  • Overview

The 60 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Have had it a total of maybe, 2-3 weeks and if I want to charge my laptop the cable has to be put into a very specific position. Also the metal head that connects to your macbook gets very hot and can burn you. I will be requesting a replacement and would hope that apple would stop using cheap materials and over charging because of their brand.

      Broken and burns

I bought this charger probably about 2 or 3 months ago to replace my old one which was the last version the white T shaped one which worked fine without problem I bought this charger probably about 2 or 3 months ago to replace my old one which was the last version the white T shaped one which worked fine without problem until then and was about 3 years old. The past week or 2 it has slowly started to stop working properly going off when I move it the tinniest amount and then takes a while to get back working again, this is what happened to my old charger before it broke. Now today I felt the head of the charger and the temperature was ridiculous I physically cant hold it in my hand for longer than 4 seconds without being burned! Im worried that it may set on fire if it keeps getting worse. Im going to get in contact with apple to see if they can replace it or something for me. Iv noticed im not the only one as somebody else has posted the same thing as me.

There are clear scorch marks on the cable and all the wires where the cable meets the power pack are singed. In the end I had to buy a new cable (now £79). The first MagSafe charger I had (issued 2009) was made well and lasted several years, without the rubber casing of the cables splitting, and eventually it just quietly stopped working. In contrast, the rubber casing of the replacement I bought in 2014 split just outside of warranty. In the end I fixed it with electrical tape - literally the only reason it was still usable. As far as I can tell, the rubber of the newer chargers is thinner than what Apple was using before. Apple should fix it, or at least charge what they're worth, no more than £20.
