it as a "milky bowl", every interior designer has been asking for one of those for years) - or point it at a wall, but it's about half the power needed to really make an impact. But it's OK because once charged you can move it / position it how you'd actually like, until it goes flat - then move it back to it's charging location.

    Ugh, the bloody glue!!!

    • Written by Piotr S from Singapore

Some imbecile at Philips decided it would be a good idea to place a sticker on the face of the lamp. I've been trying for the last 2 hours to remove the glue residue and it just won't go away. If you have OCD it's not a product for you. I can already see the dust sticking to this unremovable glue. I can't even describe the product, if someone ruins the whole experience with an issue like this nothing else matters. I was planning to get more Hue devices but this is my first and last.

Continued False Claims by Hue on "Media Syncing"

    • Written by Nitin G from Arlington

Hue makes claims about supporting a very attractive use case of having your lights sync with video you are watching. This is simply not possibly. There are 3rd party apps that attempt to do this. However, none work well. Look at the ratings in the app store.

Hue really should build an actual solution to sync the lights with video or stop making false claims.
